SummaryFania proudly presents the latest release in the Hammock House series. The Lower East Side features remixes that define the essence of the NYC experience, especially those where traditional Latin rhythms converge with House and other Dance/Electronica rhythms and beats.
The combination of vintage Fania tracks with electronica beats and a new millennium sensibility is a marriage made in heaven, as demonstrated by previous installments in our groundbreaking Hammock House series. This month, Fania is proud to elevate the Hammock House brand into a new level of creativity with the release of Lower East Side - an eclectic feast of funky rhythms, cumbia grooves, sensuous electronic textures and remixed Héctor Lavoe vocal lines.
We gave four different DJ/producers access to Fania's treasure vaults: the original multitrack master tapes from recordings by such classic artists as Hector Lavoe, Ray Barretto, Justo Betancourt and Ismael Rivera. The results underscore the timeless vitality of the original tracks. Toy Selectah - a former member of Mexican rap collective Control Machete - has turned Héctor Lavoe's "Aguanile" into a hypnotic masterpiece of tribal beats. Boston-based duo The Whiskey Barons do justice to Ray Barretto classics and add psychedelic cumbia undertones to Justo Betancourt's "Cataño." And Colombian female DJ Isa GT underscores the beauty of 'Maelo' Rivera's vocals on her minimalistic take of Tite Curet Alonso's "Las Caras Lindas."
A not-to-be-missed album for Latin electronica collectors, Lower East Side is also recommended for those salsa fans who would like to discover the allure of electronica - and its ongoing quest to keep the beauty of salsa and boogaloo alive.
