    Summary

As his popularity continues to grow through movies and television, Ice Cube remains committed to the foundation of his career: Hip-Hop music. Quick to emphasize that he is and always will be a B-Boy, dedicated to writing vivid rhymes, delivering stellar stage performances and making dope hip-hop records. I Am The West is poised to be another high point in that mission.

Very few can make as bold a statement as I Am The West and even fewer can dispute Ice Cube's right to stake the claim. His hall of fame resume alone would be enough to own the title, but this album is an opportunity to raise the bar even higher. The hallmark of Ice Cube's best know work is ever present on I Am The West: Lyrics from a realistic perspective, giving voice to those usually ignored or shunned by the power base, rhymes that make you think and songs that set the party off. All supported with outstanding production that makes your head nod. And Ice Cube accomplishes this while thoroughly representing his unwavering commitment to the west coast hip-hop movement that he helped to start over twenty years ago.

I Am The West is a celebration of summertime on the west coast. So it's only right to introduce the album with the first single "I Rep That West." A song on which Ice Cube makes it very clear where he stands in hip-hop. An up tempo record, that's hard enough for the hard core, "I Rep That West" boasts an infectious hook that knows no geographic or demographic boundaries, saturating everyone from the club and radio DJ to those of us singing along in the car. "I Rep That West" is one of several songs on the album that will gain the attention of music fans around the globe. And maybe that's why Ice Cube says he's "too west coast for the west coast."

Comment: sean, the beats by dre headphones is just some piece of shit. The only reason that they r sellin' is because of dr dre and marketing. The beats headphones is like the mainstream bullshit of the headphone industry. When u listen to some real shit, the beats by dre will sound like whale farts.

Comment: Research and see how Ice Cube has been front and center and had the balls to address racism and police brutality. For ignorant people that say he cant do family movies and then come out with an album, well he has a family. So when a person have a family their automatically soft and cant speak to the streets. Ya'll haters need to grow up, no wonder Ice Cube shits on a lot of the new rappers and fans. You guys are BRAINWASHED to accept actin like uncle toms as long as the music sounds good to you cause it's been paid for by the ones that want you to be held down.

Comment: Ok why don't u haters put your money up and make a better album. Ice Cube is an independent artist that is not going to give up his budget to have Pharell give him tracks. The beats bang get some dr dre headphones and stop listening to music on shitty equipment.

Comment: The beats are terrible. Amerikkka's Most Wanted, Kill at Will, Death Certificate--those are the classics. Lethal Injection was so-so. He definitely doesn't rhyme like he used to. Once you do so many kiddy movies, it is hard to take seriously the angry gangsta thing or even the political thing. Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It got me excited about the old Cube being back, but the rest of the beats on that album were also terrible. I can't believe he can't get better beats, even if he's independent now--he certainly could AFFORD better beats and there are underground producers that can make tracks that are a million times better than what is on this album. So I can only conclude, Cube's taste in beats, like his flow, has gone way down hill. This album is just so boring...I couldn't imagine listening to the whole thing all the way through, and that's just based on hearing the samples of the tracks on this site. Big disappointment. I guess you really can't go back.

Comment: Pure fucking garbage. It's so sad to see how far he has fallen from his glory days (first 4 albums). Kinda seems like he just fizzled after Bitch in Yoo.

Comment: Lpac... you may be right. I heard bits and pieces also. I am tired of cats coming out after a while and trying to "take the game back" when they gave up the game to these bubble gum pop princesses... don't really care how ANY of you feel about Em.... he is NOT real. He is not a real rapper. Actually he IS a real rapper. A phukkin' gimmick, like Cube will become if he re-enters this game. I say go unerground where we all know HipHop truly lives and leave these "super-producers" to rot in the stench of their own fornicative festuring. He ha searned production and his rhymes stay tight anyone would be pleased and honored to work with him. $hit sucked. Agree with Soul Unique on the rifle thing too... Do NOT be a gimmick. Paid or not, you are not a hater if you recognize hypocrisy. You preach to teach the kids and "change" things and then rock the rifle. It's over. I like Cube the actor but its time for O'Shea Jackson to hit the scene and Cube to call it.

Comment: Just listened to this album sampler on dubcnn, its shit, got about one or two good tracks, alot of south beats and this album meant to be I am the west, but there is about 2 or 3 west beats, weired. Cube has lost it. His flow is lazy now. I wont be wasting money on this.

Comment: Yo L"pac" who asked you. Opinions are opinions duke. Lethal Injection wasn't all that without the remixes. The remixes made that album better. The regular album was weak, except for "Really Doe" and maybe 2 more tracks. Laugh Now was hot and Raw Footage IS dope. Quit hatin'. To judge Raw because of that one south crap with Jeezy is beyond ignorant. Peace.

Comment: Look I love Cube but only his first 4 solo albums and the 1st westside connection album, to say that Raw Footage was butter and Laugh now cry later was hot is dead wrong, they were full of down south beats which doest suit cube one bit. It looks like he is keeping it strictly westcoast on this so fingers crossed
