Comment: I love this CD. Real talk, its refreshing to have honesty in music. What's better, is a positive message and sick beats to tie it all together.Worth every penny and more. #ILLUS

Comment: I'm going to be honest here. I find it hard to believe that all these ratings are legit. ILLUS has no doubt spent a great deal of effort with this project...the problem is, it's just not as good as these reviews are making it out to be. I'm not hating by any stretch, just trying to keep things real and balanced.

Comment: Looking for grown up Hip Hop? Congratulations, You've found it! What better way to prove that Hip Hop music can be made for a mature, adult audience than a whole album dedicated to family? Illus has a history of making great, positive music. An artist who continually proves that he respects the art, more than the money. On his last 2 projects, the great J.J. Brown produced the complete albums to excellent results. Here, Illus decided to risk having different producers, in fact, each track features a guest who appears on as well as produces the track. The risk paid off, it works perfectly. With legendary Public Enemy producer Johnny Juice overseeing the project, all the tracks are tied to together smoothly. Ill Bill, of Non Phixion/La Coka Nostra fame, provides the gritty opener and title track of the album. That is followed up with "The Gift" featuring a slew of guests, produced by Johnny Juice, this is the true intro to the album. It's hard to point out highlights when an album is as solid as this, however, my personal favorite song is the, anthem like, "Sacrifice" featuring Logic and Godawful, if there's a song here that could be a hit on the radio, it's this one. With guests like J-Live, Blueprint and Chuuwee, this is an underground head's dream come true. And more than just the music, there are other treats here, a simple youtube search will reveal that Illus has put out music videos for nearly every song on the album and I have to feel sorry for those who only download the album because a physical copy includes some brilliant artwork, as well as, what's gotta be the most gangsta cover art in Hip Hop history. The last of these 12 tracks (about a 40 minute journey through Hip Hop heaven) serves as the perfect epilogue, featuring Connecticut legend Apathy, they make sure you know that this is hardly the end, Illus will be around "Forever".

Comment: I first discovered Illus at a GlobalHipHop show back in 2003. I always dug his respect for BBoy Culture. My boy put me on to this record cuz I'm a fan of most of the artists on there, especially Ill Bill, Esoteric & Headsnack. All I can say is this LP is solid from first cut to last. Pick it up. The beats are slamming and the rhymes are heartfelt an tight. Good concept and more of that "Feel Good Music" that Illus is known for.

Comment: Love this album. This is a great example if powerful, meaningful, passionate lyrics over dope beats. There's something for every mood on here. A must have for any HipHop fan.

Comment: I thought this record was going to be good but didn't realize it was going to blow the mercury out the tip. It's heartfelt but also bangs like Shane Diesel breaking your wife. Why this cat isn't more popular is beyond me but it makes sense that cats like Ill Bill & Blueprint throw down with him. The production is tighter than a surgeon stitching up a virgin. Like the other cat said, even though it's different producers, it still flows like SARS through a Hong Kong airport. Favorite tracks were Ill Bill, Apathy & Headsnack!

Comment: On Illus' first major solo project, he defined his whole style: Feel Good Music. Here he continues that theme with an ode to the family. Rather than give you 20 mediocre tracks, He give to 12 songs, about 40 minutes of quality music. Illusís flow is like time traveling back to the late 80ís to Hip Hop golden era, always hopeful, upbeat and positive. Like its predecessor, For Adam, Family First is loaded with guests. Each produces the track they are featured on; they range from J-Live and Apathy to Phashara and Headsnack. None over shadow Illus, instead they compliment his style perfectly and, although there are 12 different producers, this does not sound like a compilation. All the songs are tied together perfectly, with the help of super producer, Public Enemyís Johnny Juice. If you think Hip Hop is dead, this will remind you that itís more alive than ever. If you love good positive music, that you can even listen to with your kids, this is the purchase you should make. I wouldnít lie to you. My favorite cut is the anthem-like, Sacrifice featuring Logic and Godawful.

Comment: This album is awesome because ILLUS is able to present a concept that is dear to us all, Family. It is clearly obvious that the birth of a child inspired this project. I love the guests, the production, and the overall concept. A must BUY!

Comment: I listen to a lot of more hardcore and grimy hip hop and I must say this was an amazing breath of fresh air. Easily the most uplifting album of 2012. If you are into feel good hip hop, this is a must. This really takes me back to when hip hop was about spreading a message. Every track is great from beginning to end. My favorite trackes are "Super Dad" and "Life". Much love for ILLUS.

Comment: Like the above mentions this is a hiphop classic. Illus has proven once again he is a very versatile emcee. an old school rhym scheme with a twist Illus has a style like no other. With features like Blueprint, Ill Bill, Apathy, Godawful, Esoteric and more just makes it that much more of a great hiphop album. Scratches provided by the Great Dj Johnny Juice. This album should not be slept on and if you got love for hiphop pick this up! I assure you will not be dissapointed

Comment: Top to bottom this is an instant HIPHOP classic. The collaborations on this album provide a really nice contrast to the old-school style that ILLUS has perfected. Ill Bill, J-Live and Apathy truly shine in a heavy duty guest list. World class production combined with the illest underground emcees out there combine to bring HIPHOP to a new level. Don't sleep on the deejay work by Johnny Juice, he is a true deejay with the scratches to prove it. I recommend this to anyone looking for REAL HIPHOP with a positive vibe and message. Cop two of these joints and help spread the message! Total thumbs up for ILLUS and "Family First"!
