Comment: Gotdamn, I can't tell you how happy I am that I got to review this joint. First time I popped in the much sweated Kanye mix "Can't Tell Me Nothing" (which served as the standard new album about to drop hype), I don't think I got past track 17, which happens to be the joint in review (“Us Placers") because I just kept hitting the ‘skip back' button on my car cd player. I wished I'd still had a tape deck so that I could have hollered, “Rewiiiiiiiiiinnnnnd" in my best Jamaican accent every time I did it. Regardless, everything about this joint is fresh. The chill opening piano loop (borrowed from Radiohead front man Thom Yorke's “The Eraser" album) perfectly sets the mood. Lupe absolutely devastates the mic with his butter flow and ‘pause and go' rhyme pattern on the first verse. Yorke's voice, impossibly eerie and beautiful at the same time, drops in for the hook before Kanye elegantly tells us a tale of quick fame come and gone. Yorke chimes in again before Pharrell's closing verse, which shows a lot more substance than his usual fare, eloquently addresses the Virginia Tech shooting. Honestly, this track is gorgeous. And I don't think I've ever described anything other than my mama that way before. Oh by the way, in case anyone cares, CRS stands for Chill Rebel Soldiers.

Summary: Groove Theory....
Comment: At the opening of this song I immediately imagined being at a hiphop spot after hours, slouching in a booth and watching neo-chic model chicks dancing to this. "Us Placers" commissions Lupe, Kanye, and Pharrell to exchange laid back bouncy flows that ride a piano riddled beat and drowsy singing, produced by the one and only Mr. concrete surfer "Lupe Fiasco". Each artist displays brainstorm style random lyrics that easily loose your attention but the beat makes up for it. This isnt a "bang it in ya car" kinda song but the huge speakers at a hiphop show definitely does it justice. And it's cool to see the chicks groove to it.
