Product Details

Famed producer/emcee The Alchemist and Oh No, the left-coast rapper/beatsmith are collaborating as Gangrene, to bring audiences the gritty opus Gutter Water on Decon. Over the course of three years and a myriad of emails, the two have built a project that celebrates their shared passion for dusty breaks and lurid wordplay as well as their distinctly different application of each.

On Gutter Water, both Oh No and The Alchemist share production duties while trading verses over each other's dense compositions. Both find themselves remarkably at ease amongst the threatening drums pounded out on endearing vintage equipment, flipping verses that run the gamut from literal to abstract, amounting to an incredible collection of head-nodders. A myriad of features include Raekwon, Evidence, Roc C, MED, Twins Gambino, Planet Asia and Fashawn.

Comment: Very good album here, both producers dropping ill beats (i think Oh No drops the better ones IMO) and rhymes together. Alchemist is not very good at spitting, compared to Oh No who is good at both beats and rhymes, constantly but Alchemist is not really known to be an MC (apart from the Whooliganz days back in the 90's) so we can forgive him for that, all in all, very good release, real hip hop still doin it big, that's all us real hip hop heads can ask for in this world of pop and R&B wackness dominatin the airwaves!

Comment: Feeling "Gutter Water", that shit is hip-hop all day and that beat is dope!!! My mind is definitely on some "I GOTTA MAKE IT OR TAKE IT" shit when I hear that track. But I gotta say "Not Leaving" is probably my favorite track on the whole album cause I can relate to it as far as too many of my n*ggas and fam passing puts a deeper perspective on things. Good lookin' on this album ALC and Oh No!!! A definite banger!

Comment: One more thing...alchemist, y the hell did u start rapping? That gets a huge C'MON SON. stick to producing, dog, that's wut ur good at. Y rap and do it average? Ur a producer, just stop. Also, alchemist shoulda done ALL the production and let other dude rap. Alchemist needs to do some joint albums with some rappers...stop rapping, it gets worse and worse everytime I hear u.

Comment: Nice ass album, these cats go for theirs on this mug.... Alchemist was actually cool on the mic and his production was better than his last few projects.... Oh no went hard on the boards and rhymes....The guest appearances also go really well with the production. One of the better albums of the yr but not the best !!!
