Summary

Deltron 3030 is composed of a trinity of alt-rap all-stars: Master lyricist Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, superproducer Dan 'The Automator' Nakamura and virtuoso turntablist DJ Kid Koala. Individually, they stand at the top of their respective musical disciplines; together, on the eponymous Deltron 3030, they warped space, bent time, transcended genre and blew minds, creating an album that still stands today as one of the most important records in the annals of underground hiphop.

Now, over a decade later, they're finally releasing the long-awaited follow-up to their debut an album titled Deltron 3030: Event II. "This time, the album has a specific story," says Del. "The Deltron world has gone too far with technology. Everything's destroyed, and you just see the remnants of our technology. The streets are run by criminals, the police are outnumbered and outgunned, and we're like pirates, running rogue, doing what we do to survive. That's the scene of it. We're trying to be as literary as possible while dealing with a musical format. I don't know if you could even categorize this as a hip hop album - it's more like a rock opera, but using rap."

He notes that the words, music and narrative have been deliberately chosen to put listeners into a specific emotional state. "This record took 13 years, and the whole time fans are telling us we better come out with Deltron right now - quit teasing me," laughs Del. "Well, this is beyond a regular album. Because I would say, me, Dan and Koala, we aren't limited by what other rap groups do - we're musicians first. I studied music theory for ten years. Dan and Koala been learning music since they were kids. We're bringing it all together here, everything, and the fans, the critics, they all going to be surprised by what we got. You'll see."

Comment: "turbo lasers"? infantile wack lyrics. I only liked one song really on the first 3030. Lost respect due to personal dealings a long time ago. I try to have a shred of hope for Hiero. Eh, dem barely hangin on. Y'all made some bad moves....if Hiero ain't make you their white bitch then they racist. Fuckers aren't pure. I use to look up to you b*tches.

Comment: Mr. Spacely is on the right track to understanding why this album is sup-bar. Dels lyrics are solid, the beats are solid, but all the emotion and delivery of his verses that Del used to possess seems to be gone. He is monotone and does sound like he is just reading words off a page not telling a story or kicking some knowledge. Del needs to get his emotion back, re-record this album and it would be a banger.

Comment: How is this album over out heads? The un-edited vocals sucked (they could of at least cut out his breathing pauses, to match the beat) sounded amateur even. Del sounded like he was just reading off a book, & they put a beat over it. I take it y'all ain't ever recorded & edited a song before.

Comment: People have to understand that it is incredibly difficult to follow up a ground-breaking album like the first Deltron 3030 record. That album goes down in history as one of the greatest of all time. There was a lot of pressure for Dan, Del, and Kid Koala to make an album that met up to the same expectations as the first. So much that they waited over a decade to release the second album. I don't know all of the details of why they waited so long, but the fact is that it wasn't possible to compare to the first record. Saying that though, I do like this album. It took me a few times to listen to it to really appreciate it for what it is. There are a couple tracks that I have to skip past, but in general, it is good. In some aspects it's amazing, but in others it's lackluster, especially some of Del's lyrics, which is to be expected with how much time has passed. Overall it does not suck, it is not horrible, and anyone saying that needs to stop comparing it and give it another listen.

Comment: Nothing close to the first Deltron, disappointed with this one, Del sounds like he's going thru the motions and the singing on the hooks remind me of Eminem, that shit is WACK!! In clear consciousness I can't support this!!!

Comment: A lot fools on here probably listened to the album once and gave it low rating on some typical "it's not as good as the first one" swag. Ughh toys are far too one dimensional. It's one of the reason I hate pseudo "underground" hip hop heads.

Comment: It first listen I didn't like it and said it's not the first blah blah blah well of course its not the first its been years since but this is still a solid record that flows and tells a story about this future world hes is describing. If you dont like it you dont like hip hop.

Comment: I don't understand why people are hating on this album.. and recommending Danny Brown instead?? Don't get me wrong, Danny Brown is dope in his own way, but that shit doesn't even compare to Del or this album.

Comment: Def diggin it...no doubt some misses here, but the 5 or 6 gems are what gives this album 4 stars. "Agony" is currently my fav jam...a 5 star joint that gets me amped. All in all, cop the album.

Comment: Nakamura's beats are flawless as always, Del's flow is lethargic and just right. I've had this in my car for a few days now and like it the more I listen to it. It's not 3030, but nothing is.

Comment: Coming from a true hip hop head it's pretty sad to say that Damon Albarn was the best part of the entire album. Del's lyrics were decent on most tracks and relatively good on a few. The skits were TERRIBLE. david cross' parts were not funny, though what can u expect from him? why would del allow him TWO tracks?! I mean, maybe 1. maybe. The lonely island shit, idk what to say about that. It was worse than a post90's SNL sketch. The album's beats were actually quite nice, but they don't seem properly mixed with the vocals. I thought deltron was about being timeless, not just simply being something to listen to once and say "um, ok" Oh well, let's bump 3030 again and pretend event II never happened.

Comment: They took their time and created a cohesive well produced album and TommyJohn is right it sticks to the Deltron roots. You could slip anyone of these tracks onto the original album and no one would notice. Those saying this is nothing like the original album and that Del or Automator suck now are way off base and probably don't enjoy the original as much as they say. Heavy rotation all week.

Comment: Yeah Tibbs, below me, is right. I dug a good 3 songs, the un-edited vocals sucked (they could of cut out his breathing pauses, to match the beat at least) sounded amateur even. Del sounded like he was just reading off a book, & they put a beat over it, opposed to the 1st album, where his flow style was flawless.

Comment: People forget this album is almost 11 years after the original... Del isn't going to have the same tenacity he had when he was young.. His flow isn't quite what it used to be, but damn this album sticks to the Deltron roots. Great production, oddball skits, and some great intergalactic hip-hop make this a must have album.

Comment: I was praying to never see a sequel to the original Deltron 3030 (or a Madvillainy) because it can't be duplicated and a to be continued will not feel seamless. I got excited to only be let down. I've spun it 4 times and only 3 songs are decent, the first album is a full dope hip hop trip every time you play it. Just doesn't sound the same.

Comment: Had to rate this 5/5 stars to help balance out the 1/5 stars on here. It's really a 4/5 album...maybe a 5/5...maybe. Hard to followup a classic 13 years later, so they succeeded in my eyes considering the massive shoes they had to fill. Quality release.

Comment: WHY THIS ALBUM SUCKS: 1. TOO MANY FEATURES/TOO MANY FEATURES THAT SUCK. NOT ONE FEATURE SUITS THE ALBUM. 2. THE BEATS ARE WACK. YOU KNOW WHEN YOU HEAR AN AUTOMATER BEAT, THE ONLY BEAT THAT HAD THAT AUTOMATER SOUND WAS "DO YOU REMEMBER" AND THAT WAS THE ONLY GOOD SONG 3. DEL WAS WACK. NOT ONE CLASSIC LYRIC ON THIS ENTIRE ALBUM. 4. WAS KID KOALA EVEN ON THIS? 5. WHAT WAS SO GOOD ABOUT THE ORIGINAL IS BECAUSE IT WAS PERFECT, ORIGINAL AND AHEAD OF ITS TIME. THIS DOES NOT SOUND LIKE DELTRON 3030. IF ACTUALLY LIKED THIS ALBUM YOU PROBABLY NEVER LISTENED TO THE ORIGINAL FROM BEGINNING TO END. RIP DELTRON

Comment: "it's not like the first one..." wah wah wah give it up their not gonna make an album like the first one, so dont go expecting it. Still a dope album if you ask me, a few weaker tracks but songs like "pay the price, agony, look across the sky, city rising and do you remember" are dope.

Comment: I've streamed the whole album, and it's super dope. Buying when it's released. Another great concept-like album (still not exactly sure what the concept is) that blends together nicely. Production is on point throughout, and the skits are actually good like on the original 3030. Album stays strong all the way through, too.
