    Summary

On Machines That Make Civilizations Fun, Bigg Jus assaults the growing ugliness and inequality of society with a fury and intelligence that are unparalleled in these bleak times of perpetual war and economic fatigue. It makes sense, perhaps, that those coming of age in the diminished hope of the years post-9/11 have gravitated towards the escapist choices of the new generation: beachy chillwave and materialistic rap. Bigg Jus has a longer memory, though. His first project, Company Flow, stood at the top of underground hip-hop during an era when it was actually about something, and he's still haunted by the events that leveled his home town a decade ago. He doesn't see the point in rapping about greed or girls, and Machines That Make Civilizations is for those who have been paying attention during the decline and who are hungry for music that aggressively addresses the problems that are right in front of our faces. As cities across America and the world begin to awaken, Bigg Jus offers a soundtrack that speaks truth to power with a profundity that is worthy of the moment.

Comment: @ a_ronious (UGHH Staff, are you kidding us with that comment? Fake fans? We own EVERYTHING this dood had & bumped the F out of it and went to ALL his shows etc...The beats ain't there Papa Smurf. NOONE everrrr complained about the 80s-early 90s instrumentals with abstract producers as Prince Paul,Terminator X,Dj Muggs,etc...The sh*t was just ON POINT! So sue our african-descendant azzez for not digging the beats! He got grade A lyrics & flow no doubt, but aint nuthin wrong with some remixing. You wasn't dapping up with DJ Red Alert & Scott LaRock, dropping singles when Rock Steady was breaking in Manhattan for quick loot like many of us was like true vets to this culture of ours, so whutever with your opinion. Done Deal.

Comment: I have the NMS, Black Mamba and Poor Peoples day and frankly they are all out of rotation long ago. I love Juss as a lyricist but his stuff is too harder listen. Juss ask El-p for some production!! These beats sound like bedroom beats on fruity loops or some shit!! Sorry Juss

Comment: Okay so Jus loses a star fro sound quality. It is recorded very heavily based unles the store I go to released the lo-fi version. If so, I am angered because this album is RIDICULOUS. At first I inquired of myself WTF??? THEN I adjusted my EQ and heard what was intended to be heard. Jus is KILLIN' em. It is't his illest work but it damn sure is enjoyable... LISTEN to it. I will admit I was shredding it before I heard it "do" anything. I was pissed about the sound quality NOT the beatwork. Very heavy industrial laden tracks, but that appears to be what Jus needs. The beats are in your face because his lyrics are. One needs to be as dark as the other to keep balance. These tracks are dark so LISTEN. you don't need convincing. I gave a 2nd spin to re-intro & a 3rd more successfully, NOT because it had to grow on me but because I couldn't hear it... EQ adjusted... Listen. It will not sound like anything you have ever heard once your fingers make the necessary journey across the board. Listen.

Comment: about five full listens through right now and the night is still young... another jus MASTERPIECE. I ignored almost all info about the release so I could truly sink into it on release day, didn't even know Jus ended up producing the whole thing til now... which was a truly ILL surprise. 'Machines' is way closer to Black Mamba Serums x NMS territory than Poor People's Day in sound, which I wasn't at all expecting but am happier than a pig in shit about. this is an incredible work of art- new uncharted territory, challenging, multi-faceted, charged with more ridiculously genius lyrics that will keep unfolding to the interested listener for many many years to come and over next-level other-dimensionally slammin soundscapes. if you want jus to rip it over some nice clean beats, or whatever beats you think are 'hot right now' you are missing the point... I will always remember the effect The Black Mamba Serums Vol. 1 had on me; it blew my fucking mind, challenging and expanding all of my preconceived notions of what hip hop and art could be, inspiring me to become a visual artist the impact was so heavy. this album feels like its on that type of level, but on its different steez. MUSH RECORDS PLEEEAASSEE DROP THIS ON VINYL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment: I can only appreciate your wisdom concerning your apparent love for real HipHop. Remember when this is what it was about??? These beats as w/ ANY Justoleum produces I am QUITE positive and will bet my balls that they are DOPE. The Fr8s... King Spitter are two of the hottest beats and lyrical presentations I have ever heard out loud and almost crashed my car when I did. TWICE!!! Man listen. If you want bubblegum then move to the mainstream they have all flavors but even the biggest bubble you can "blow" (lol... anyway...) still pops when it gets too big. All of you bitches' imaginary legends will go pop (literally and figuratively) but since they already have now is the much anticipated deflation of their egos and popularity so they can end up broke like Hammer. Same... exact... $HIT. Every one of these radio fags is the latest "MC Hammer" all of your favorite "truths" represented. Underground forever. B-Boy stance still offical as I check my chill and flick the ashes of my dopeness in your open eye. Fidduck the mainstream w/ a sandy glass covered c0ck!!! When one graduates to production and produces ones OWN $hit it is exactly as one intends it. No one told Picasso to paint that ugly $hit, he did because its WHO he is. Hell of an artist... Same principals apply. This is the mind of Jus expressly. I am only copping it and will not listen until I am in a position to total my V!

Comment: A_ronious, it's always a treasure to see a loyal fan to such a lyricist like Jus. BUT, at the end of the night, this IS music. He is blessed with the lyrics BUT the instrumentals are unbearable! It sounds like a video-game nightmare, & yes he is an amazing artist but damnnnn can he do us all a favor & sell us an accapella version of his album so we can add our own instrumentals to his vocals? Sorry, but you would have to pay me to listen to them horrid beats,,point blank,,they were THAT bad!

Comment: I just heard a couple joints off this album and I think the beats and his rhymes go excellent together. I am going to buy this for sure. This guy's music is real deep and layered so you don't get burnt out quick. Also it is some left field sh!t that only Real Hip Hop fans would know about. Even a lot of old heads don't know about this.

Comment: so ridiculously psyched for this... however i'm kinda confused by some of the comments being dropped here... do ya'll fools bitching about Jus' beats even remotely understand the artist you're criticizing? this is the man who made Black Mamba Serums, one of hip hop's greatest works of abstraction, full of mad dischordant, challenging beats... ever heard of NMS? yeah those beats were really easy to digest, sure... plus if any sucker thinks he can TRULY absorb Justoleum's album by listening to some shitty pre-release date leaked low audio quality version of the album is poorly mistaken. Jus doesn't drop half-assed bullshit... so I have no desire to listen to it before it drops it will obviously be worth the wait. honestly if u want some clean ass golden-era jocking production... then why do you even listen to Bigg Jus... he don't follow those bullshit trends making elevator music for the sheeple
