Product Details

Extended anniversary 2CD deluxe edition includes the original Key To The Kuffs CD in specialty packaging. CDX version is limited to 2,000 units in the US. Butter Edition details: this version taps new friends, collaborators and remixers. Most notably - Beck, Badbadnotgood, Del and Clams Casino, each adding their sound to the depth of the Deluxe Butter Edition.

The Butter version is an expanded version of last years Key To The Kuffs – a collaborative album from (MF) DOOM and Jneiro Jarel. The album is DOOM's third consecutive studio album for Lex and follows on from his previous work with JJ on tracks in 2007 and 2010. The Sunday Times called the album "brilliant", Thom Yorke said 'Guv'nor' was his favourite track of 2012, Spin touted 'Banished' as one of the years lyrical highlights, and Nate Patrin at Pitchfork wrote that DOOM was "No less quotable than he was in '99... heavy on the diabolical brainiac grifter guise that's fueled his post-KMD creativity for some 15 years, balancing knowledge and absurdity like a master."

In 2012 after DOOM turned in the masters for Key To The Kuffs, he carried on working on the project. Rather than put the breaks on and start saving up new material for a new album that might never come out we decided to keep it coming. The first new track was a long overdue collab with Del. Then he ripped heavy new JJ beats 'Bookhead' and 'Pause Tape'. Then he totally reworked 'Guv'nor' over a BBNG megabanger, dropping science about the very real threat of reptilian devourment. And we all know about the alternative version of the Bookhead with Clams Casino that was snuck out in May.

Lyrically all the new collabs are tied in to the JJ DOOM album, so it made sense to put them together with the alt versions of (the Cockney rhyming-slang free) 'Rhymin Slang' and the reflective diss track 'Retarded Fren'. The collection of tracks on the Butter version includes 4 brand new JJ DOOM tracks plus 4 alternative versions by collaborators Clams Casino, Thom Yorke & Jonny Greenwood, BADBADNOTGOOD and Dave Sitek and a nasty remix by Beck. The art has been reworked by Steve Powers (aka ESPO) and includes his new Bookhead icon created for the 'Bookhead' video he directed earlier this year.

Comment: Ro-ro got a point! NOONE born after 1980 should be allowed to critique Doom's music from this point on! The other kid deserves to get stoned to death after talking smack about the Michael Jordan of rap! The remixes are dark, gritty, & stiffer than a Flair chop to the chest! Need I say more?

Comment: while the initial JJ Doom album didn't recreate the wheel, it was solid, though it paled to Born Like This. the 9 bonus tracks offered here w/ this deluxe edition totally bump this to a waaay higher echelon, all 9 trax are fiiiiyahhh. don't pay attention to other dude's comment - the Thom Yorke remix sounds absolutely nothing like dubstep, and it's a fuckin heater!

Comment: I was not impressed by this album at all. I love Dr. Who dat, and I love Doom from a decade ago, but this is just flat. That Thom Yorke remix sounds like bad dubstep. did I mention dubstep is fucking trash. I have officially given up on Doom ever being dope again.

Comment: Id like to see DOOM collaborate with Prince Paul on some 3 feet high and rising type of flava or maybe with Dan The Automator on a full length album. Knowing that Dr. Who Dat AKA Jneiro Jarel who was featured on the Low End Theory LA like Daedelus or Afta-1 or Fly Lo maybe I would anticipate this album and know what to expect especially from a electronic experimental prespective. im assuming some Hip Hop heads arent aware of the side of Hip Hop that involves electronic music IDM the UK shit etc like Herbalizer or the Unsung Heros or maybe Kidkanevil etc. so im not surprised of what others say, its part of its own evolution innovation.

Comment: I was definitely excited to know that Doom was releasing some new shit but this CD is basically ass. I'm sorry I tried to get into it, and I just can't. There are about 3 decent tracks on there but the rest is just down right boring. The skits are just down right stupid as well. Very disappointed….

Comment: these days there aint no middle man if the artist decides to put it out straight to digital distribution (mp3s) and these days there is almost no such thing as an A & R (example: Dante Ross) unless the artist is signed to a major label. its always a matter of quality vs quantity, true musicians with a good sense of musicality is quality VS major labels who are money hungry and to add to that, the artist compromises to standards where it automatically BLOWS UP AND GOES POP as if it were rigged, even if the major label pays a ghostwriter to write lyrics for the artist (taboo for true emcees), and even if it sounds stupid and the artist makes a fool of them selves and all that matters is the quantity of units selling and going platinum. And it comes to show How poor and desperate mainstream Rap (not Hip Hop) is. Now theres just one bad thing about digital distribution and no A & Rs, anyone can put out material even if it sounds horrible and even if the audience dont know what DOPE Is (like a drug). The A & R is suppose to be like a pharmacist who develops the potency of the artist to hit the sweet spots of the audience assuming there is an addiction. Its sad that nowadays that sweet spot changes so quickly because digital downloading of music scatters that sweet spot all over the place that it lacks that concentrated focus. so now that DOPE-ness is just a one hit wonder and this is bad for the culture trying to stay pure. but if its sampled music and the audience wants to delve into the past and then forms an addiction to the raw form of music the samples came from, then thats another way the sweet spot for DOPE-ness can be refocused now that music is easily accessible at a digital level assuming the raw form of sampled DOPE-ness in its pure form is available. Now who gets the gasface?... its still the major label that are money hungary and are also suffering from free digital download. These days artists with the musicality shouldnt worry about sellin music as the music will speak for its self, and most likely its slept on with the majority thinking mainstream music is the best thing they ever heard. As long as the underground stays pure and concentrated that the culture of fans will always stay up on that DOPE-ness.

Comment: TheBall is the new LARS...always talkin and nobody cares. Go die in a corner. That's my opinion. Doom is a certified crack head. Those that know know. Those that don't, still put this lazy fuck on a pedestal. JJ was the least of my complaints on this. Doom is better than this. Put down the pipe homie. We still love you Pookie.

Comment: I am actually feeling the beats. Banished is RIDICULOUS!!!!!! Just do it again. I don't know. We are all right, we are all wrong, but I am still listening like its the first time I heard it. I believe JJ captured the man and the man chose the porducer. He could have chosen ANYBODY, but the DOOM I love is suited to psychadelic. He was transported here. True lyrically but we will never get a DOOM Dilla joint. Can't happen. It feels to me like at the same time DOOM spit these lyrics he simultaneously spit these beats like it was one sound but that (and I honestly appreciate all opinions here whcih is what makes this shit fun) is what I hear and I have yet to get enough of this combo of MC and producer. He is born there and this is teh sound there... They (we) hate him here and that is semi what its about. Villain got kicked out your country and said the pledge of a allegiance 6 times monthly. Purely talking about haveing to leave b/c bullshit began to trump real music. Dig in. That is my 79 cents.

Comment: DOOM is in a poetic form on this album that certainly requires a 2nd and 3rd listen to appreciate where he takes word play and abstract stories, JJ (the verdict is still out if he is best/better to capture DOOM) and it seems lots of production that stood out was not JJ ...brilliant, no filler hip hop

Comment: May not let me rate it again but I am home now... HERE's the deal. What it reminds me of is that DOOM is the illest of all time. ALL time though. CRAZY!!! This album is NOTHING short of spectacular. SPECK. TACK. YOU. LER!!! It doesn't sound like ANY DOOM I have ever heard. The dude is a genius lyrically and for those claiming these beats are noise. That "noise" my friends is certified ear jizz. These beats feel customized to the lyrics here. I don't even know what to say. If you LOVE HipHop then you know what I hear. Sweatin' the dude or nothe already said he owes it to a well refined rhyme flow. Yeah he does and I am HOOKED!!! DOOM it is. NO man can handle his supreme flow. Give me a name. Please be SUPER midful that DOOM (Zev) has been doing it since 1989 on wax so hate to burst your bubble but he is as much a vet as any you can name and THEY cannot fux with the dude. Peace.

Comment: ... that DOOM didn't hand pick and approve every fuckin one of these beats then you're obviously not aware of what this man is capable. The beats ROCK! This sounds like the eclectic sound of the original HipHop 30 years ago. I feel that way about ALL original recipes. Planet Rock was insane and I think DOOM re-capitalizes on an innovating sound. Blah blah blah dick riding, blah blah sweatin' DOOM blah blah your mom blows dick. DOOM is a lyrical genius. AGREE Dr. Death... the answer: NO ONE. NO man on this planet is a better wordsmith. No not even him. NO ONE!!! Let's forego the what to understand the 'HOW" he says it. Then you clowns can catch up on the "what". Hear the how first though. The reason he is releasing in the UK and sticking with that is because you fags HATE HipHop here in the states. If it ain't these radio fags being ass-pimped by no talent producers then it isn't "music" If it won't play in the club for you to spill vodka to, it ain't "music". If it doesn't come with a dance, sprinkles, a balloon, or a free toy inside... you bitches get it? This album is the TRUTH and there is no love in the states. Cats overseas love HipHop like we used to and we are too busy watching for who is radio fastest or radio richest. Madman never go POP like snot bubbles!!!!

Even though I grew up on hip-hop during the golden era, I do have an ear for what lies ahead but these beats are just noise to me. I do like Gov'nor and GMO..but I guess I'm an old soul who wants to hear beats bangin in the trunk and JJ's production doesn't do it for me.

Comment: I don't know why people are badmouthing this album and sayin it's some pop shit. I think DOOM brings it on this album once again. I didn't really care for the instrumental tracks and skits but the actual songs I thought were very good. As far as it being poppy I'm so sick of everyone talking about shit liking washing your hands in songs or what the government is putting in peoples foods. That shit is on everybodys record nowadays (Sarcasm) There is nothing poppy about this album at all. Peace.

Comment: 9/15 of these songs are good beats with stellar rhymes by doom…the rest are some lame beats…bite the thong, rhymin slang, dawg friendly, bout the shoes, still kaps, wash your hands are the worst…some of it sounds like radio played pop rap…expecially still kaps…the rest is pretty good and reminded me a lot of madvillain as far as the sampled dialogues go...the instrumental 'gem' for me is 'viberian sun part II'...jj is capable of some sick beats and accomplished that with more than half of this album...the rest is catered to the pop rap loving masses...not me…

Comment: This cd would be no stars if doom wasnt on it. I was so excited to hear dooms newest album especially after "born like this", but then I heard the beats.... GARBAGE! im seriously pissed off, who is this Jneiro Jarel guy? im not impressed at all. woulda expected more for one of the best artists of all time(doom). Bring classic doom beats back!

Comment: Perfect rhymes and sick beats. Doom is born to be MC. This is the first time I've heard about Jneiro Jarel - I think it's a perfect combination. One of the best albums of 2012.

Comment: I want to give this 2.5 stars. As a DOOM fan since his fondle em days, this is a let down. One of the dopest beats on here is a in interlude that DOOM doesn't even touch. Rhymes and beats are ok.This album is ok. I don't know what record ya'll are listening to. I have given this 4 listens and it doesn't do much for me. I think we all want DOOM to put out shit so badly that when he does we are grateful that he did, which skews our perspective.

Comment: doom did it again. first listen I didn't know what to think. 2nd listen pulled me in. now every listen i'm catching something new and loving the whole project. doom makes the most replayable music, so deep and layered. not familiar with jj but he really delivers some wild free flowing stuff for doom to detonate on. finally a great piece of music in 2012. really hope doom stays active and doesn't go missing for years after this. such a legendary performer. its time doom gets respect for being one of the best artists of all time, much less best rappers of all time. peace to doom know the man is living out in the UK now. g'day sir.

Comment: This is probably the most experimental, melodic and deepest album DOOM and Jneiro has done. Winter Blues is a perfect example of how it really shows DOOM more emotional side of him that I haven't heard before while Jneiro complements with the electronic slash orchestrated violin backdrop. Don't worry, DOOM still has songs with the comical light-hearted super villain style you know and love. But with the uncharted territory that the villain reach really exceeded my expectation. 5/5 no doubt.

Comment: @UsweatMYKicks - Jneiro Jarel is a sick producer and he's been producing for a while now. This album is cohesive and I'd place it above The Mouse & The Mask.

Comment: these beats are wack, can't believe doom collaborated with this dude. retarded fren, gmo & winter blues were decent, but the rest of the beats were terrible. doom is doom... the lyrics are gonna be solid, hopefully there is some type of remix album with some better producers. this will be the only doom album I don't have

Comment: I mean my old azz been in this since the Sugar Hill & Blondie's songs were getting play over 30 yrs ago on the radio..and...who the hell on earth is a better wordsmith on the mic than doom? Slurred yet crystal clear vocals that pierce Ipod headphones. "Winter Blues" was my fav & "Guv'nor". Def will be a UGHH best seller for 2012!

Comment: I bet this is good. I want to hear it. K all Doom does anymore is recycle old shit. I've been complaining about that. I still want to hear this; I don't even have the snippets. Either Doom is secretly dead or just fucking lazy.
