Various Artists - 'BOOMBOX: Early Independent Hip Hop, Electro & Disco Rap 1979-82' Vinyl LP Pre-Order
April 24 at 3pm
Soul Jazz Records' new 'Boombox' features some of the many innovative underground first-wave of rap records made in New York in the period 1979-82, all released on small, independent, of ten family-concern record companies, at a time when hip-hop music still remained under the radar. This first exuberant wave of innocent, upbeat, 'party on the block' rap records were the first to try and create the sounds heard in community centers, block parties and street jams that initially took place in the Bronx in the mid-1970s. Deluxe double CD-pack comes with slipcase, 40-page outsize perfect-bound booklet, extensive notes, exclusive photography and original label artwork. Triple heavy weight vinyl includes full artwork, text and notes as well as free download code.

Dam-Funk - 'DJ-Kicks' Vinyl LP Pre-Order
April 24 at 10am
At a satisfying 19 songs, Dam lets grooves breathe; this is a mix to happily get lost within. It's a document in vibe. Unexpected contemporary joints from low-key producers like Henning and L33 mingle with lost gems from unlikely places. 80's Fusion-Jazz guitarist Tony Palkovic on "True To Yourself" follow the airy-burn of new-age ensemble Gaussian Curve's "Broken Clouds" or the super rare bliss-Funk of "Theme From Beach Boy" from 1982. This is an extensive instrumental composition that on its own could only be classified as signature Modern-Funk. There may be a lot of folks dabbling but there really is only one Damon.

Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band - '55' Vinyl LP Pre-Order
April 23 at 8pm
Long awaited debut "55" is finally being released on Brooklyn's own Big Crown Records. 55 is a journey through re-interpolations and covers with an updated approach, pushing Steel Pan music to uncharted territory. From the smoothed out Reggae cover of John Holt's "Police In Helicopter" to the DJ sure shot cover of Faith Evan's "Love Like This" BRSB's 55 is reinvigorating tunes both well-known and helping to shed some light on tunes still largely undiscovered. If the 45s that have already come out on Mocambo, Plane Jane, and Truth & Soul are an indication, this full length is going to be a staple to both casual listeners and DJs alike.

Ohbliv - 'Baker's Dozen: OHBLIV' Vinyl LP Pre-Order
April 23 at 3pm
* Copies with the bonus 7" are already claimed! Volume Two highlights Richmond, Virginia's based beat maker Ohbliv, whose style is best described in his own words: "The compositions presented on this album represent getting back to the original intent of why I started making beats: creating a raw soulful experience. As artists in these fast paced times it's important to remember our initial intent when we began, and mine was and always will be created what I want to hear first. If you dig it, dig it with me."

Oddisee - 'Alwasta' Vinyl LP Pre-Order
April 23 at 10am
Oddisee's new EP, "AlWasta," takes its title from the Arabic colloquial term used to mean (to use colloquial English) "the plug." The term "wasta" comes from the Arabic word "wasat," meaning "middle" or "middleman," and describes a member of the community who acts as a connector using their wealth of social currency. Understanding the value of social currency & how to use it (for better or worse) is what Amir Elkhalifa aka Oddisee focused on as the primary inspiration for his writings.
