Summary

L.A. rapper Blu burst onto the scene in the late 00s with the widely acclaimed Exile collaboration Below The Heavens, igniting a West Coast hip hop renaissance in the process. In the years since, the enigmatic emcee has released a steady stream of critically-acclaimed projects, from the love-themed concept album Her Favorite Colo(u)r to the genre-bending NoYork. Now, Blu is back with Good To Be Home, his first ever double album. Featuring a host of West Coast hip-hop luminaries, Good To Be Home is an unapologetic celebration of Los Angeles music and culture. "This is my most defining record ever," says Blu. A cohesive collection with two discs and no filler, Good To Be Home is an important addition to Blu's already impressive catalog. Artwork designed by famed contemporary artist Joseph Martinez.

Comment: The sound on this is dope, it has a gritty texture to it. Like it was spit out a ghetto blaster and recorded to tape. Has an ill atmosphere to it. And Blu kills it on the raps. This is like 90s hip hop revival.

Comment: Due to poor mastering this record is almost unlistenable. A real shame, because lyrically Blu is on point.

Comment: I find this album to be extremely overrated on this site. I'm not even trying to hate on Blu but this album is at best OK. I've listened to the entire album front to back a few times trying to figure out why this appeals to people so much and I'm still left scratching my head. Boring beats topped with boring average Blu.

Comment: First off I think Blu is very overrated but got damn this album is the sh*t! Every track is ILL and the features are all on point. Bombay's production sounds similar to Madlib but that's just my opinion. Don't get me wrong, Bombay did his thang on here and Blu tore them instros up. I recommend this album to everyone. Straight West Coast BANGER!!

Comment: 5 stars to Blu's new single. I'm from L.A. and representing the true music of the west coast, a lot of mainstream lames f*ckin up the west coast rap realism. This is that everyday music not that hype B.S.! Nothing or no one on the radio can be compared to Blu. Peace to Blu, staying true to his music not many cats from L.A. can keep it real. Real lyrics, music, everyday life hustling living music.

Comment: This album is straight DOPE. Listened through it twice already today, it's got that laid back west coast feel, themes, and beats. It also has the effortless high-brow lyricism and punchlines you expect from Blu. I can tell I'll be listening to this album all summer.

Comment: This cover is from a Lopers gang (a Santa Ana varrio, Orange County)flick taken in the 90's. Strange that Blu would use this as an album cover.
