Del is an artist who helped set the standard for the new mold of MC/Hip Hop artist. In 1991, with the release of I Wish My Brother George Was Here, and shortly after with No Need For Alarm in 1993, he laid the blueprint for the new west coast sound. His last solo album, Both Sides Of The Brain was released in 2000 on Hiero Imperium, the label he founded with other members of his Hieroglyphics crew. Del's impact on the music world did not end with his solo work, or even the albums his label released. At the beginning of the new millenium, Del branched out and through his work with Dan the Automator on the Deltron 3030 record and later with the Gorillaz multi platinum first album (and on which he voiced the hit single, "Clint Eastwood"). Del's continued pushing of the boundaries in the art of MCing proves that talent and versatility can make rap relevant outside the traditional boundaries of the genre. Eleventh Hour ends a hiatus for Del the Funky Homosapien, one of the world's most uniquely brilliant rap artists. It is classic material, full of lyrical twists and turns, forthright yet deeply subtle and metaphorical in its exploration of life in the Bay Area. It is a triumphant return for one of the pioneers of underground hip-hop culture.

Comment: I can't begin to understand why people are hatin on this album!? IT"S DOPE! Check it out for yourself. Like CJ said, it might be an acquired taste, but if you have that taste you will love this shit. The beats are creative as hell, the lyrics are raw and everything about this album is DEL. I love it, it's on my favorites list.

Comment: There's albums that are good right off the bat. Then there's albums that you don't like at first but they grow on you. This is neither. A genuine dissapointment after YEARS of waiting for something new from DEL. He fell off in a big way.

Comment: This album is sick, but it is an acquired taste. I love the fact that everyone of Del's joints always comes with a different style. Can't wait for Deltron 2, because 3030 is probably one of the greatest albums ever put on wax...

Comment: Oh yeah, a couple other things: There really are some dumb muthafuckas posting about this album. First of all, the kid who said that "Situations" is the best song must be mentally challenged. Second of all, the other kid who said this album is better than his last should be executed for being born with such a major brain malfunction. Third of all, the kid who said Del should stick with the rapping and forget the producing should be shot in the knee repeatedly for being straight up handicapped! DEL CAN PRODUCE, YOU DUMB FUCKS!! UMMMM... THIRD EYE VISION ANYONE? DEL'S PRODUCTION ON THAT WAS NUTS? UMMMM... BOTH SIDES OF THE BRAIN? YOU'RE GONNA TELL ME DEL'S PRODUCTION ON THAT WAS WACK? DUDE, YOU SERIOUSLY ARE DUMBER THAN A RETARD! Del is the man, but this album did fall a little short. But still, you fuckin retards need to show some respect, this dude is a fuckin legend!! You a bunch of ignorant, uninformed jackasses!!

Comment: Del, Yo dog, Im sorry for the review I wrote a couple months ago on here, man. Now that I've really listenend to this album, it is FAR better than I previously thought, when I gave it the first listen. This album is actually real good, dog. I think the reason for my negative review, and probably for alot of the other negative reviews, is that myself and others were just used to your amazing album before this one, "Both Sides of The Brain." That album was absolutely crazy, and it's just that this album is not even near that album, but it is still good. Both Sides of the brain was a masterpiece and it's probably hard to live up to that. I think that was the main issue...

Comment: I'm sorry Del but the beats are doo doo. Situations is the only song I like. I basically paid $13.00 just to hear Situations. I think Dan The Automator should have produced it. Both Sides of The Brain was a clssic. Deltron 2020 was sick too. If you like this whole album, it's either you are a super Del fan or you are just a boo boo head.

Comment: Pretty lackluster effort by one of my favorite MCs. I haven't heard anything dope from Heiro in 7 years. They've appeared to completely have lost their touch on the art of production. This was lazy. I'd like to see a Del/MF Doom collabo. That would be tight!

Comment: I agree that this album doesn't in the top 3 Del albums but it's def not wack either. The problem with Del is that he's got a large loyal fanbase that expect a classic everytime he puts out an album, it's not a classic and now see all the disappointed fans hating on him. It's a mixed feelings album but better than his last one and def worth a look... 3.5 Stars

Comment: Im a huge Del fan. I really don't know what happened. Both Sides of the Brain is worthy work from "Del the Funky Homosapien." Eleventh Hour sounds more like it came from "Del the Funky Homosexual." The album is gay. Del what happened in the last 8 years? You can look at it like, Both Sides of the Brain is "Gangstarr" and Eleventh Hour is "Master P." What the HEL, DEL?

Comment: If it wasn't for Del the Funkee Homosapien, I would've never thought hip hop could be as creative as it is. To me, Both Sides of the Brain and Future Development were two super classic hip hop projects. I wouldn't say the same thing about the 11th hour. I think what takes away from what this album could be is some production problems - alot of the beats are really repetitive and boring, although Del is always great with the lyrics and wordplay. I think he took some of the music in a different direction, so it's only expected that people who are into how things "used to be won't like it." Some of the tracks on here are throwbacks to some older day Del tracks, and others he steps up into a more modern arena. Pretty good, but not classic.

Comment: Damn, a lotta people hating on Def Jux when they really had nothing to do with actually making the album. I will say I expected a little more from Del being that its been a long time coming but I still find it an enjoyable listen and it has grown on me since first listen.

Comment: Funny, I came across some old school Del shit from back in the day and I gotta say propes to that. But this new vibe collabo with Def Jux/Hiero Imporium ain't cutting it. I think I like one song on all the album. Del needs to go back to his roots as he did back in the day. Giving this 2 stars is being generous. I wish his old school underground mixtapes would be brought to cd quality...then his records would be selling...But I still got mad respects to Del and the Hiero crew...

Comment: When Del went out and claimed that he was studying music theory, I got very worried. After all, the last time a rapper started bragging about studying music theory, it resulted in Q-Tip trying to sing. Ugh. Unfortunately, my fears were confirmed as this album is nowhere near as good as his past work. Contrary to popular opinion, Def Jux is NOT to blame for this. This is all Del's fault. His attempts at making keyboard beats are almost as bad as Kool Keith's post-BLACK ELVIS material, and Del sounds incredibly BORED! In fact, I expected a lot more from this being a Def Jux project, since his colab with El-P ("Crossbreeds") on the last album outshines everything on this album put together. Hopefully, Del still has Dan & Domino's phone numbers, because he should never be allowed to get behind a production board ever again. Just like Common found out the hard way with ELECTRIC CIRCUS, it doesn't matter whether or not you try to be 'different' or 'expand horizons', because in the end, WACK is still WACK.

Comment: 11th hour is a great album from start to finish... "Slam Dunk" is mind blowing!... Del proves he is mastering this artform... His messages are clear and straight forward... hes basically explaining to the listener where hes at in music right now... he knows exactly what hes doing and hes far from bullshit on this record...and he is clowning all the haters on this album as well... suckas aint gettin him just because hes on a different level... I aint riding anyones dick but props to del!

Comment: Del, I love you, I love your old music. This album is trash, the beats sound like their from the mid to early 90's. Del's voice is weak on most of the tracks and he spits tracks about the lamest shit (Slam dunk????). Stop reading whatever music theory books you read, don't make your own beats and just stick to Deltron and leave the beats to Dan.

Comment: Like pretty much anything else Def Jux, (at least for me) it's not something you hear and think is dope off the bat. I didn't care for Fantastic Damage or I'll Sleep When You're Dead at first but I love em now and 11th Hour has already grown on me since the first listen. I agree it's not Del's best and I had very high expectations for it coming out on Def Jux. I just don't understand why theres not a track with Aesop Rock, Lif, or El-P. All 3 of em have done a track with del before and each song is dope. By the way, all you mark asses bashing Def Jux are retarded. Crank that soulja boy.

Comment: the tracks featured are terrible. Del is usually an extremely intricate and gifted MC. However with this Def Jux release he seems to be the opposite. Def Jux is horrible and I hold them responsible for this trash and not Del. I can't think of one good album Def Jux has released, with the notable exception of Lost by Cool Calm Pete. El-p is terrible and so is his label.
