Comment: I am a gigantic fan of Thom Yorke, have been for ages. I tend to dislike other fans for their pretentious attitude about his work. All I hear in his words are the lamentations and frustrations of the everyman of our generation. He knows he isn't truly special or better, he just has to selfishly broadcast to people what's on his mind. That's a pure artist, a pure human. Consumed by apathy and unable to hold on to what's good in life, just trying too hard to have fun and throwing away what's worthwhile. Regret and desperate hope unroll over strangely organic clackity clicks and whirring snaps and brilliantly simple melodies. He's a great songwriter, and I've always found his lyrics to be hauntingly truthful and genuine. He doesn't apologize for his humanity (except for when he knows it's wrong) or try to elevate himself above it. Good album for creative work, good album for study, good album for technical work, good album for closing your eyes and drifting away on transcendent sounds. This is Yorke in a nutshell yet again, and it's a pleasure and relief to listen to. Only gripe: I wish he would have recorded Ingenue on piano, I liked that version better. It felt a lot more intimate that way.
