Product Details

The Ecology is the upcoming second studio album by American hip hop recording artist Fashawn. The album is currently scheduled to be released on September 30, 2014 by Nas' Mass Appeal Records. The album's production, similar to his debut album Boy Meets World (2009), will be handled primarily by his longtime collaborator and record producer Exile. In 2014, Fashawn signed a recording contract with Nas' new label Mass Appeal Records for the distribution of the album.

The title and concept of the album entails exploring the "ecology" of one's environment: the people, objects, and events surrounding one's life, the things that provoke human behavior, how individual choices lead to different paths, and how everyone and everything is ultimately interconnected.

Comment: abcDEFg'd up 'shawn effortlessly flows through multiple syllable prose and stories over fresh to abcDEF' back drops. He really takes a cool evening sk8 approach to this albums feel and I dig it.

Comment: I don't buy many albums but had to cop this one after hearing the first few singles "Golden State of Mind" "Something to Believe In" and the incredible "Guess Who's Back". I thought those tracks were dope, and was even more impressed to hear even more incredible tracks like "Higher" and "Places To Go". Top quality album in my opinion.

Comment: Kind of let down by this one. It's solid but not what I was hoping for. Just came across as halfway commercial and halfway raw - sort of didn't get past the “this is cool” point to where it becomes dope. Solid try but not living up to the hype (or his first album).

Comment: Been a huge fan of Fashawn since Boy Meets World, and I love The Ecology even more. This is hip hop in its purest form, soulful beats, honest lyricism.

Comment: This is straight garbage, One Hit Wonder describes it perfectly. No wonder he teamed up with Nas! Both are one hit wonders and fell off big time after their first release. Mass appeal is nothing I can feel. Exile is also disappointing to even have agreed to this, he too lacks quality in this project as in his previous work with Blu. Nope, no buy, no support, because no real hip hop. You can tell Fash tries too hard to appeal to the masses, good luck & good bye!

Comment: One of the most cohesive and well produced albums I’ve heard in a while. Not one skippable track. This is real hip hop.

Comment: "Out The Trunk" just ruins this project. C’mon Fashawn, what were you thinking putting that track on this album? Should have saved it for your booty mix tapes, would have copped this if it wasn't for that horrendous song.

Comment: This album is simply incredible. It seems like some salty hip hop elitists were expecting a carbon copy of Boy Meets World, but I for one am glad Fash matured and grew over time. Artists often evolve for the better, except some listeners remain stuck in time. 5 stars!

Comment: Weak album from start to finish, it even hurts listen to it at some points. But, Fash showed his true colours on several weak tracks preceding this. So, I kind of even expected a rather weak album. It is a shame.

Comment: All the ignorance on this thread is hilarious. This album bleeds true hip hop authenticity. Fashawn & Exile create top quality hip hop music, there's no denying this is a modern day classic. I've listened start to finish a few times already and it's simply a solid album. Exile's production shows his versatility and his genius on the MPC. Fashawn's lyrics are filled with emotion and grab your attention throughout the album. I have no doubt the Ecology will be on many top 10 lists this year. All these kids lacking knowledge, listen to your dad, appreciate good music when it’s created.

Comment: Ain’t feelin it. Too many weak R&B hooks, too simple rhymes, too many throwaway tracks. “Boy Meets World” is like 12 levels above this.

Comment: @Daniro, acquire some self-respect and develop a brain cell before you start hating people with more heart & soul for this culture than you can ever imagine. We criticize artists and hope that they take heed and do a much better album next time. So, think about it, you Norwegian respect preacher. Have respect for people's opinions and then start talking respect. Your German friend and personal life adviser.

Comment: This album tops “Boy Meets World” easily. Exile showcases his most soulful production yet and Fashawn shows a lot of growth as an MC compared to his classic debut album from 2009. I'd put this album up against anything that comes out this year.

Comment: This is a really disappointing album, only 1 or 2 solid joints that have good replay value. Not even close to “Boy Meets World” quality wise. Exile should have just produced the entire project, the whole album just seems rushed, huge let down. I was looking forward to copping the vinyl, but I'm going to have to pass on this.

Comment: R&B hooks all over this trash. Fashawn is whack. Mass appeal is a garbage label owned by a dude that wants to make money by flipping underground art into mainstream trash. F*ck Nas.
