Product Details

Initiated in 1998 by Jedi Mind Tricks frontman Vinnie Paz as homage to the incredible rap crews of the 80s and early 90s, the Army of the Pharaohs has, from its outset, been an ever-evolving collective of celebrated emcees from the indie hip-hop scene. Founding members Vinnie Paz and Esoteric were featured on the crew s original 12-inch single, Five Perfect Exertions, in 1998 and remain with the crew today. With the release of their debut studio album The Torture Papers in 2006, the Pharaoh clique expanded to include accomplished solo emcees Apathy, Celph Titled, King Syze, Reef the Lost Cauze, and the Philly hip-hop duo and frequent Jedi Mind Tricks collaborators, Outerspace.

In its nearly two decades, AOTP has released three studio albums alongside countless solo albums and side projects from its lineup of emcees that have been some of the most critically-acclaimed and best-selling indie hip hop records of the past 20 years. "In Death Reborn" also features appearances by Blacastan, Zilla, Block McCloud, Demoz, Doap Nixon, King Magnetic & Lawrence Arnell.

Comment: This album is straight up horrible. Literally three tracks that I actually like. Not the same A.O.T.P. everyone knows and loves. Production on this album is seriously straight up WACK! How they can call this hip hop with that sound is beyond me. How you fools love this album is seriously f*cking mind boggling. I love A.O.T.P. that's why I pre-ordered this. But this is just an awful album and I am majorly upset.

Comment: You whack if you hating on AOTP, this is real rap. These guys are some of the most talented in all of hip hop and they mesh together great. Whenever I hear there's a new Vinnie Paz or AOTP album coming out I get pumped and this is no exception.

Comment: I don't understand how this album is any worse than their others. Every one they put out has about five real good tracks and the rest are decent. That goes for this album as well.

Comment: Just discovered Paz stole the exact album cover from metal band From Ashes to New self titled EP. Pretty pathetic considering how these guys criticize biters and fakers so intensely. See for yourself on iTunes or Google.

Comment: Got this because a friend recommended me this album. This has to be one of the worst albums I've ever listened to. I can't believe there are people older than 16 who voluntarily listen to a bunch of immature wiggers rapping about their pathetic violent fantasies. If this is "real" hip hop, I'll gladly listen to "fake" rap.

Comment: I like the DITC reference and agree. These dudes are the new millennium crates crew, or would be if they had the quality of producers DITC had which means bringing back Stoupe and 7L. AOTP has a wide range of talent that blends well, no question. Army of The Gods on Honkey Kong is a prime example. But all hats aside this album is shallow, lacks concept and direction. It sounds phoned which is sad because the verses were all recorded in Philly. I'm sorry boys this doesn't hold up to Torture Papers or Ritual. Stop riding.

Comment: This is the AOTP we are talking about, they are f*ckin sh*t up still after all these years, lot of dope hip hop groups and rappers out, yes; g rap, fel sweetenberg, mic handz, epidemic, planet asia and gcm, starvin b, sean price, ins, oc, el da sensei(gotta say), pharoahe monch, nas, roc, natural elements, etc but mannn this aotp, I always thought AOTP is like a super DITC, not to say DITC is not super but AOTP is f*ckin ill with it, you gotta say this is top tier, if u think its wack this is not your type of music or you should go and listen to some conscious preachy garbage, this is hard-edged, punch u in the mouth, grown man rap, if u dont like it dont even bother with rap u fags who knock this album, its premier sh*t. My only complaint I can file in is the bench dudes not showing up... King Mag, Des Devious, Zilla, Demoz, Doap Nixon! And some more gunners journalist? Anyways, they should get the bench dudes assisting on songs with power beats and keep it live. Portland trail blazers this season played only the starting 5 and a couple bench dudes, AOTP is doing the same damn thing, bring in the depth!

Comment: Calling out names? Ok. So you basically disagree with everything I say? Right. Punch lines don't make an album. Punch lines don't equal quality. Punch lines are one part of a much larger picture when you're putting out a SUPERGROUP. listen to Pazs first verse in the first track. It's so bad it's funny. His best verse is on God Particle it's just too bad he bit RA's flow there and throughout the album. This is basically a Canibus album. First track is aggressive and fresh. So is the second. Then the third and fourth and it's basically the same thing over and over and over again and again and again. I threw it in after I read your review HOPING I missed something. But it's just not there bro. It's below the bar. And as far as not knowing rappers in the game as long as aotp that are still fresh perhaps you should expand your catalog to the likes of Ghostface, Sean Price, Pharohe Monch, Evidence, Killah Preist, Hell Razah, Chino XL, Ill your research homie.

Comment: To MCHC, while I do agree the album wasn't as bangin' as I thought it would be, it's still pretty damn strong. And to say Celph fell short of the mark? How so? He had better punchlines than Ap & Eso (and both of them did exceptional), so I don't know what you expect. I think the problem with Celph is as a fan, you're so USED to hearing him kick amazing punchlines that since he kicks them so CONSISTENTLY you forget how ill they are because you're accustomed to it. Either that or you're just stuck on older stuff he did and in your head, there's nothing he can do to "top" the older stuff. I dunno but I didn't find any flaws in his shit. Vinnie had great verses, he never has good punchlines, that's not his thing... so to say he had the worst lines? Nah... Blacastan is great but to say he was the saving grace? Nah...his stuff is pretty boring overall and he doesn't say anything impressive, just lists off a bunch of visuals. That really impressed you like that? LOL ... Look, it is what it is... These guys been in the game over 15 years. I don't know of any other MC's I still listen to that are able to continue to deliver. Everyone else fell off. Not these guys.

Comment: Wow, I have to agree with Hater. After more and more listens this album is becoming a greater disappointment. I thought the opposite would be true but its just battle rhymes slopped together. There is nothing to it. Ap & Eso have some good lines. Celph is hands down my favorite emcee but his verses here fall short of the mark. And VINNIE? worst lines. His only success was making something worse than Carry on Tradition. The only saving grace was Blac. HE MURDERED EVRY TRACK HE WAS ON. Listen to 5 Perfect Exertions & War Ensemble than throw this in. You'll be nauseous. I really think tese emcees are THE BEST in the game right now but the last two army albums just have not delivered. I hope they dissolve the supergroup and stick to smaller ventures. Believe me I want and expect to see these cats to triumph but this aint how its gonna happen.

Comment: This album is fire but how is no one talking about this Lawrence Arnell dude being a cop???? I understand that some underground rappers will have to work a day job, but this dude is a cop. AOTP is especially anti-police I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this.

Comment: After listening to the album multiple times I have come to appriciate the direction they took production wise. Visual Camo, 7th Ghost, and Sumerians has to be the most unique beats im my opinion. God Particle is dope by the way. Hope you all are ready for the next album in November.

Comment: @ The Motherfuckin Man, @ Alon - Y'all must be listening on mp3 with an iPod not to hear the problem.. I've got this album on wax and on digital.. I have pretty high end gear - mixer/1200mk2's/speakers - IT SOUNDS F**KING WACK!! I have to adjust it myself to have it mixed properly. I REPEAT - awesome bars/production, great release! However, the MIXING/post-production IS HORRIBLE, it's like the "loudness wars" mixed by a crack head.

Comment: The beats were a little disappointing, I gotta admit. A lot of y'all are complaining about the mixing. It's not even bad! What do you mean? If anything, some tracks got so much bass and low end that it muffles the vocals a little. But it's no big deal. God Particle really is the nastiest beat on this album though...

Comment: It's a good album that's it, nothing monumental about it. good lines, good beats, good length. Im glad the stuck to more of the OG core members than in the past. only thing I can say negatively is that it lacked an character/identity/uniqueness. Some intros, instrumentals, those sorts of things. Yeah they can be filler and ppl may skip them but its tracks like Pac n the mac on CAPITAL PUNISHMENT, mad rapper on LIFE AFTER DEATH, and Just When You thought it was safe on 6 Feet Deep that give albums that fullness and personality that cats don't strive for these days. Like I said good stuff just surprised given how JMT used this tracks so well in their early days

Comment: There's like 30 rappers and producers combined on this album alone, veterans and long time artists with countless hours of studio time with amazing catalogs of solo efforts. How is it that NONE of these great, world famous rappers reacted on how bad the mixing and mastering work was before it went to print? This would be a 5 star easy but not like this.

Comment: I like the album. I don't know that I would call it "different" tho. It's pretty much what I expected which is a good thing. It's better than the Demigodz album and doesn't sound quite as phoned in. One thing I will agree with for sure is the sound. I thought that there was something wrong with the system in my car when I put this on. No matter what I adjusted it still sounded all fucked up. The first song sounds the worst. The mixing and mastering on this album is terrible. That is literally the only issue with this album. Otherwise I was pretty happy with it. I just can only listen to it on my ipod or it sounds like a mess.

Comment: This album is incredible. Not sure where I would rank it. At least their second best if not their best effort. Their lyrics are definitely the best on this compared to their other albums. Apathy, Celph Titled, and Vinnie Paz impressed me the most on this, along with Reef and Planetary. Beats seem more simple compared to "The Unholy Terror" but I think they are dope regardless. My top 5 tracks so far are: "Curse Of The Pharaohs", "Azrael", "Visual Camoflage", "Sumerians", and "Luxor Temple" but that can definitely change with more listens. Buy this album.

Comment: Great cruisin album, was looking forward to hearing some longer anthem tracks, but straight dope none the less. It's a different direction with production but we've been seeing that since Violence Begets Violence. Some favorites are Luxor Temple, God Particle, and The Demon's Blade. Gotta say, I'm not a fan of the C-Lance production on this album.

Comment: There isn't enough Vinnie Paz versus and they're not very long, the production is great by C-Lance. I would like more tracks but every track is over 4 minutes long so it's still a long cd, I would say it's worth the money and has pretty cool artwork that is overlayed to raise up on the CD jacket, good job by the Jedi Mind Tricks squad. The Vinnie Paz versus are good his skills are great, I just would have liked more Paz on the album.

Comment: Not sure if I am gonna check this yet. I have kinda been lukewarm on the AOTP idea since before the 1st full album when I found out Stoupe wasn't gonna be part of it. The first 3 were good though and worth checking cause of standout production by solid beatmakers like 7L, Celph, DC, Shuko, even Eso came through big time. This recent album just seems to be a clusterf*ck of producers I don't know and/or am very uninterested in. Just seems thrown together with no consistency. At the end of the day I will probably check because I support these guys and appreciate what they have been doing for so long, but would be nice to see some recognizable names in the beat category.

Comment: Album is dope, the tracks are very diverse and different. The lyrics are on point. Apathy had so had a differet flow for each track on this. Must buy.

Comment: Average album, first half of the album bangs then the beats fell off for me. Still salty that Demoz, Doap, Des D, and the Kings weren't on this album more, only one song each what the f*ck is that?

Comment: Great album, just a little experimental but overall enjoyed the content. Everyone had a nice flow Apathy was on top here and Celph sounds more gritty and raw my actual rating would be a 4.5.

Comment: Dope sh*t! I am listening to this right now, after a night of drinking, smoking and speed xD and AOTP are the motherfuckin underground kings. I love every album. In my opinion to many aggressive beats, but still a great album. Best track: Midnight Burial. Braaa, Braaa!!!

Comment: I give this 5 stars because I support AOTP as lyricists and they definitely came correct with the lyrics. Celph Titled shined as a standout as he usually does on each AOTP album but Vinnie and Apathy really have gotten much sharper since the last album. Not taking away from anyone else though, I love all these guys and I cop any and all of each of their solo efforts. Production is cool but I don't go into these albums for beats. BUT what is up with the muddy mixes and extreme compression on the mastering? This album sounds like shit if you play it on a quality system. This album is only good for iPod listening. If Enemy Soil reads this, please for the next album DO NOT use the same mixing or mastering guy. It has ruined what would be some otherwise great sounding dynamic beats. This shit was scrunched to all hell trying to make it sound "loud" but it just buried the vocals and mashed the snares down into the mix. Not good...

Comment: Standout tracks are ninkyo dantai, headless ritual, visual camouflage and Luxor temple.. Loud quantized beats aren't standout to me IMO. I take that back. Best tracks are Azreal, The Demons Blade, Visual Camouflage, Digital War and 7th Ghost.

Comment: The album is not bad, some of the beatz are dope, the others I didn't feel at first listen. The lyrics and flows are sick in every track. Reef seems to diss Jus Allah in Azrael and in the end of his verse in Midnight Burial.

Comment: My expectations have increased just before I read those comments about whacky beats. Here on UGHH, visitors usually love hardcore, non-progressive, "90's like" hip hop. I think this LP is going to be fine.

Comment: I just listened to it and all I gotta say is wtf to the beats, f*ck. Lyrics all on point. Stu Bangas, Vanderslice, Panik, Juan Muteniac all killed it. Man, they should've got beats from Mr. Green, Nero, Junior Makhno or Al Tarba. Midnight burial beat was wack, that sh*t's played out, curse of the Pharoahs was real dope just that bass was all over the place. Personally, I disliked more than half the beats and I'm a huge AOTP fan. BUT all lyrics on point. Just wack beats for the most part.

Comment: yh was defintely weakest beats of any AOTP solo or group effort, beats were really bad, expected some Mr. Green beats on this. Best track was Midnight Burial to me, lyrics were on point as usual, just beats made it hard to listen to.

Comment: Ouch! I personally HATE when people go on here complaining about the beats, but A guy wasn't kidding! These instrumentals go hard down like drinking a thick imperial stout on an empty stomach. Pretty much just edited out everything but the Celph vocals & some of Eso's & Ap's verses was good sh*t too. I doubt many of y'all gone like this one much, perhaps a little 2 experimental in the beats department.

Comment: I pre-ordered it and got the MP3 download early. I'm pretty disappointed but that's just me. Curse of the Pharaohs we all heard the bass sounds needlessly bad. I hated the symbals on Midnight Burial. Some of the vocals don't sound mixed properly, and some other particular sounds in the beats kill the vibes in terms of sound quality. The emcees all delivered, I wouldn't have liked a little more McCloud hooks and more Reef, but the rapping was the better part. Weakest production on an AOTP album by far, which sounds like there's room to tolerate considering their discography, but I wasn't into most of the beats. I guess each to their own though, I'll need to re-listen myself anyways.

Comment: Looking forward to this and the next A.O.T.P. project. To those who say Vinnie Paz is wack needs to listen to "End of Days" and "You Can Not Be Neutral On A Moving Train". Get enlightened people. The rest of the group however varies in my opinion. AP, Celph, Eso, O.S., sick shit.

So if all you are going to do is say negative shit about VINNIE and AOTP... more power to you but you can't deny that some of the hardest spitting emcees in the game right now... Salaam (Peace)

Comment: Like any other AOTP album, I am gonna edit every single track & just keep & mix up ALL of Celph's verses. It's all about Celph! I aint trying to listen to anyone else mimicking Big Pun's flow for like the 210,403,249 time in the past few yrs.
