    Product Details

Born and Raised is Cormega's highly anticipated follow up to The True Meaning which won the Source Magazine's prestigious "Underground album of the Year" award in 2002 and his critically acclaimed 2001 debut The Realness.

Cormega, real name Cory McKay, grew up in the Queensbridge Housing Projects, forming childhood friendships with future rappers such as Nas, Mobb Deep, Nature and Capone-N-Noreaga. Noted for his vivid and poignant narratives about inner-city life, Mega gained notoriety in the 90s, despite still being incarcerated, following a shout-out from Nas on his song "One Love" on the classic Illmatic album.

After his release from prison in 1995, Cormega became determined to pursue rapping. Nas featured Mega as a guest on "Affirmative Action" from his second album It Was Written. From there Cormega started his own record company, Legal Hustle Records and dropped the two aforementioned releases.

Born and Raised features an all star cast of legendary producers including DJ Premier, Large Professor, Pete Rock, LES, Buckwild, Havoc, Nottz, Easy Mo Bee, Ayatollah, Fizzy Womack, and DR Period as well as appearances from EMPD's Parish Smith, Brand Nubian's Grand Puba, KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane, Tragedy Khadafi, Mobb Deep's Havoc and Fame of MOP. This album is a must for any true Hip Hop fan.

Comment: He needs to update his subject matter. There isn't much diversity in his rhymes. That gets old after a few albums. It's alright overall. A couple of songs sound like he's using a messed up mic or something too.

Comment: been a mega fan for years, I feel like he is one of the most slept on mc's ever. but part of that is his fault. this joint has flashes of greatness, I want to say its his best yet... but I feel like it's a little short of that. that being said the preme tracks are butter as always, my favorite on the lp wis the large pro joint, "life is a journey, before I went the rap route... I serve n*ggas off the bench like stackhouse" I rank it right along the lines of The Realness, you really hear mega's maturation here

Comment: Upon first listen, it doesn't sound like the craziest album, but it really grew on me and some of Mega's seemingly simple statements really do give you chills when you think about 'em. Crazy throwback vibe, too, I gotta say. Great, concise album.

Comment: Dirty Game is the only track that truly bangs...and that 12" was released in 2006!! Rest of the album's production is really weak (except for the Large Pro joint). His earlier work is much much better.

Comment: Right first of all I'm gonna briefly address the Cormega Nas issue. Overall everyone with sense knows that Nas is a potentially superior Mc and lyricist than Corm but since the classic illmatic he's been inconsistent and his last LP was garbage in comparison to this release period! This release has been a pleasant surprise for real as I initially thought that this could be wack as I hated his material since the dope debut Realness and the sophomore True meaning. However the production is tight the beats are sweet and Corm's has really matured with lyrical concepts and flow which are clearly influenced from his incarceration in the 90's and arguably his best shit to date. Finally to a certain illiterate retarded fool from the west coast who always spews garbage on this site.... why review an artist who you've always perceived to be wack??? Your review is biased/subjective and a waste of space and you should be disembowelled you piece of ???? Anyway def one of the best releases of 09!!! Peace I'm outta here!!!

Comment: 4 stars out of 5 ...Def cormega best album. its a album full of personal struggles as a child, and vivid tales of the streets. great supporting cast from legendary producers. songs that shine are the two premier tracks and " girl"

Comment: Cormega is the great rapper !!! My uncle is often able to play me some songs of Cormega and we aknowlege the rapper with the word skills but it harder to groove we admit. Maybe the last song can be classical with many senior old style rap members taking part in it.
