Comment: I bought this album for songs #2,3,4 and 5. The rest of it was garbage but whatever. 4 Solid songs made me happy. Unfortunately, I can see less and less good songs coming out of Jay-Z ever since the "Watch the throne" album dropped. There wasn't 1 single good song on that album. Either Jay-Z is going to put out his next album and its going to be worse than WTT or he's going to pull himself up from his bootstraps and make a good album.. but I don't think he'll do the latter. He's rich and rich people get lazy. Their hunger dissapears so sadly, i'm expecting Blueprint 3 to be the last semi-great work he did. And this is coming from a longtime fan who just can't support his less than satisfactory work.

Comment: I like Jay-Z, but not this joint. Dude has lost it over the years, and it shows. There's some good songs on here, like D.O.A., Empire State of Mind, & Run This Town. On Run This Town, Kanye UPSTAGED Jay Hova on his own shit. And that's kinda the problem here- Jay-Z used to be the dude who could save an song with a good verse, but he's getting upstaged by most of the rappers on this, save for Young Jeezy & Pharrell. The singers are decent for the most part, but I ain't gonna check for em. The beats ain't half bad, like Empire State of Mind or D.O.A., but some of the beats sound like radio watered down crap, and it's a bitch to listen to- especially Swizz Beatz's shit. Jay-Z's done good in the past, but here, I think Jigga fell off. This ain't no Black Album, Blueprint, or Reasonable Doubt. There's some good joints on here, but it ain't worth buying the whole CD.

Comment: A yo LARS... LOL I asked you earlier... puttin' commercial sales aside, to give me any 50 Cent song better than Jay-Z's "D.O.A.", and you gave me some HORRIBLE examples! First off, you oughta know damn well "Hate It or Love It" is The Game's song featuring the rapper 50 Cent. That song would have did just as well WITHOUT 50, maybe better. The rest of those songs have good mainstream appeal, but they are definitely are not lyrically better. "I Get Money" was ASS, period. "In Da Club" is an excellent Dr. Dre instrumental, which any mediocre rapper could've spit on it to make it an instant hit. Em or Obie would've ripped it better. "Many Men" is a pretty decent song with a cool bassline, but definitely NOT better than "D.O.A." That particular song, along with the video, is only as good as it embodies the HOMO-EROTISM of his fanbase. I say that with conviction because people, dudes and ladies, are attracted mostly to his "Superman" gangsta image, pictures of him flashin' off his chest and saggin' pants, and also the over-exaggerations of him being shot 9 times and surviving. As for Jay-Z's "D.O.A.", it's a song that's lyrically mediocre, but makes a strong stance for Hip-Hop... "I don't be in the project hallway / talkin' bout how I be in the projects all day / That sound stupid to me / if you a gangsta, this is how you prove it to me." Now back to that list. Give me ANY 50 Cent song, ANY album, that has any REAL relevance to anything goin' on in the world today... that is better than "D.O.A." Until you can do that, THEN I will hear your argument of the Before I Self Destruct album being better than The Blueprint 3 album. Jay-Z's worst is better than 50 Cent's best...

Comment: That's WEAK! The Blueprint 3 is not Jay-Z's greatest, but I know for SURE that the rapper 50 Cent isn't even in the same ballpark lyrically or beat-wise. You could put up Jay's WORST against the BEST from the rapper 50 Cent and it would embarrass the hell out of the fabricated image that Mr. Jackson is. Putting commercial sales aside - Name a 50 song, ANY album, BETTER than "D.O.A." by Jay-Z. Let's be realistic...

Comment: LOL 50 Cent?! Are you serious? Classic bar from Jay-Z... "I'm all about a dollar / what the fuck is 50 cents!" From that list you just gave, of course, Nas is top dog, then Sigel, then Jay, then the many many other REAL New York MC's, then the New York Giants, then one of the bums sleeping under the bridge, THEN finally the rapper 50 Cent. The Blueprint 3 doesn't hit consistently like American Gangster, but it's a hella better effort than that shit ass Before I Self Destruct album.

To me Nasir Jones is the King of New York and Hip hop. Nas puts out classic after classics. The only one that wasn't a classic was Nastradamus. Can't wait to get that R.E.D. Album. Its on the way!! Comment: I respect your opinion LPAC. Yeah Hip Hop Is Dead was a miss-target for a lot of people, but it served as a mild intro to the Nigger album, kinda like a strong breeze before a rough thunderstorm. I'ma stop talking up here about a off subject topic. Jay-Z's The Blueprint 3 is worth a listening to, but not worth buying... Peace

Comment: Streets disciple should have been cut down to one cd man and that could have been a great album, but 'hiphop is dead' was such a dissapointment, for an album from Nas with that title you would expect production from premo, pete rock, large pro etc etc, not some no name wack producers and he wasnt really saying what was wrong with hiphop apart from a couple of tracks, I was really looking forward to that album till I listened to it, and the 'N' wasnt all that really, but thats just my opinion man

Comment: I love all of Nas's albums, but it's because I feel everything he be saying. His beats have usually always been mediocre, so his words fall deaf on a lot of ears. His only couple of slumps is Nastradamus and I Am... He went a little commercial, but I think he saw that wasn't his avenue. His comeback year was Stillmatic (fuck up ya soul like Ether LOL), and after that, everything stayed relevant to me. I understand why some people don't like him, but I still liked all his albums afterwards. On God's Son, he was rebounding after the death of his mother. Street's Disciple, he was on his grown man shit, marrying Kelis. Hip Hop Is Dead fell short on a lot of listeners, but Nigger (and yes that's the true name of the album) is one of his bests because of the concepts and subject matter. He went hard on a lot of issues from Fox News to "ringtone" rap to a whole revision of the definition of the N word. Originally Hip Hop Is Dead was supposed to be the Nigger album, it was too little soon to drop the truth on people...

Comment: For your information LPAC, I copped Raekwon's OB4CL 2 on the day it came out. I already gave it my rating on UGHH (which I love the album) before you made your retort up here. Check posting and time if you don't believe me... Now back to the original topic. I'm not even a big Jay-Z fan, I'm actually a bigger fan of Nas. 3 stars is my UNBIASED rating and opinion of The Blueprint 3. It has SOME songs in which I don't care for, and SOME songs in which I can't deny are hot. As far as American Gangster is concerned, you might need to open your ears a little more and absorb the subject matter of the album. Sure it's got a little Pop here and there, he's a MAINSTREAM artist. But there's no way in hell MTV is gonna let Jay-Z get up at the VMA's, talkin about "...And if Al Sharpton is speaking for me / Somebody get him the word and tell him I don't approve / Tell him I'll remove the curses / If you tell me our schools gon be perfect / When Jena 6 don't exist / Tell him that's when I'll stop saying bitch---BIIITCH!" LOL i'm sorry, NOT pop material

Comment: I agree Reasonable Doubt was his best album (it was his first, the same with a lot of artists), but American Gangster is definitely on the top of his discography, along with Vol. 2: Hard Knock Life. I don't mean to be rude but... "I Know", "Party Life", "Ignorant Shit" with Beans, "Say Hello", "Success" with Nas, oh my God "Blue Magic" with Pharrell... Comment: Honestly, I thought D.O.A. was a sample of things to come from Young Hove and was hesitantly excited. Unfortunately, the first track validated my realistic expectations. I always thought he was nice but not as great as most of the BK d*ck riders and the Jay-z nut hangers blow him up to be. I don't know how anyone who really loves Hip-Hop can honestly and sincerely even mentally put thoughts together that would assemble as a statement saying that this $h*t is that official $h*t. This is pop garbage. As a DJ, there are a few track I will have to bang but this will not earn ANY play in my whip or crib. And since most people who cop these commercial pieces of art are easily amused by the simplest of things, they will swear by their unborn seeds that are still swimming in their nut sacks that this $h*t is official. It's official alright- an official, yet expected disappointment. I'm afraid to listen to it a second time like Mr Cheek's first album. I gave it 2 stars just because he got skillz. I don't even know why this is even on this site like Weezy's album... but cop that "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II" for that official $h*t!

I wouldn't even wipe my own a** with this piece of garbage, but then again if record sales determine hiphop status he's killin everybody at the moment and thats a sad thing. I'm particularly shocked that no I.D (a talented chicago producer)was associated with this junk but hey life goes on.

Comment: Yeah full of commercial rap. he can still put together rhymes, just not what ppl wanna hear from em. a few of solid beats...only a few. production damn near as bad as common last album. "Empire sate of mind" is nice... only cause Alicia was so strong on it. She made that that shit powerful. Rhianna whack. her nasty ass singing killed that song. I don't know why jay-z can't be a rapper that in the 35-40 range that is still displaying real skill. Wu-Tang, BCC and many more. LARS, do you dog everything. Damn near every board I see ya name on, you hatin hard.

Comment: Majority of people on here are caking it on thick about his album sucking. I think I can speak for everyone Being respectful just by saying......His Album is a Big Disappointment....I think we all had high expectations for this one to drop, but before people start throwing more daggers at him; understand that he had alot of other songs that were supposed to go on the album, but a plain ride back to the states from Europe before the album release date; he lost his ipod with about 30 songs to choose from to be on this album, so he had to throw something together. He did not make the best choices of songs, he himself saying the same thing hoping for another hit record, so for the record I will give him Respectfully 3 out of 5 stars; 2 of the stars for being the euntrapanuer he is today and 1 for the album....

Comment: I feel what gaijin was sayin. sometimes we do have assholes in america. hip hop is universal so everyone in america gotta respect that. it's a beautiful form of hip hop once we see everyones point of view. Jay-Z album is descent but it's really hit or miss. some good songs and some definitely music friendly gay songs. overall it's descent. but being a jay-z fan it's tough to accept it as being something he usually makes. but hey he's been making album after album. he has a 100 comments so far about how he's good or garbage. he has to be doing something right.

Comment: This album is TERRIBLE. I am thinking of suing Jay Z for harming my eardrums and forming a class action suit for jerking his fans. I am a Jay Z fan. But this shyt Sean Carter, is WACK!! The beats are wack, the rhymes are wack and the concept is wack. Jay Z is phukking up his legacy with this BS. He keeps doing this every other album. He has one hot album and then the next one is wack..he had a lil hot streak with Streets is Watching, Lifetime Vol.2, Dynasty and Blueprint...but outside those albums, he makes garbage such as Lifetime Vol.1, Kingdom Come, Blueprint 2 , 2.1 & 3...Jay Z man, you are killing yourself...I would stop now before forever destroy your image.

Comment: To understand this album, I think you have to first understand that the word “blueprint” isn’t referring to a “back to basics” approach. It’s also not a callback to the last two Blueprint albums; a lot of the hate directed at The Blueprint 3 centers around how it sounds nothing like Blueprints 1 and 2. Jay-Z is attempting to move forward, to evolve, to innovate. “Blueprint” refers to Jay creating something new, a template that lesser artists will invariably follow. So what does “innovation” look like to one of the greatest emcees of all time? Pretty much the same ol’ shit, except with more synthesizers. In hip hop, “that next level shit” is almost always based around how the music sounds—crazy flow patterns, weird time signatures, funny voices/accents, new instruments or samples, etc. Very rarely do artists try to innovate by actually saying something new, by digging deeper into themselves or telling new stories or trying new approaches to writing or whatever. Jay is a prime example of this. Yes, The Blueprint 3 has some unique production, some wild rhyme patterns and an overall futuristic vibe. But that doesn’t change the fact that it’s still just Jay-Z rapping about how great Jay-Z is… like he’s been doing for thirteen years. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, especially if you enjoy listening to Jay-Z be Jay-Z (I generally do). But for an album completely based around the idea that it’s something mind-blowingly new and innovative, the whole experience is rather hollow. That being said, The Blueprint 3 is still a Jay-Z album and Jay is still a brilliant technical emcee. He sounds hungry here, especially on the album’s opener, “What We Talkin’ About.” Throughout the album, his flow is hypnotic; where some good rappers have air-tight flows you can just zone out to, Jay commands your attention using his words, the negative space between them and even his ad libs. The hooks, unfortunately, are all pretty terrible (especially on “Thank You,” “Venus vs. Mars” and “Reminder,” which is probably the album’s worst track), but the verses more or less make up for that. Jay might not be saying anything new, but the new ways in which he says everything is always compelling.

Comment: I listened to the samples. Well, it isn't a bad album from what I've sampled on here. I wouldn't bump this in the car whatsoever, maybe at a houseparty or some shit. That Young Forever track sounds like it should have been played at the prom on Napolean Dynamite for real. The audience he's clearly doing this for is the mainstream pop culture and not the underground. Do your thang though, if that gets you paid, then fuck it. As for me, I'M GLAD I CHOSE OB4CL2 over this. Shit, I didn't even think twice about which album honestly when I was in the store.

Comment: A complete waste of talent. The production on this album is at best, pathetic. Jay-z no longer makes hip hop albums. And it's unfortunate. Again, so much talent. Absolutely no representation of it. As soon as I noticed the absence of Produced By: DJ Premier or Produced by: 9th Wonder or even Produced By: Jay Dee, I knew it was going to be yet another disappointing effort from Mr. Carter.

Comment: Jay-Z is on point as usual, but the production is hit or miss. And when it misses, it miss big! Why does Swizz Beatz still have a career? His shit has ALWAYS SUCKED!!! I say again, ALWAYS SUCKED!!!! Kanye is great, but when he is off his game things go terribly wrong. I can always depend on the Neptunes, when they are not to high. Timbaland is consistent but predictable. It is good to see No I.D. back in the game(thanks Kanye). All in all a solid CD, but nothing special. You figure a guy with this much stock in the game would have the balls to try something ground breaking, or at least different.

Comment: I am an underground hip hop head but I have grown to like mainstream as well because that shit gets things popping at the clubs and at parties as well. This album is sick, I love it. The beats are hard, why because Kanye produced most of them. To me Kanye is a way better producer than rapper, in fact he is one of the best hip hop producers out there. As far as comparing this album to his earlier shit, that is just ridiculous, were in the year 2009, not 1996! Times change and so does music, but to me Jay-Z still keeps it real especially with that track "A Star is Born" where he gives props to hip hop Legends like NAS, Mobb Deep,Outkast,Wu-Tang and many more. I especially love the lyric Jay-Z spits on the track "As Real As it Gets" where he spits "that's why they feel me in the favelas of Brazil!" That's some sick shit, not too many people know the social inequalities and harsh poverty that is felt in the favelas/slums of Brasil. Although this album can be considered mainstream it is still a bangin release. It is nearly impossible for a hip hop legend/icon to release an album that is underground. The thing is there are a lot of haters out there. Kudos to Jay-Z on this release and mad props to Kanye, No I.D.( a True Chicago legend), Timbaland and Swizz Beatz for great beats for this album. By the way all music artists evolve with time, look at Madonna and Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson's album "Bad" is completely different than his first major album "Off The Wall" that was released in the late seventies. That does not mean the latter album is wack. Just food for thought for everybody. Peace

Comment: yeah..enough is enough...I am tired of Jay Z now...he needs to retire. He is now living the high life as a business man. He has lost touch with the people now. His music is taking a strange direction and it's time to pack it up. I cannot imagine the hottest hip hop rhymes being written as Jay Z sits in the back of his chauffer driven Maybach while Beyonce's face is in his lap as he sips Champange and smokes a cuban. This is not like any other music form with the exception of Rock. Rock and Hip Hop both need the right mix of real life influnces to reach the people..unfortunately...Jay Z's head is somewhere in the French Alps rather than Marcy projects. Don't get me wrong, it is not a bad thing for Jay Z to get out of the hood, as that was the ultimate goal. However, the music has suffered, so maybe he should concentrate on something other than recording songs. He is flucking up his legacy, much like MJ when he joined the Wizards. Jay Z would have left a better taste in the mouth if he stopped with The Black Album as he annouced his retirement. (American Gangster was a solid album, but I could have lived without it).

Its hard for some of these artist these day to reach a younger audience base especialy Mc's. DOA is a message and a very strong one that I know a lot of Hip Hop Heads have been thinking for the past 3-4 years enough is enough.

Comment: I don't give a fuck what you'll say this is gonna be a good album. I've heard most of it, and can't front. This shouldn't be on a underground site because clearly it aint underground, but it is what it is: dope commercial hip-hop. And yes there is a such thing. It is possible to like commercial and underground hiphop, you just have to know the difference and seperate the two. Stop thinking so white and black and see the colors like Elzhi say...Kanye is still fresh ya'll can hate all you want. He is still one of the best producers in the game. The beats he does on this album are fire. Commercial or not...and DOA is just a statement record. He's just saying he don't like that shit, but he aint gonna hate on T-Pain or anything like that. Why the fuck would he?...Nice to see Ye' bringing in No I.D. cause he from chicago and was producing before him

Comment: Sean I can see that accordian, you know the same one that you used to play mexican music on the subway for pennies with your homies from the bronx...tooo ashamed to do it in your hometown of Boston...btw...how does it feel to get swept by the Yankees for 4 games? I guess there will be no baseball in Boston in Oct..LOL! Back to the topic...I know you get nice and wet just thinking about Kenny G playing that sax in the corner...While I was killing the Technics 1200, you were still playing old 78's on that phonograph at granma's house...When Large Pro was laying down dopeness with Main Source with the reel to reel, you were watching the Magic Garden and the two chics strumming along on the aucustic guitar. While I was making pause tapes with the slimline panasonic boom box, you were playing twinkle, twinkle little star on the casio. DON'T MESS WITH ME SON!!!

Jay Z, why don't you just stay courtside with Beyonce or Tah-Tah(i really stabbed Ub at the Kit Kat Klub & mased R Kelly in MSG) at your owener's courtside seats with the Net's and lick Lebrons 'sack when he comes to beat the be-jesus out of the Nets...

Comment: Ya he knows he's getting old and just might try to sell whatever he can. However I still can't see a whole Hov album just being ALL candy and shit. He might be high society now, but hopefully he hasn't forgot where he came from. Commercial or not I still like Kanye and his production. It's gonna be commercial, but it is what it is.

Comment: I agree with the LARS... From what i've heard/read, Kanye produced the entire album. Now, back in the day when Kanye was producin' tracks for Jay under the radar, those were the ill type beats! NOWADAYS, kanye is producing some wack stuff, some "futuristic, fresh new sound" that, imo, i'm not feelin'. Like, "Run This Town"...that song is just for the mainstream lovers, strictly! Rhianna, Kanye, Jay-Z can't be happening...It's cool with Kanye/Rhianna, cuz Kanye is pop, and i'm done with him for that...but Jigga, c'mon, don't be strictly mainstream! Where's Primo?! Ski?! Just Blaze!? I HOPE what I read about the tracklisting is wrong and it's NOT ALL KANYE...i can just imagine what it's going to sound like, all radio'd out bullshit. I HOPE kanye makes bangers, I hope..

Comment: Jay Z is my dude but he lost me with Blueprint 2, Blueprint 2.1, and Kingdom Come. He managed to save face with the American Gangster album (hot!!!)....But Hov, man come on...let's get it together. Let em start with the album title...BLUEPRINT...Ok..maybe Blueprint vol.1 was your magnum opus, HOWEVER...Blueprint 2 was TERRIBLE! Then you tried to smooth it over by taking the so called best tracks from disc 1 and 2 of BP2 and do a BP2.1...WHAT???? NGGGGGA PLZZZZ!!!! Don't ever do that shyt again! You tried to play us and get a mulligan for releasing that bullshyt in the first place...a duet with Lenny (i smell so badly) Kravitz??? C'mon man...that was laaaaammmme! So many missteps on that release that the name Blueprint has been soiled. I think you should try something else. I love DOA off of BP3, but what the fluck is up with that new Kanye and Rhianna track?? That's llllaaaammmme! You are killing me with these guest appearnces...that whole Coldplay guest thing on Kingdom Come did not work..NEVER DO THAT SHYT AGAIN EITHER..You look like a complete FOOL when you did this one live on an awards show with Chris Martin on the piano. Hov, stop trying to get all "brand new" with the fans...we don't go to France and sip bubbly with high soceity, we don't race Ferrari's with NASCAR greats, we don't even bang out R&B chics (ever since this dude fell in love with Beyonce, he has become a hoe -azz Nukka)...Jay, I hope this album is a banger for your sake because you are one brick away from retirement. You are 40 years old and running around jocking Lebron James like Ahmad Rashad did to Jordan in the 90's....stop it Shawn...just stop it...You starting to look like a groupie.
