Summary

Grammy award-winning, legendary producer Diamond D of the historical Diggin' In the Crates (D.I.T.C.) collective returns with a brand new, star-studded compilation titled "The Diam Piece". "The Diam Piece" features the likes of Pete Rock, Talib Kweli, Skyzoo, Rapsody, Hi-Tek, A.G., FAT JOE, Alchemist, Pharaohe Monch, Black Rob, ELZHI, Kurupt, Ras Kass, Scram Jones, Guilty Simpson, Tha Alkaholiks, Nottz and more. This is Diamond's first production compilation album and is produced entirely by himself, except for the bonus track "Superman" produced by DJ Scratch. The album is being released on Dymond Mine Records and is full of the classic productions for which he is best known.

"I wanted to make a classic sounding project with some of my favorite iconic and new MC's... I call it "Brand New Retro" in this age of keyboard synth beats and dumbed down lyricism." Says Diamond on the new album.

No watered-down Hip Hop, just the MPC 3000, The Yamaha Motif ES8, an intricate selection of samples and the mic skills.

Comment: Straight up classic. Take two, to the face. Let the album play, turn it up and then repeat! Golden sound, timeless beats knocking on every track! Thank you for my eardrums being so blessed. Check your pulse, if you ain't nodding to this project then you might be dead!

Comment: I'm a big fan of D.I.T.C. and Diamond D dropped some dope beats on this album. I give it 4 stars because there are a few tracks that I don't like. But I do agree with KLAUS that "rap life/only way 2 go/vanity" are the dopest tracks on the album.

Comment: This album is dope! We all love D's old joints but like Guru said on the Moment of Truth album, you have to update your formula. But it's still that same dope Diamond D sh*t. Word up.

Comment: This is a Diamond D album, it sounds like a Diamond D album (minus Stunts and h.p.i.)not breaking any barriers good listen (instrumentally) Fat Joe is hilarious (not intentional) Diamond supplies some pretty decent musical backdrops but unfortunately doesn't sound too inspired nor do his guest MCs(?) or just thugs with the ability to rhyme words together( kind of) not sure the line is pretty blurred nowadays.

Comment: Rap Life, Only Way 2 Go, Handz Up: these are the only tracks I liked, damn this album was a big let down, the beats are to f*cking weak and sloppy, sorry that is opinion!

Comment: This LP is very underwhelming. There are a few decent tracks here and there. I hate to give this LP a low rating for such a dope legendary producer, but it didn't meet my expectations. I expect greatness from Diamond D, but he dropped the ball on this one.

Comment: I knew this album would suck. These guys should stick to what made them legends in the first place and do some old real hip hop s#%t instead of trying to be "up to date" so to speak.

Comment: I'm a Diamond D fan since day one ,but I'm saying this sh*t is wack ,this album is a waste, this album is no boom bap at all ,this is my opinion. Y'all giving 4 stars because you love the n*gga ,that ain't hip-hop ,hip-hop is about truth and realness ,this album is average ,that makes it wack for a legend like Joe.

Comment: Consider that a 4.5. Dope album through and through(PERIOD) Son dropped "Best Kept Secret" and "Sally's Got a One Track Mind" back in '92 from the Golden Era classic Stunts... LP, and more than proves he's a lifer with a release deserving of more than just a "solid" reference, especially considering much of the garbage put out by artists these days. An understated response here, to say the least, but I believe the music speaks for itself.

Comment: Legit project. Diamond D still has it and never lost it. Always has been and always will be a top 10 double threat. The track with Kev Brown is a classic, I only wish it was longer.

Comment: First of all, look at the emcee lineup. Then, add a Diamond D production behind each of those names? That is the recipe for a 5 star album right there. I actually think every single beat is dope, and that's very rare for any record. There are great sample work and cuts and I honestly don't know how anyone that likes hip hop could think this is wack. Everybody came through on the features. The tracks felt organic, not like they just emailed a verse over and slapped it together. The beats feel tailored to each artist, which is dope. Also, Grandaddy I.U. Enough said.

Comment: I think there are a bunch of idiots on this site, this album is dope and the person that said this sh*t is commercial you don't know what you're talking about. People expect too much, this is a banging joint Diamond D.

Comment: Wow, seems like people are trippin about this album with their 2 star ratings. To each their own though. This has a really good chunk of music and deserves at least 3 stars, but I have to give it 4 though. This is definitely one of best projects to come out this year.

Comment: There is some great production and some mediocre production on here. I would've cut this to about 14 tracks and it would've felt like less filler. Still great to hear Diamond's voice again. 187 is a crazy f*cking beat.

Comment: Mad mediocre, c'mon Diamond, you could've done way better. What was the point of pushing it back if you were going to drop this average album? Sometimes cats need to bow out gracefully.

Comment: Very disappointed and angry, a lot of features but no boom bap and Scratch did the best track. Happy I did not purchase the CD,so I'm back buying back my 904s classics boom bap, all this waiting for this f*ckery? No disrespect, I love Diamond but this sh*t right here is wack.

Comment: From the samples posted online, this sounds like it could possibly end up being one of the illest records dropped this year. Definitely quality hip hop here produced by a legend and featuring more than a handful of dope MC's. Cannot fathom why anyone who appreciates "real" hip hop would pass up on this. A definite cop.

Comment: Hey boob, I mean Bob - Diamond D is also 100x's doper than you will ever be. What have you done to advance hip hop? Rather, what have you done to pioneer any cultural movement? Sorry, keyboard gangsterism doesn't count.
