Comment: Who ever pays $300 for 7 CDs, a DVD, and a record is retarded. If I was rich I would pay that good luck selling that it will be on your shelves for the rest of this life time.

Comment: So here it is, the box is safe and sound at my house. Bought it from an Aussie seller for a discount price. Wasn't gonna spend 250 including handling anyway. First of all, we have a pizza box thingy printed with details of what is gonna be inside, it's stiff enough to protect the inside which is holding in a synthetic foam surrounding the slipcase. There's also some kind of microfiber fabrics (the one you can use to wipe your glasses), embossed with the project's name and stored into a resealable plastic sleeve. The slipcase is definitely a beautiful item, precisely cut and carefully assembled, the material used is a thick glassy black resin with an important density and as it was polished to the max the finish is pretty clean. Something with the strength of the monolith from 2001, A Space Odyssey (Kubrick), add the black mirror effect to it. This item is definitely leaving a warm feeling. I didn't test the phosphorescent properties just yet. When you remove the book its holding, there's a large quantity of white dust all over sticking inside the box. At first it looks like dirt, but then it seems to be easing the book slithering in and out. It's not like if you had some sticky jam on your hands, or like if it was flying all over the room. Book's spine is also embossed with the project title. Again a beautiful item, smooth touch on the cover, creamy color outside and charcoal black inside. 4 CDs on the left page 1, a sleeve holding the booklet page 2, another die-cut sleeve holding the 12" page 4, and again 3 CDs / 1 DVD holding on the right page 5. All is black inside, the coating on the DVD/CDs, the labels on the 12", even of course the booklet again embossed with DJ Shadow's tubular face. A pretty glossy photo paper was used to print this nice booklet. I almost forgot to mention the hand-numbered and hand-signed certificate of authenticity. I wonder why there's not an extensive and super detailed discography added to the box instead of this flimsy selected one. I want to read anecdotes, numbers and facts surrounding the artist and its career spanning over 23 years already! Shadow's website is not a reliable source to understand his work at large. At least when you have almost everything else that was released throughout the years, you do want further insights. Give me something real. This is what I would have called Definitive. A sad point is the glue used to bound the inner sleeves slimed all over. It's sometimes hard to remove the discs, even the 12" is of concern and I had a hard time sliding the booklet out because of this manufacturing weakness. Not cool to play your 12" with glue on the outer rings. I even had to tear some of the inner sleeve for the 12" as it was stuck. But nothing bad and most importantly not visible from outside. Just remember to carefully hold the pages in your hands when you turn them, and again when you close the book. The choice of the music isn't very interesting for many people have already bought the albums individually. All in all it's only 2 previously unreleased tracks available on the regular best of: Listen, Won't you be. And even the live in Glasgow is available on the net. No story around it, just a live set like so many. This is the guarantee this box set won't be handled so often at home. I wanted a full vinyl pressing with colored discs for example. A heavy book with a detailed discography, there's more to talk about Shadow for sure. I wish there were more rare tracks, real ones. I guess it wasn't possible due to sample clearance issues. I also enjoyed the handmade trademark over the years, wish there was some sort of continuity to it. This release is a beautiful item for sure but it's all so secured and well stored in sanitized compartments. Hopefully this is not the sign of changing times towards expensive high end releases. IMO, this is not for hardcore fans who already have it all but for "completists" as is your humble servant. Normal people will buy $10 second hand CDs or $50 gatefold sleeve LPs instead of a $300 (including handling) box set that will be stored in the dark waiting to be sold again in 10 years. Make no mistake, I'm happy to have this box set, it's heavy, it's beautiful, it's sexy, but it's not for listening purpose, it's hard to store and it's expensive. If you still want this hurry up, it now seems to be REALLY out of stocks and prices are skyrocketing on the bay. My 2 cents.
