Summary

You're Dead! is a shamanic pilgrimage into the psychedelic unknown of the infinite afterlife. A sonic, visual and metaphysical fusion of technological innovation and technical virtuosity that amounts to a transcendent, mind-expanding plasm that could only exist between our world and another. The enduring universe of Lotus' supporting cast has expanded and evolved to feature in order of appearance, Herbie Hancock, Kendrick Lamar, Captain Murphy, Snoop Dogg, Angel Deradoorian, Thundercat, Niki Randa, alongside mind blowing original artwork by Japanese comic book artist Shintaro Kago. "The album isn't about the end, it's really the beginning. It's a celebration of the next experience. It's the transition and the confusion. It's not 'hey you're dead.' It's 'hey you're dead!'"

Comment: I don't really hate Kendrick. Itís just that a certain college radio station that plays so called hip hop or should I say who doesn't have the right taste in hip hop music just because they don't seem to understand the essence of hip hop with the excuse of trying to be all around urban and sometimes sh*t that sounds "whack" and sometimes played out music that you could just have listened to on corporate mainstream commercial radio. This station played the hell out of anything that was Kendrick, even the sh*t that you heard on commercial radio, and it seems like a desperate attempt to force feed the listeners who don't have other alternatives to other college radio stations during the weekday. So, I got really sick of hearing Kendrick and at one point it was pathetic enough that some of his popular hits started to grow on me, and I needed to remind myself of the caliber of real hip hop with the essence that I used to listen to 10 or more years ago and realized that just listening to music that barely or not to often reminds me of what it used to be like listening to music that really had the definite distinction of the true essence of hip hop. I came to realize that a 26 year old or younger rap vocalist who doesn't know about the essence and how it feels when not being aware of previous eras might disconnect my interest with Kendrick. I donít let the music industry dictate what Iím going to like and it does question how much I love hip hop to the extent where it seems the music industry thinks it wants to start fresh with different sounds. The industry could care less about 35 and older generations who identify with the golden era, so I felt alienated because the music industry's target focus was to gain support from a reluctant younger crowd to force feed them a demand that they will regurgitate back to the A&Rs to make it seem greater than it seems. The industry will not invest any interest in anything that sounds like the golden era because that would only make my generation sound selfish. I have faith in the younger generation that are wiser than being smart and have done their homework. I gave Kendrick five stars because I donít take his sh*t seriously and if I did, it would only mean that I gave him five stars for being whack because it was meant to be, because it only means he is perfectly whack, get it? I do certainly know that real emcees thrive on being called whack cause they donít want to be whack, and that just pushes their game up whenever they are challenged because there is a competitive side that brings improvement. So if someone calls you whack and you take that to heart, you definitely are going to do whatever it takes to prove them wrong and being that it was coming from a hip hop connoisseur for more than 25 years. The conditions for me being a hip hop connoisseur started when I grew up with the music 25 years ago so it almost seems like a musical gentrification where the music I grew up on and not grew on me started to change and it didn't seem like home anymore. I am now realizing that all music has their time and I do know that the younger generation will experience the same sh*t thatís happening to me 10 years or less down the line, so why should I bitch, when Iíve been through it?

Comment: Fantastic, hands down album of the year. Jazzy/fusion with a hip-hop back bone. Smooth, developed style coming from a long line of musical genius. Interesting theme. I went to see him on the "You're Dead! Tour" in Denver a couple weeks ago and it was amazing to say the least. The track with Kendrick was fire.

Comment: R.A.D., didn't you give"The New West Vol 2"five stars? Seems kinda odd for someone who hates Kendrick!

Comment: R.A.D.+H.E.R.=H.E.A.R.D. is a jaded nerd. Kendrick killed that verse. If it were Eyedea spitting those same bars R.A.D.+H.E.R.=H.E.A.R.D. would praise him.

Comment: Seriously H.E.A.R.D, do you think anyone has time to read that nonsense run-on sentence you just vomited onto the keyboard? Self-righteous hip hop critics with no real taste are the worst. I couldn't see anyone else but Kendrick on that track, that track is perfect. On another note, this is some brilliant free jazz from Fly Lo!

Comment: Does anyone know where to get the deluxe 4LP on this? It shows that item on his site - looks nice, 4XLP on fill weight vinyl. I'd like to buy that instead of the 140 gram gatefold.

Comment: Did troll do his homework lol. Fly lo makes and produces beats and thatís his lane, Kendrick is a rapper but not a producer or beat maker who does the vocals. Now if you don't know by now what the difference between the vocalist who is the frontman, and the humble producer who creates the instrumental beats and who allows the rapper or emcee to shine, then you really need some Brainfeedin. Sorry I had to explain all of this or else you would have sounded like an idiot who cant tell between the two lanes from above or below like the difference between a plane and a car. Two cars in separate lanes doing the same thing only makes sense if both are doing the same objective technically. Like producing and vocalizing. Rappers or emcees are also instruments in the composition. But overall the producer does much of the critical laying down of the ground that the vocalist performs on, which is the beat/instrumental. Funny thing is of course Fly lo is Captain Murphy and "Kendrick makes incredible music" is a funny statement which says kendrick does the beats too which also means that excludes or disregards the producer like you werent aware of what it takes to create a complete song and kendrick did it all by himself. I still got to say those one liners are just zombie ass comments wanting to consume your brains. My mind will probe your "g"spot you internet "g"angsta troll, right where you cant comprehend accurate information from all that googling you had to do to figure it out. didn't know you were into douches to clean your vagina out. cant believe you imagined me being a douche as if you needed one. I could careless who produces for Kendrick, never was a fan of him like all the pop zombie fans who like his music just because it was popular. Kendrick also avoided the independent underground Hip Hop scene from 2005 till 2012 when he was also independent, because he never took advantage of the vinyl format other than digital download format. There was a huge community of vinyl collectors in the independent underground Hip Hop community that kendrick disregarded by going digital until he signed to interscope with dre seven years later and pressed his first legit album on wax. You still donít understand the meaning of battle tested, to earn rite of passage to be a true MC. Battles only help raise the bar in verbal dexterity and creative mental capacity and showmanship as a on the spot performer. Itís the sportsmanship of an MC at their highest caliber. I donít think Kendrick is up to par with Eyedea or P.E.A.C.E or Blue Print or any MC that took part in the Scribble Jam Battles or even the Blaze Battles. I really could give a sh*t about any kendrick vocals on any dope producer's beat were the producer should take all the credit for laying down the tracks. Most of the time the beats come first and the vocalist writes after first listening to the beat at least most of the time coming from any legendary producer. Thatís why the beats from the producer is important as the vocalist cosigns.

Comment: Your one of douchiest guy's spamming this website. Right below LARS as far as ranking. You're f*cking high. Have you heard "sing About me". I guess his narratives went over your head. Why compare Flying Lotus and Kendrick. There in two separate lanes, you think Captain Murphy would have his bars? No he wouldn't. What's so brainless about my statement. Please articulate. Or are you just having a baseless opinion.

Comment: "Kendricks makes incredible music. What are you rambling on about. Aside from Biggie, how many people did Tupac have to battle you f*cking Moron. Leave this battle rap sh*t out of the picture, it's not a legitimate argument." so brilliantly brainless, go feed your brain, if Fly Lo produced an album for Kendrick Fly Lo would take the spotlight and the credit as do legendary produced do and the frontman gets all the hype from those who don't know any better. I respect Kendrick personally(as a human being), but not as a lyrical technician (technically) were not on the same page, sorry.

Comment: He's not my favorite, but gotta keep an open mind. Everything Lotus has done thus far has been amazing. I really don't care who's on the track. I really can't wait to hear this.

Comment: The cover looks dope, but from all the real emcees out there you went for Kendrick Lamar seriously?
