    Product Details

For this project, music icons and pop culture visionaries JAY-Z and Kanye West have joined their extraordinary talents to form the group 'THE THRONE' and confirm the most anticipated album and touring event of the year, WATCH THE THRONE. The longtime friends and music innovators inspired each other to new heights with their collaboration on WATCH THE THRONE recorded in person at various locations around the world. Over a year in the making and a truly global affair, the duo recorded in London and Bath in the UK, Abu Dhabi, Sydney, Paris, and New York City. Though shrouded in secrecy, the album has already been heralded a 'masterpiece' by those who have heard it, and features production from The RZA, The Neptunes and Kanye's longtime collaborator Mike Dean. The short list of featured vocals includes Frank Ocean, Beyoncé, Curtis Mayfield and Mr. Hudson. The lead track, "OTIS," which premiered over New York radio waves on Wednesday, July 20th night during HOT 97's FunkMaster Flex show, brilliantly weaves Otis Redding's "Try A Little Tenderness."

The production is classic Kanye West soul, with the two MCs trading couplets over a sample manipulated the way only West can. 'Sounds so soulful, don't you agree?" intones JAY-Z, and the two launch into a treatise on swagger, claiming their rightful place at the top. Since the track's release, the flood of praise for the track has been nothing short of deafening. Entertainment Weekly declares the track "the most well-executed rap song of the year.

Both JAY-Z and Kanye West have each appeared as guests on the other's stage, and now they come together for never-before-seen performances not only from their collaboration, WATCH THE THRONE but also songs from their classic catalogue. Fans should stay tuned: several key dates will offer unique opportunities to become a part of the WATCH THE THRONE movement.

Comment: The only reason I would even consider buying this album is because Q-Tip has a verse on one of the songs. Key word here is "consider" not purchase. The beats may be good but what's the point. I've given enough chances to attempting to listen to the mainstream and I always leave disappointed.

Comment: If you are expecting a new "College dropout" or "reasonable doubt" then this album is not for you, but if your expecting a new concept album from jay-z and kanye, with more melodic tracks, then this is for you and it doesn't dissapoint. 1 star is just not serious in my eyes, this is Jay-Z and Kanye West, and just there lyrics on this album should be enough to at least 2 stars.

I mean... am I just plain WRONG????? I can't honestly believe that individually rated postings of the releases of the album got collectively less than 2 stars (by real fans) and WE are the crazy ones. Seems to me that only 38% of the people fell for this trick... the greatest one the devil ever pulled. I thought videos were for teenage girls.

This CD is not even worth dowloading it's relentlessly annoying with the un-complimenting choppy ass good for nothing lyrics. This aint hip hop its Faggot Dick Hop. Hahaha check this LARS guy below, damn 5 stars man for real? If you say so.

This album is rock solid and dare I say the strongest release of the year. As much as I love that new Timbo King, if you love hip hop you can't front on this. Beats are CRAZY and the rhymes are on point. I've been bumpin' it back to back to back. I give this 5 stars and highly recommend it to any music fan. And don't hate on my comment, I'm tellin' the truth. Whether you're Wolf Gang or Wu Tang, you need this one. Big ups Kanye and Jay-z. And once again, THE BEATS ARE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.

Comment: And as for top ten in the last 5... wow. You have obviously been in some type of musically reduced Hova to see this album that way. Honestly... mainstream or not, it sucks. It sounds too mechanical, no love in it. Like going to Gramma's and she opens up a can of Campbells soup right before sending you to buy "fried chicken" from KFC. I apologize for all my rantings and would like you to know that this is directly aimed only at... and is solely a personal attack of your personal taste in music and not the person... unless...

Comment: Oh how I have been waiting for you LARS... to say this very thing. This album sucks. There are no haters here and you know it... what there are are lovers of good music and THIS aint THAT. The single was trash... the subsequent singles will be similarly charged... guilty of being unadulterated wasted demon sperm. Everyone who is a lover of the genre... honestly knows this is not pure. Kanyes production is typical and predictabpe therefore lack luster. Oh... ALL mainstream RAP is trash... all of it... totally. These media whores can have you and your happy band of wagon jumpers. Hip hop aint your home. Peace.

Comment: @donthate, In the words of Common "if I dont like it, I dont like it, it dont mean that im hatin" This is not a discussion of mainstream vs underground, these comments are about the opinions of random hiphop fans about their enjoyment of this product or lack there of. There are some mainstream LP's that I have liked and many so called underground albums that have made me cringe. The question is of quality music that you can enjoy and of course thats just a matter of taste. Yes this is not the worst album to ever come out, I did have an open mind to this project however it simply did not appeal to me and thats ok. If you find something from this album to enjoy then all the best to you, I woudnt call anyone narrow minded or ignorant for their personal taste. This is a forum of public opinion so just take what you want from it. As for your life is too short comment, yes it is, much to short for myself to spend with this project when there is soo much good beautiful positive emotional bangin hiphop music out there that appeals to me much more personally. If this particular LP appeals to you then hey by all means for whatever its worth.. enjoy it.

Comment: i know this site is called 'underground hip hop' but does that really mean that you guys need to hate on EVERYTHING which is mainstream??? just because it's mainstream doesn't make it automatically bad (the same way everything underground is automatically great) ...but you guys are so extremely narrow minded that you don't give anything a chance which ain't underground! I used to be like that...but life's just too short to hate on everything...if you guys would just try to enjoy music instead of hating, you would have more fun in life! are you guys the same when it comes to movies? do you only enjoy arty independent productions ...i doubt it very much! yeah, hollywood makes some crappy BS big budget movies, but so what...they sometimes are still enjoyable if lower your expectations!

Comment: Everybody needs to relax!,I think people are being a little too harse in regards to this album, it not great but its not complete trash. Stop being so close minded, defersity in hiphop is needed, if everybody flowed the same way and all the beats sounded the same, then we would say that there's not enough creativity in hiphop. Some people have a hard time dealing with change, Kanye and Jay Z have changed the game, hate it or love it!

Comment: I really do not understand the reason for this album to exist. Ive never been big fans of either but they have made some quality stuff in the past. They have accomplished so much in the mainstream pop rap world already so I just dont get why they woudnt come together and put out a aunthetic quality sounding hiphop LP to please the long time intelligent hiphop fans that might of abandoned them before and not just cater to the teeny boppers and club hopper crowds once again. For all those who like to bring up the golden era conversation, to me the golden era of hiphop is still here, I believe that the indy hiphop scene has been stronger now then it has ever been, thanks to easy access to advance technologies and the rise of the internet. Besides the obvious increase in free downloads, indy labels have more control and power in the final product. The confusing part is with all this "hiphop is dead" b.s, what is meant by that is hiphop is dead on mainstream outlets like corporate television and radio. In the words of prozack turner "hiphop has never been dead, u just bought the wrong wax" This coudnt be more true for myself, the hiphop scene has been just as good now as in the 90's, in fact I think there is more good music now then that period. You just have look a little deeper than the usual mediums that dominated that so called golden era... In closing mainstream abysmal albums like this need to exist as a mantle piece for a reminder to the fans of all the other wonderful pieces of hiphop music that has been created over the last few decades. If anything I hope this album makes you appreciate the wonderful world of hiphop culture that has touched me so much during my lifetime, keep diggin it!

Comment: okay, so I actually listened to this whole album front to back (so far, I doubt anyone here who gave a "review" of this album did). I was a fan of Kanye's producing on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and the beats on this album are very similar. nice high profile names like RZA & Pete Rock are on this, bur surprisingly, they didnt have my favorite tracks on this album. my favorite tracks on this album were Gotta Have It and the 2nd Half of Murder To Excellence. there is excessive autotune on this album, but Kanye incorporated them to the point where I almost didnt even notice (except the autotuned sample on New Day which still really fit and despite being autotuned, still sounded very soulful). The only songs that I felt I can honestly say were really wack were Lift Off, H.A.M., Illest Motherfucker Alive and Why I Love You. other than that, production-wise anyway, its a solid album. the lyrics sounded really dumbed down on some tracks and as rappers they definitely didnt put their all into their album. lyrically, both Jay-Z and Kanye are better than this. but the flows for the most part were straight, the beats had my head nodding, and its a good album to play in my car. a lot of tracks had tons of replay value while others I just dumped into my recycle bin. but overall it's a very listenable album. could've been a whole lot better, but still not bad.

Comment: If you took Jay Z from Reasonable Doubt and Kanye West as a top producer era (Common's BE album, Dilated Peoples, etc.) then this would have been a quality CD. Instead it appeals to the commercial mainstream audience and all equates to bullshit with extra flies. I mean just break down the basic flaw of this CD is all of the autotone songs (Jay Z, what happend to Death to Autotone?) and rhyming about how much money you have and where you are in the world is just plain sad. I cant wait untill Black Star 2 comes out and if people have even half a brain will realize that real hip hop comes from the heart and not from the corporate driven mind.

Comment: I love when wack material likes this comes out and all the new jacks eat it up! It just tell me that I need to continue to support that raw underground sound and keep listening to those real artists! Hip hop aint dead you just have to look for it a little harder nowadays. Some artist like Jay need to know when to hang it up. We'll respect you more if you would just run your businesses and leave the music to the hungry cats coming up. And Kanye, his production can be soulful and well put together at times but once you start complaining about who won what award and what album got over looked and just start girlin' out on everything, that's when you loose us real hip hop fans. Excuse me while I sit back and listen to my Timbo King that just came in the mail today! Wish I could have got that at my local Best Buy in a deluxe edition!!

Anyone who brags about how much they Shinin is pretty much bitting everything Biggie and Pac has already said. it's time for Hip Hop to grow up and become Mature instead of going backwurds. The album cover is supposed to give you a sense of awre and sophistication when there is none of this in the lyrics. Notice how Nas and damien marley do an album and the proceeds go to helping Afrika. Notice when Vinnie paz and Ill Bill OR Buckshot and KRS-one did an album it was for that Raw underground love of Hip Hop. Eminem and Royce's album was like a polar opposite to this album by Kanye and jay Z. In true representation of the Art form of Hip Hop

Comment: I am beyond convinced that they put out a weak album ON PURPOSE to see who would be dumb enough to not know the difference between a good album and a piece of haphazardly thrown together piece of turd (which WTT actually is). This is what rich people do when they are bored. They fuck with the minds of the people who they feel are below them. (non luxury people) they are probably sitting in a hotel room giggling their asses off saying to each other " Tee Hee Hee.. Watch, we are going to sell 500k of this crap and we didnt have to even try" - I didn't fall for the swindle and I salute those others who didn't either. Those who did, WAKE UP!!

Comment: @TheU I am also glad that they got so many negative reviews. It shows me that people are FINALLY waking up out of their trance and seeing this album for what it really is : A test of the consumers intelligence to see who knows the difference between good shit and wack shit. They dropped this pile of turd to see who would be dumb enough to buy it and stand up for it. I doesn't take a genius to see they put no effort whatsoever in making this album and are getting lazy because they are so rich, they dont have to "try". They are not artists, they are spoiled rotten sheisters and swindlers seeking out the weak minded to get them paid. Another case of the reverse robin hood theory: The rich stealing from the poor. I salute those who have the brains enough to know this album is WEAK!

Comment: It isn't enough to call real HipHop fans Haters. That's not quite enough... you should also explain what makes this music good. If they are doing what they love and this is HipHop then I haven't been listening correctly. If they loved it then they wouldn't be waiting to sell out 100,000 seat arenas and in need of dancers and pyrotechnic techs and rope swings and rising platforms and outfit changes and eccentric clothes and glitter and sequins and trend-forming accessories... know WHY... because people like me don't give a PHUK about $hit like that. My eyes are closed most of the time as I feel the live version of my favorite cut. Not only that but I need to see the artist ROCK the phukkin mic and not be distracted by his lip-syncing and forgetting part of the song's wholly relevant lyrics. They DON'T love this music anymore. The cats I want to see are in a smaller venue and they love their fans. You know WHY, because we as fans LOVE this music. You shouldn't have your favorite artist be someone who bangs in the club converting your teenage daughters to whores while you sing along led blindly to your doom by industry bamboozelry. No one is "hating" ON these cats… we just hate them… because they suck… because they… DO! See what I did there? No… well anyway, I hope you all got your free posters, soap on a rope and artist trademarked jizz-paste to brush the cum off your teeth.

The economy's tight and they gotta make money and I'm pretty sure this album will sell. Will I be buying this? Yeah right. I stopped listening to Jay-Z after his last good album(Reasonable Doubt)and I was never interested in Kanye's flow because I find it irritating. His delivery puts me in the mind of some character from a kids show because it almost sounds like he wants to break out in song or recite a nursery rhyme. I'll be glad to rock my "Kanye Can't Rap" T-Shirt when this comes out. Wackness is necessary so I can silence know-it-alls when they attempt to compare artists like these guys with the ones I listen to.

If it ain't then what the fuck is??? That sounds like some shit Madlib, Dilla or MF Doom would get on. Songs 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 15, and 16 ALL have samples used. Yall sleepin on this album but I rest my case.

Comment: lol, yall are funny. 88-Keys, Rza, Q-Tip and Pete Rock all got placements on this highly commercial album and yall wanna say its not hip hop?? Whats not hip hop about Rza, Q-Tip and Pete phuckin Rock??? Give the album a listen 1st. Of course they got their pop influenced synth/electro soundin ish, thats expected. But listen to the base of most of the best songs...its sampled records from crated diggers gettin the illest loops they could find. Thats still the cream and the essence of this music. Kanye and Jay know that, but its 2011 and they want to appeal to a WIDE variety of ppl so they had to experiment and go a lil left field too. This is a great album and no i'm not a spoiled, coke snortin white kid who swears by wayne/drake and all that pop rap ish. I'm a true hip hop head, right after I dl'd watch the throne I got Willie Evans jr and was lookin for that Timbo King. Its just funny to see yall get all emotional over these 2 dudes doin what they love. Hip Hop is alive and well, if you don't like this album don't play it. Hell no it ain't undergound but its great music. Lift Off is the only wack song imo If you don't like The Joy then I quesion if you really like authentic hip hop anyway.

Comment: Crazy thing is this will be the most anticipated album by b!tches and pu$$ies alike. Like, "I can't wait until I get a sandy, shattered glass dusted, $hit dipped COCK rammed striaght up my dry a$$ as I help these ego-whores to further fame by standing in some line to cop this like it is their farewell concert to the world."... or something like that. Who the PHUK wants this BULL$HIT???? What a piece of phukkin' over inflated collaborative piece of pure rotten maggot filled trash. I want to shed actual tears for the commerical that this a$$ ramming is going to become. They played the first single on the raido a couple of weeks ago (my wife actually called me and told me to listen… because I WOULDN'T have) and I puked until my shell-toes we covered. What a phukkin' JOKE. "...them n!ggas got cash though..." STFU... it's YOUR cash IDIOT… and you funded your own pimping!!!!!
