Item Summary
After working with Jazz Spastiks last year for the Internet viral single "Hot Shit!", Queens NY emcee Junclassic has teamed up once again with the UK production duo for a full album of jazzy hip-hop entitled Mode 7. Penned by the makers of the Nintendo video game system, the technical term Mode 7 is a graphics mode on the old Super Nintendo Entertainment System that enabled it to scale and rotate pixels in the background layer, allowing the system to perform features seemingly beyond it's capabilities which created the illusion of a 3D environment.

"We saw a parallel between this and our own music, creating a lo-fi sound that is beautiful despite of or even because of it's limitations," explains Murray Mackay of Jazz Spastiks. With that in mind, Jazz Spastiks and Junclassic set to work on the 7 songs (plus 3 interludes) you hear on this album, attempting to create something that is bigger than the sum of it's parts. Recorded and produced over the course of just two weeks, the 'mode' also represents the common frame of mind Jazz Spastiks and Junclassic entered together to complete this project. Standout tracks such as "Bust Ya Melon," "Times" and "Stunnin" display the lyrical integrity of Junclassic, as well as the musical prowess of the Jazz Spastiks.

About Junclassic:
Queens emcee Junclassic began his musical career in 1997 as one half of the duo Dynamix with fellow emcee K-Sise. With the success of their Shock & Awe mixtape series from 2000-2002 and after meeting with MF GRIMM, the duo was inducted into the Monsta Island Czars collective. Junclassic branched out on his own as a solo artist in 2007. His second album, Overqualified, received worldwide magazine and Internet press and was widely praised for its creativity and uniqueness. Currently separated from the Monsta Island Czars, Junclassic has a total of 5 solo albums under his belt with more great music on the way.

About Jazz Spastiks:
Scotland, U.K. beat makers, Jazz spastiks have become established in the underground hip hop scene through their recognizable jazzy, sample-based sound which is often compared to the likes of Pete Rock and A Tribe Called Quest. Collaborating with vocalists from all over the world, they have worked with artists such as Count Bass D, Atari Blitzkrieg, C-Rayz Walz and Vast Aire. Their second album 12 Bit Spit was released in 2010 through Godsendant Music to much praise and continues to sell well. Two of the tracks from the album were featured on #7 of world famous DJ Mark Farina's Mushroom Jazz series.

Comment: I've never heard of Junclassic or Jazz Spastiks before hearing this collaboration but, The whole vibe of this LP just made me a fan of these cats. I've been starving a bit lately for good hip-Hop LP's. Just something you can throw on and just bob ya head to without having to hit the skip button. This Mode 7 album is food for the soul.
