Summary

Dilated Peoples returns with Directors Of Photography, the group's remarkable debut album under the Expansion Team/Rhymesayers Entertainment banner. Evidence, Rakaa (Iriscience) and DJ Babu's new collection demonstrates how the group has been able to remain loyal to its signature sound, style and sentiment while adding new and dramatic artistic wrinkles to its already-extensive musical repertoire.

Comment: Only one track worth listening is the one produced by DJ Premier and some hard ass lines by EV.

Comment: There are a few dope tracks here and there, but overall, this LP was a disappointment. I had high expectations for this LP, but most of the production on some tracks were subpar including the Premo beat.

Comment: Jahzee says bullsh.. All the Dilated albums have lots of producers and guests. Most of the Dilated fans are stuck in the past. They don't enjoy nothing, just thinking to the first albums.

Comment: Really like this one! Dilated still got it. A lot of people hate on the production but I think that's what stands out the most. The Evidence tracks are banging, Diamond D, 9th...and the Oh No track is fire! The Babu tracks disappointed a bit, only because he is a beast and definitely could have picked a coupled different beats. And the Premo joint is obviously ridiculous. Rakaa and Ev can still flow, dope Babu cuts on almost every track, cop it.

Comment: They got too much outside help, nothing fresh. Alchemist got lazy on here.

Comment: I would rate it with 3 stars but there are too many people rating it with 5 stars so I have to give it 2 stars to keep the balance. Otherwise people would think it's one of their best albums... In my opinion this is one of the worst Dilated People albums and I blame the beats for that. In my humble opinion some beats are nice (but not great) but most of them are sub-par and not the typical Dilated People sound we all love.

Comment: Album is FIRE. Let Your Thoughts Fly Away is too sick. Production is on time and reminiscent of the yesteryears with an updated twist.

Comment: Once again…you can't trust you muthaf*ckas in the comment section. 5??? A five? Huh?? Other than a couple tracks, the production is honestly not that good! Every single other Dilated album has better beats than this. C'mon son. The Preemo track is bananas, obviously, but the rest? Average at best. Definitely a disappointment.

Comment: Dilated is back, you can listen to this album from front to back and find a consistent sound. True the sounds are not all boom bap, but it's still dope music. The guest production and MC's shine and mesh well. The packaging is really dope, cop that. Ev, Rakaa and Babs SHINE on this.

Comment: First listen and I wasn't feeling it. Overall production is a bit "flatter" than I prefer but it is very crisp and clear. Lyrics on point. Good album especially compared to what's out now and that means a lot been some heat this year Watson & Holmes, new Statik Selektah is gonna murder too, plus many others. Overall solid album but yes I agree older stuff is much better. BTW, seen these guys live recently and a few years back in Amsterdam. They KILL it live.

Comment: Not feeling this album, the beats are that bad no boom bap very flat production. With 16 songs I may have liked 4 beats. The lyrics are cool but just because you like an artist don't be afraid to call them out. This has almost zero replay value, I just saw them in concert and it was good but even the Premier beat is weak. This is by far their worst album. Very disappointed.

Comment: I respect your opinion, but the only song I don't like is "Figure It Out (Melvin's Theme)", otherwise a straight listen for me. Well produced.

Comment: For me this album is a great return from Dilated Peoples, I think the production is on point over the whole album and Iris & Evidence as usual are nice over the beats. A welcome return to true hip hop sounds with this release and you got to give them props for keeping it fresh as these last two years have been really poor for indie hip hop in my opinion. Dare I say it, but a contender for Album of the Year, yep it's that good!

Comment: Always loved Dilated, but there's just too many throw away tracks that I'm not digging, I only cop if I can listen straight through and sadly this doesn't do it. The couple of computer and soulless tracks just don't vibe, lyrics are on point though. If it's a straight listen for you then snatch it up!

Comment: I can't believe I missed the Word Of Mouth Tour Reunion, I remember vividly I attended the tour in 2000 at the Filmore in SF I was 21 and that night was young, Babs the turntablist really holds it down...lots of inspiration for all turntablists, Rakaa Zulu (peace Ahki) and Ev...and always been a fan since they were on ABB records. They keep doin it and hopefully they won't stop.

Comment: Loved these guys since day one! Their 1st single with Premo is what I expected from them "FIRE". This LP gonna make my year, and I'm too excited to hear the rest of the LP! I give the LP 5 stars before listening to it!

Comment: This actually sounds really good. I stopped paying attention after Expansion Team because I didn't like Neighborhood Watch. From the video and the song, this album could be awesome!
