From Exile, the man responsible for critically acclaimed collaborative albums with Blu, Fashawn, Aloe Blacc & Johaz, comes the instrumental album Zip Discs & Floppies...featuring 13 unearthed and unheard instrumentals spanning Exile's production career.

"When I was 15 years old, before the internet, before the existence of state of the art beat making programs that quantize or add effects, my first beat was conceived using two tape decks and a turntable, followed with beats from a single push button sampler and 4-track, progressively moving up to a Roland MS1, and of course the MPC 2000. Stacks upon stacks of floppy disks saved my beats, sometimes even using 2-6 floppies for one beat. Now my beats are created using a MPC2000 XL and a zip drive capable of holding up to 15 beats, but with only 10 left I'm left with a promise to myself that it is time to upgrade to a new machine to make beats. These beats are joints I had laying around that were never used, but it's still heat. Bang these beats loud as we near the end of my beats on the MPC 2000 XL."
The limited edition vinyl is available in three color versions, Electric Blue, Coke Bottle Green & Orange.

Comment: i remember Xile from the past to date when it was all about Dream Sequence and then Rocketship from the mid to late 90's and from a long ways till now, He came to San Ho"Zae" in...2001 or maybe 02 ran into him and Aloe at Iguana's/Cafecitos open mic (he still had the pony tail clean shaven and weighed less lol) and gave him my black book and he pieced a spaghetti-like...? I dont know wat.., it spelled EXILE, and I still have it. wonder if he remembers that, and Aloe rocked it to a room filled audience on the mic or was it accapella...? and for free! this record is a display of integrity over a substantial amount of time. which reminds me of what Prefuse(Scott) did with 'One word Ext. outtakes giving you the extra beats as a bonus, but for Exile it was unreleased beats over an accumulated amount of time. this also reminds me of some visuals on youtube of Damu on his MP2KXL with loads of floppies now no longer is the producer behind the curtains but reveals the tricks of the trade. for some reason it seems that back then Hip Hop artist or the record labels didnt want you to see how the production process took place, all you get was just the finished product and maybe music videos, it seemed taboo to reveal how to sampling and what sources it came from which also would have influenced others to do the same during a time when sample clearance was an issue in the industry and still is. these days over the past decade and some the drum machine is accompanied with the dj setup or maybe just a midi pad controller and labtop (in the box) for live performance THIS RECORD WILL SURELY BE ENJOYED BY MANY!!!...AND IM OUT
