    Summary

Grammy Award-winning, genre-defining singer Erykah Badu brought a baby daughter into the world February 1, via a midwife-attended home birth in Brooklyn. Badu and boyfriend Jay Electronica took turnstweeting every detail as the birth unfolded. Badu seemingly postponed the release because of the pregnancy and her leading role alongside Mos Def in the indie film, Bobby Zero. Needless to say, Badu's a busy, busy lady.

Naturally, the nu-soul singer is tight-lipped about her self-produced sequel to her socially conscious gold album, New Amerykah Part One (4th World War). What we can deduce is that the "ankh" subtitle delves more into the spiritual themes of Part One. The Egyptian hieroglyphic means "eternal life" after all. Where the 4th World War comes across as a nod towards the war you have with yourself (some have postulated the African-American's Civil Rights movement), Badu says Return of the Ankh deals with a "spiritual and emotional" battle. The sixth album's USB stick packaging includes extras ranging from footage of concerts, to commentary on the recording process and "me in the bathtub with Flavor Flav."

With a new songwriting approach and a fresh outlook on the world, Badu's newest is sure to be another dazzling touchstone in her already impressive discography.

Comment: Iv'e always loved erykah badu. I think that she still the queen of the neo soul movement. This album is nice and mellow but I dont think that it is better than the part 1. It's nice to see her producing her on music sometimes.

Comment: I appreciate that, Kreativ. Part One and Part Two do string together well. The concepts are bold on the first, while they are more subtle on the second, but they are still in there. A good example is the opening 9th Wonder-produced track "20 Feet Tall". The verse and hook refer to love's obstacles, but it can be taken metaphorically for any kind of obstacles in life. As a people, we all come across "walls" that block our path in life, but it's not until we get off our knees in grief and despair that we finally realize that we are "tall" enough to overcome them. I can understand what Megan Foxxx is sayin, cuz it doesn't really have any stand-out bangers, but collectively it's solid. It reminds of Sade's 2000 album "Lovers Rock". That album produced no chart-topping hits, but as a whole, it was arguably one of her most loved albums. Also too, check out Erykah's video for "Window Seat". It's gettin a lot of controversy behind how it was shot guerrilla-style. Besides the obvious superficial reason to love it - cuz Ms. Badu DOES have a fattie! - I love the powerful message behind it. It's so easy to follow what the group majority think. People are afraid to think for themselves. As soon as you expose as an individual - like Erykah fully exposes herself in the video - they are quick to shoot you down. A true epic statement.

Comment: J-Aura you are the truth about Part 1. All the songs you named are the #1s in my book. Soldier (brings chills as such does Telephone and the Healer)!!! Just bought album the other other day. My next goal is to put Part 1 and Part 2 together and see what happens... Ms. Badu can do no wrong! J-Aura hit me up! I love your choices in music! Stay Awake!

Comment: Hey folks try not to dissect every track and just enjoy Erykah's offering. I have the CD and I can see Jay Dilla's affect on her music, I think its beautiful how the fraternity of soulquarions plus Madlib come together to produce soulful hypnotic dense African music. Erykahs vocals always compliment her vocals with intense concentration on how her pronunciation falls in line with the drum patterns. Good album not great, but itís always an honor to hear GOOD music. Dilla still lives on in so many artist From Hudson Mohawk to James Poyser to ?uestlove to Radiohead. You have to appreciate the musicianship on this album.

Comment: this was alright, compared to her other material this is garbage, madlib beats were weak on this in fact the only good beat was dillas, I was just bored the entire cd no bangers at all, part one stomps on this, if I want erykah badu i'll go listen to baduizm or new amerykah pt. 1, but part two is grandma nap music

Comment: WOW! Really?! I am going to say for the record that anyone who puts a rating below 3 stars on this album is LAME. To them people, you could give me one half-assed reason why you don't like it, and I'll give you three strong reasons why you're a retard... This Part Two album is a return to the smooth love grooves and vocalization that Erykah is well known for. Excellent production from Dilla, Madlib, and Georgia Anne Muldrow. "Fall in Love" and "Window Seat" are among my favorites. The iTunes bonus track "Jump Up In The Air" is a headbanger WITH or WITHOUT Lil' Wayne. I apologize if Weezy pissed in your Cheerios and now you can never listen to ANY kind of collaboration featuring him, but anyway... Peep the video if you haven't, it's sick as hell. Mad props to Erykah for this release. It's not quite as concept-heavy as Part One, but it's great for easy listening. The ONLY down side I see on this album is no guest appearance from Jay Electronica... Man oh man, when that happens...

Comment: Yo!!! LOL C'mon LARS, you know you my boy, but I gotta pick on ya. New Amerykah Part One was the TRUTH! Whoo!!! I remember skippin class the day it came out just to go out and buy it! After that, that album ALONE was on continuous repeat for like the next 3 weeks straight... Seriously. Everything from the concepts to the melodies were so damn gutter and revolutionary. Man oh man... On that track "Soldier", when she said "...and if you think about turnin' back / I got the shotgun on ya BACK!" (That's that Harriet Tubman comin' through, you don't know nothin bout that LARS LOL) That shit had me so hype, I was ready to bitch-slap ANYBODY who even looked at me funny, pleez believe! And "Telephone"... that was like pure gospel! RIP J. Dilla. Man... "Master Teacher", "The Cell", c'mon... "The Healer"!!! "...it's bigger than religion, HIP-HOP / it's bigger than the government..." How you think President Obama got elected? LOL It damn sure wasn't Punk Rock that did it! By the way, I love the video for "Jump Up In The Air" with her and Weezy. That shit is freaky as hell...
