Show Description
DJ Cyrus makes his UGHH.com debut with a show - showcasing tracks from a time where fat laces, kangols, and Adidas ran the hip hop scene, back when turntables had woodgrain and b-boys ran the dance floor. This show may bring a tear to the eyes of middle-aged hip hop heads and is essentially a MUST LISTEN!

Comment: One Love Fam! I'm back in these grimey streets of Bed Stuy, ridin the Iron Horses from here to Harlem and searchin out the old school artists to get down with B-Boy Classics. I'm mad disapponted with the Old School DJs on the radio (I ain't sayin no names just yet). NYC be warned, real Hip Hop is about to take over once again. Big ups to Brooklyn for keepin it real. Everytime I walk by the Projects I get hyped. Big ups to all of you who support real Hip Hop. Undergoundhiphop.com is that website that brings you the rawest Hip Hop online. Stay tuned, and remember that Real Hip Hop never dies.

In my opinion, we have been insulated from this opulent hiphop history of ours to bullshit!I'm elated to know someone out there REALLY cares to preserved what we know of HIP-HOP. Take a bow DJ Cyrus, you have surely are a diamond in this land(hiphop) of fuckup and bullshit music. Thank you.

Comment: @Savage.Swagger: I ain't a West Coast cat, I'm worldwide. I ain't a sports fan either. Suspect? It ain't where your from, its where your at (mentally). Besides, I haven't lived on the West Coast for about 2 decades. My mind is not confined to any portion of the earth, that's reptilian (territorial)thinking. Do the knowledge. PS, I know your Boston and all, but don't hate on the Yankees. Remember: Hip Hop started in the BRONX:-)

Comment: @Stamp: True Dat, that's why I credit the World's Famous Supreme Team rather than Malcolm McLaren. I if 'Duck Rock' was Malcolm McLaren's proposed name for Hip Hop(?) Anyways, the Madam Butterfly thing just threw me off totally. Imagine purchasing that (Back in the Day) thinking that you were getting a hot new Hip Hop single:-)
Name: stamp amatic (Posted: 5/13/2007 4:29:00 PM)
Comment: yeah, the story behind Duck Rock is quite interesting. Af Bam called him a "Culture Vulture"...i mean, first the Pistols and then doing the hiphop thing...i get what Bam was sayin.

Comment: @BJ: If it takes you back to those tapes from up north, then you have some treats coming your way soon. Thanks for your comment. @Stamp: I used to roam the streets all day pumpin that World's Famous Supreme Team EP. It's my favorite! Check for an LP called Duck Rock by World's Famous, they have clips on it from 105.9 WHBI (Live). Remember 'Rockit in the Pocket?' @DJ Konsept: PA deserves credit as well. We used to rock a joint at the house parties called 'It ain't New York (Cause Philly's Steppin In). Then came PSK. We went crazy when we heard 'Gucci Time'. It was that 909 with the heavy reverb (along with the 808) that made us put down the boom box, and install 15" Subs in the trunks of our rides. @Kenneth Ononaiwu: Thanx for your comment, there's more where that came from so stay tuned! @DJ On&On: Yea, I remember when DJs would go at each others throats. We would get palpitations from listening to that! The pressure forced us to stay on point. MCs wrote lyrics, and DJs selected cuts, mixing out sentences over beats. Man we gotta bring that back!

DJ Cyrus defines old school. Born in California in 1969 he grew up in the north side of Pasadena. In 1983, before some of today’s hip hop fans were even born, Cyrus began experimenting with cassette decks using the pause button technique, attempting to make mega mixes and emulate the sound he heard on boom boxes around his way. In 1985, Cyrus left California for the midwest (Minneapolis, MN to be exact) and began using turntables for the first time. Under the name L-Rock, he began trading cassettes with other B-Boys and accumulated a stockpile of underground hip hop music from the 80s that would surely fetch thousands of dollars in today’s market. In 1987, Cyrus landed in the east coast scene of Washington, D.C. using the alias Madskills. He began mixing live cassettes with MCs rapping over break beats and traded New York mixed tapes for V103 mixes with a DJ crew called the Numarks. Washington D.C. also introduced Cyrus to Go Go. After leaving DC, Cyrus began moving all around North America picking up tricks, equipment, techniques, musical styles, and observing hip hop in it’s rawest form in cities and corners in Chicago, Jamaica Queens, Fulton Ave, Flatbush, Bed-Stuy, Haiti, the Domincan Republic, Boston, and finally Virginia (where he calls home today). When asked where he got the inspiration for this show, Cyrus had this to say: “I became discouraged with mixed CDs that weren’t ‘mixed’ anymore, I decided to revive the original Hip Hop style of Dee-Jaying and set it on these all talk and no show DJs who achieve fame from lip service. Hip Hop is not dead, we just dropped the ball. Hip Hop is Ghetto Art. Strip Hop is fast money and is not concerned with the production of classic material. Underground Hip Hop is real Hip Hop, and real Hip Hop by nature cannot be suppressed. It is an expression of the human soul which has existed with us throughout the ages. Undergroundhiphop.com is the place where you can engage in Hip Hop in its raw and original form! B-Boy Classics & Battle Mixes is designed specifically for this purpose.” This show is truly a gem, and we encourage everyone to listen to it at least once. You will be hooked. DJ Cyrus is educated from the street level of Hip Hop emerging from the FIRST official generation of Hip Hop Culture.
