Comment: This is what Dilla sounds like after the suits at MCA denied his finished product TWICE because of sample issues. Dilla recorded and sampled himself for almost all the sounds on this album. This was supposed to come out around the same time as Dilla's MCA solo (Pay Jay) and the Ruff Draft EP, followed shortly after by Champion Sound. This shit wasn't made for the industry, this shit was made to fuck up the industry. This was clearly the beginning of a new Dilla era. This shit will get the party bumping. BANG IT IN THE WHIP

Comment: I remember reading/hearing (can't remember which one) an interview where Jay Dee mentioned that he did the beats more for a radio audience because that's what he believed the suits at MCA (He and Frank & Dank were once signed to the now demised company) wanted it that way. This album proves that you should make your albums in your taste and not for some industry knuckleheads. Jay's still dope though.

Comment: Frank N Dank showed some promised on J-Dilla's BBE Label CD "Welcome To Detroit". That CD had hella better beats too. Frank N Dank are sub-par lyrically, the opening track "Marijuana" has a slight dancehall feel to it and is the only bumpable track, this album sounds like a bunch of leftover instrumentals Jay Dee either couldn't sell or thought were just taking up too much space at the lab and he just wanted to get rid of them. Frank N Dank have decent flow, but don't spit anything memorable. First time I have heard a Jay Dee produced CD and wasn't impressed with the beats. Uninspired and mediocre. Pass.

Comment: I really feel as though Jay Dee threw away some real nice beats on this one. Frank-N-Dank don't really rip any of the tracks and just rhyme about the same thing we hear all the time on the radio.
