Summary

The master of metaphors and killer punchlines returns with the follow up to 2001's I Told You So. On Poison Pen Chino XL enlists the hottest talents from a few of hip-hop's most resound crews, with appearances from Wu-Tang affiliate Killa Priest, Psycho Les of The Beatnuts and Proof of D-12. Hailing from East Orange, New Jersey, Chino XL made his rap debut in 1987 at a high school talent show. From there he joined forces with local producer and lyricist Kaoz, to form Art of Origin. The duo's demo caught the attention of Rick Rubin in 1991, and Art of Origin became the first rap crew to appear on Rubin's Def American Recordings since Public Enemy. Although a purely hip-hop operation, Art of Origin were influenced by both rap and heavy metal and became the first to blend the two into a genre later dubbed "Horrorcore" in the mid-90s, with the appearance of the Gravediggaz and the Flatlinerz. Despite recording two albums worth of material, Art of Origin disbanded after releasing only two singles. Chino's 1996 solo major label debut album Here To Save You All, is recognized by all who have heard it, as one of the most underrated underground hip-hop albums ever made. With underground hip-hop gaining recognition as an intellectual movement, hopefully the advanced lyrical prose on Poison Pen will garner Chino XL the respect he has always deserved.

Comment: For those not familiar with Chino this kid may not be the flashiest delivery or crunkest beats but he is a legend for giving lyricists what the look for....material... this guy stays consistant with his verbal prowless literally destroying the conept of how rap should be.im a huge fan and in an industry of cmmercialism even plaguing real talent Chino has always kept a great border line to both. This album though scattered in direction and only using few beats woth mentioning gives the listner every emmotion as far as lyrical content I def think this is a great buy for any fans of real hard hitting lyrics.
