Comment: Overrated pop trash. Kanye fell off after LR. Hipsters and non hip hop listeners on his nuts are what's killing hip hop. Mediocre rapping over mediocre beats. Overhyped.

Comment: As a long time fan of Kanye, this is solid work by him. This is my second favorite album from last year behind Death is Silent by Kno and in front of The Gas Mask by The Left. Very good but Kanye still isn't as good with lyrics as he is with producing. I think a lot of the hate on this album is because of the fact some people are underground elitists (unfortunately) and some people have no taste in music. Solid album, great appearances for the most part, 4.3/5 stars.

Comment: Why can't any of you (with the exception of a few) talk like grown men? Stop being homophobes and biased. Kanye is one of my all-time favorite producers... Yea I said it. Given his early work, I see him like that. And yea, I can't for the life of me listen to his newer stuff, but album wise, Dark Fantasy is constructed well. Individually, the songs may be a little eh, but give credit where credit's due. Personally, I don't dig most of the songs, but the overall build of the album is decent, sooooooo... stop hatin. And stop shouting obscenities, cuz it ain't getting anybody anywhere.

Comment: Yeah JAREDS CUZ... You might need to re-look that video cuz from what I see... There's more than just WHITE women hanging. Even if they were all white, it doesn't make a difference... The concept is still the same. If you take the images LITERALLY for what you see... sure... you can say it's racist. LITERALLY taken, you can also say it's demonic. Tell that same thing to all the kids dressing up as ghosts and vampires for Halloween that they're devil-worshipping! The METAPHORICAL concept is neither of those... Hip-Hop headz think outside of the box! That video, along with the vibe of the whole album, shows a man caught up in the materialistic and misogynistic evils of the world... The images show Kanye as a person who the more conservative elite-class society is terrified to see with THAT kind of power and wealth... thus making him a "monster". The concepts don't evoke racism, but rather they clash with typical standards that mainstream America has programmed most people to get used to seeing. A better example of that is the dinner scene in his full-length "Runaway" video (the part where "Devil in a New Dress" plays...) A lot of people would find it strikingly odd that everyone eating at the table is black and all the workers who are serving are white. It's not a racist concept, it just clashes against things you are used to seeing... And another thing... Don't try to play white rappers as victims in the rap game. Though, historically, Hip-Hop was first sparked through both black and Puerto Rican artists in the Bronx... Hip-Hop will always be grounded with BLACK culture... That's the way it is, take it or leave it. White artists like Eminem, Celph Titled, Paul Wall, and YelaWolf will always have to work TWICE as hard in the rap game. Granted, it's an unfair double-standard, but... That's life. It goes hand-in-hand with blacks who have to work TWICE as hard in America, or who get scrutinized TWICE as much unnecessarily because of the color of skin and the position they are in... (Michael Vick, the Jena 6, Barack Obama...) You just have to deal with it. That's life.

Comment: He's racist because he cutoff a white women's head? I don't get it....so is Jason Vorhees a racist because he cut the heads off of white women? or Freddy Kruger? Or Michael Myers? Hanging blacks is racist because it was done by racists (KKK). But I do not see how Kanye is playing a psychopath and he happens to be killing white women much like horror films that white people attend in droves and eat up these types of movies like it is cool entertainment? So is it ok for a white man to slay white women but not ok for a black man? That is racist in itself! Kanye is playing a sexist in the video, but not a racist (not to mention it is all an acting job if you ask me...I don't think Kanye is a sexist that wants to kill women)...there is a huge difference between someone showing a historical image of black folks hanging from trees and someone playing a psychopath. Never in history has there been groups of black men cutting off white women heads because they hated white people!! Thats riduclous! I think it is funny that a person from ARIZONA is calling out someone as being racist. I have been to Phoenix and it is not exactly welcoming to non-whites. In fact, didn't your state come up with rules that allowed racial profiling and deporting latinos? Shut up Jared, shut up....you sound stupid!

Comment: Kanye West is blatantly RACIST ! ! ! look at his Monster video of decapitated White Women WTF ??? If it was a white Rapper with Black females hanging from Nooses and decapitated how many political groups would speak out about it ?? If I lived in the U.S I would get a few people together and see that skinny motherfucker Kanye. Fuck Kanye and his Mothers corpse ! I guess thats why white men in the U.S are called whiteboys cuz u dont do nothing about the racism against whites in hip-hop. You know im speaking the truth too !

Comment: I like Swizz Beatz as a producer ONLY... One of my favorites from NY anyways... He's got a large catalog full of classic head-bangers! *ad-lib* SHOWTIME!!! Depends on who he's collaborating with... Jay-Z, Busta, DMX for sure. I only hate the fact Swizz took my girl Alicia Keys! (gatdammit...) LPAC, you ain't feelin Pusha T either? I think him and Cy Hi ripped that "So Appalled" track, but it's all good... Hey LARS, what you think of Kanye's full-length "Runaway" video? I'm still tryin to grip my mind around some of the elements in the scenes? Like did you notice the band at the M.J. parade? I'm still tryin to figure out why they're rockin red "KKK-like" hoodies...

Comment: j-Aura the albums of 2010 u mentioned were not all that, in fact the skyzoo one was a let down to me, the 1st was better and the foreign exchange album was the biggest let down basically because of Phonte singing, why??? The 1st album was classic but that was it. The Celph titled album was just HipHop how it should be, perfect album, to me this kanye album was a let down after him lying about havein preemo, Pete Rock etc,I thought he was going another direction to this one! we get Swizz Beats (Awful producer & mc)Pusha T, Rick Ross etc, great, thats a let down bigtime. Mike Dean is a legend though! Peace

Comment: I'll give you that point LARS, but why does someone have to die before they're considered legendary status? Granted, I ain't sayin Rick Ross has reached that plateau yet, but he's progressing towards it... Meanwhile, just because a new artist's style is similar to a past artist doesn't mean they're biting or copying... Everything in music as well as art gets recycled eventually. They can use past styles and reinvent them as an influence in their music. That's called "doing homework". The same thing applies to Nicki Minaj/Lil' Kim, Jay Elect/Nas, J. Cole/Jay-Z, Drake/Lil' Wayne, Phonte/3000 or Q-Tip, Wiz Khalifa/Snoop Dogg, 9th Wonder/RZA... That's just how I see it. And P.S. I give props to Nicki, but her BET Cypher was NOT impressive. Her verse on Kanye's "Monster" and Drake's "Up All Night" was top notch though...

Comment: All of yall are sleeping on Nicki Minaj.....she is actually kinda nice lyrically.....her album was mixed, but she got rhymes and style. She is nothing like Lil Kim except for the sexual stuff and her image somewhat. Her rhyme style is more like Busta Rhymes in a weird way....I started to like her when I first heard her on the BET freestyle at the BET awards a few years back with Eminem in the cypher...she kinda did her thing...youtube that for reference......she is definitely going to be around and relevant a long time....you heard it from LARS first......2pac was better than Biggie as far as making music but Biggie's rhyme style was superior to Pac. However, Pac was more a more powerful person in front of the mic. It is hard to choose sides...that being said, Rick Ross has no place in the conversation. The only thing he has that is like Biggie is the fact that he is also "fat, black and ugly", wears shades all of the time, and allows Puffy to steal his shine. Officer Ricky studied Biggie and jacks a little of Big's flow. If Rick Ross gets killed like BIG, aint no one gonna shed tears nor miss him the same way......

Comment: Yeah LPAC you might be exaggerating just a little bit sayin Celph has the best release in 10 years... That's a lot of timeless classics you squattin on... It barely was the best UNDERGROUND in 2010... Apollo Brown, Skyzoo & Illmind, Rhymefest, Foreign Exchange... But all that's besides the point... Hip-Hop is exploding through the pipes with this new Kanye West album!!! Wake up to the freshness and crank it through your speakers...

Comment: @Phuc.yew, That Marcberg album is tight but im sorry, it has nothing on the Celph cd, that album gave me the same feeling I used to get when I first heard cuban linx, liquid swordz, muddy waters, doggystyle etc! Most of the rap coming out now is made for tenny boppers as its simple lyrics and production, not much is released for the over 30's! At least ive got all my 90's classics to hold me down if hiphop keeps going the way it is, down the fucking drain. Peace

Comment: j-Aura I respect you but please stop now, its starting to get strange all this biggie and rick ross comparison, rick ross is trash, a biggie biter like shyne, gravy etc but none can compare, I mean rick ross just talks money hoes the same bullshit, biggie was such a great storyteller, his rhymes were like movies! Im sorry but real hiphip heads know that Celph titled and buckwild album is album of the year and the best album in well over 10 years, its fucking hiphop all the way through unlike Kanyes up and down album and all the other trash like lil weezy and Jeezy, that music is for 12 to 14 year olds who can understand simple lyrics! As for Nicki minaj, wack as fuck.

Comment: Yeah I'd say the same thing about Nicki Minaj... I can listen to her stuff, but I ain't really checkin for it like I do Jean Grae, Erykah Badu, or Nneka... But what about Lil' Kim? And she DID call out Nicki on jockin her style... I ain't really listen to Lil' Kim then or now, but keep in mind she did run with the EXACT SAME affiliation as the Notorious B.I.G... In fact (if you seen the movie) Biggie TOLD Kim to use that type of style... So how could you really beef against Nicki Minaj being as explicit as she is? It worked in the 90's and it works for her now... And YEAH... that track "Hustlin" is like a classic ghetto anthem! That is my SHIT!!! (not to bite off Katt Williams, but...) That is my SHIT!!! lol Mainstream-targeted, of course, but that organ and bass on the beat... Crunk lyrical delivery... Okay I'll give ya a better comparison... B.I.G.'s "Big Poppa" and Ross's "Magnificent"... C'mon son! The styles are somewhat similar. Biggie's lyrics are more intricate overall, but the style isn't THAT much superior. Ya'll might be holdin' B.I.G.'s past legacy up too high... I may be biased too, cuz you already know I said I think 2Pac was the greatest EVER... (sorry, for straying so far of the subject of Kanye)

Comment: aura my brother, are you comparing "juicy" to that wack ass "hustlin" joint? I respectively disagree, Rick Ross should not even be mentioned on this website let alone mention to the likes of the notorious b.i.g. rick ross sucks, period! and yes I can say that about celphs album because I look past the b.s that the media injects into the likes of every person out there that tunes into wack ass radio stations. not they're fault that they are succumbed to it. Maybe I am bias and love that true grit but celph and buck killed that album. I cant get into this new jack same beat sounding nonsense. and what about nicki minaj? this is another "mc" that I dont get and came out of nowhere. her shit is trash too. I wish tiye phoenix or jean grae would just call her out and end it. drake is corny, royce proved that on the "forever" redo and killed that. who else? lil wayne, forget it...these idiots on the radio now, like my chick rah digga said " need to be put to bed like hennesey and nyquil". bigups aura and Lars, especially Lars because I agree with you on that rick ross biggie comparison lol

Comment: Damn! Hey D-Stroi, I ain't even realize that it got 5 Mics in The Source 'til after you said it. Mad props to 'Ye... It might not mean much, but at the same time, it is well deserved. That, and Bun-B's Trill O.G. album... And I will respectively say this about Celph Titled's album... When it comes to a great Hip-Hop album, you have to find a certain balance in your music... A balance between the deep, intricate, soulful shit that gets respect from the headz and also the booty-shake, head-bobbin, club bangers that easily catch the non-listener's attention. If you steer too far to either side, you're either an MC with much credit that will never make it out of the underground level... OR you're a one-hit-wonder maker ridin the coattails of the mainstream suckas. I think Kanye's album - aside from record sales and Source's rating - represents that balance in great Hip-Hop music. It has a little bit of everything you could possibly want from a record. Now respectively, can you say that about Celph's album too? Sure, the lyrics are definitely on point, production is very well done "vintage-style", but... What makes it stand out from the rest in 2011? Of course, that's something that doesn't have a solid answer because, like you said, not everyone agrees on the same thing... And LARS... Rick Ross ain't no Biggie, but he's workin to being pretty damn close... Closer than a Drake/Jay-Z comparison... Of course Ross can never replace him, just like Jay Electronica can NEVER REPLACE Nasir Jones... and Phonte can NEVER REPLACE Andre 3000, but... Check the scoresheet... Line up the first mainstream debut singles... B.I.G.'s "Juicy" compared to Ross's "Hustlin"... I'm tellin ya, watch in the next few years to come...

Comment: Preem and Pete Rock would have ruined this project because their sound would not fit the profile of the album. Kanye was in a particular zone for this album and I just don't see Pete's and Preem's signature sounds working here. BTW...Kanye is better OVERALL than both Pete Rock and Preemo put together. Pete is for that classic 90's "Nakamichi in the Lexus" sound and Preemo is for that 90's underground street sound coming out of the Pathfinder's Sony with a Becker box in da trunk! Kanye is the evolution of those producers...........

Comment: i cant even get into this discussion because I disagree with heads on here but like I said before, like what you want to like. if you listen to lil wayne and brother ali at the same time then your brain will smack you because thats retarded. rick ross compared to biggie is like comparing a ferrari to a gremlin. I dont even mind kanye but this goes with the polictical hip hop bullshit that the media plays into. just because the source says this shit is 5 mics dont mean anything. so I respectively say this should be catered to the commercial scene and not even here because no one will agree on anything. and why not celphs album better than this? because its "90's"? so lets just discredit his work with buckwild and the lyrics/metaphors that he plays with all over this record. and no disrespect to aura and lars but obviously your going to love this album because these are the sounds that you love now and what you want. premo and rock wouldnt have ruined this album either. you say that now because youve already heard the final product and like it the way it is. you may have had a different outlook on it, if premo and rock did it to begin with. not to mention, its two different sounds. and kanye is not better than premo or rock. hes up there, but not better. bigups to kanye though, im not hating

Comment: Rick Ross aint no Biggie.....he's good, but he aint no Biggie. Biggie is one of the greatest MC's in hip hop history. Rick Ross is as close to being the southern Biggie as much as Big Cizzle b/k/a Guerilla Black! Rick Ross is just Rick Ross. End of discussion.

Comment: Now that kid's goin places... TURFTALKA hit the nail on the head for the better of 2011... The collabos are an excellent lineup of powerful verses, it don't matter who's at bat... Not to mention also the new generation MC out of the G.O.O.D. music label, Cy Hi the Prince out of ATL... Veteran MC Pusha T out of VA (good sign Yeezy!)... The "hate em or love em", the "never back down on a beat" mainstream beast MC RICK ROSS out of Florida... Yeah I said it! ... ... And? I say that with such conviction only because of a debate I heard on another site about Rick Ross being almost like the new Southern "Notorious B.I.G." (Watch how many people frog up on that discussion...) I'll go ahead and say this... I know that no one could ever REPLACE Biggie in Hip-Hop's framework history... And I thought the idea of it was ridiculous as hell, at first... But if you look at Ross's catalog as a whole... The imagery in his verses and his vernacular damn near ROCK 90% of any club you find... And for B.I.G., during his era on earth, it was the same thing as he blazed the mainstream charts... Sure... ... There were plenty of people missing out on that Pharcyde "Drop" and that Masta Ace "Born To Roll" back in the mid-90's, but shit... Like Kanye would've said even back then, "You ain't got no fuckin' Biggie in your Serrato?! *ad-lib* YOU AIN'T GOT NO BIGGIE n*gga???!" lol stupid... What the fuck do I know? lol

Comment: To all people who criticize, you're the "real" reason hip hop is dead. It's not impossible for someone to listen to Lil Wayne & Brother Ali at the same time. Now I love underground hip hop as much as the next guy, but at least I can recognize when a mainstream album is really good. This is one of them, the beats knock, and it's very creative. Ye spoiled yall this year, he worked with S1, RZA, Raekwon & No I.D., gave you a free song every week and a dope album yet you still bitch about him being for the radios & TVs, well do you guys see "Power" on TV or listen to "Runaway" on the radio, and if you do well at least he isn't talking about balling or smoking weed. P.S. the only reason why I rated it a 4 was because I didn't like Runaway and Lost In The World was decent.

Comment: I'm so sick of all these politics surrounding this album! Guess what? Taylor Swift sucks so who cares? This album is one of the most pioneering albums to date. It is well thought out, beautifully constructed, and more of a hip-hop symphony/opera and one of the most original albums I've ever heard. Musically, this album is genius, and I don't care who released it, it just happened to be Kanye, so good for him! I've been listening to hip-hop for 30 years, and even though I love the past it's time to move to the future as well! This may be the album in 20 years that people realize changed the game to open up hip-hop to grow and explore new possibilities! P.s. If you aren't rocking vinyl you're missing out..

Comment: No fuckin way is this better than Celphs album, its ok but Kanye got me hyped when he first said premo, pete rock, rza etc will be heavily involved in this then it ended up being mainly mike dean with him, dont get me wrong I love some of mike deans rapalot tracks back in the day but come on, kanye an idiot lately, did you hear him say that lloyd banks is his favourite mc and swizz beats is one of the best producers ever? Im sorry but after that kanye lost me as a fan. I cant see anything being better than celphs album for a long time, im not just saying that as a 90's addict, that album has had so much play since I got it and im not no where near a tiny bit sick of it, I havent had that feeling since the 90's classics. I know kanye can produce his ass off and rap his ass off sometimes but this is just ok.

Comment: I hate to say it, but this just might be the 2010 Album of the Year... And I'm comparing this next to my personal 2010 favorites - Nas & Damian's Distant Relatives, LB's LeftBack, Big Boi's Son of Chico Dusty, and Ms. Badu's New Amerykah Pt. 2... LARS took the words right out of my mouth, cuz it's easy to say Celph Titled's album was dope in itself (...and it WAS dope), but it's hard to say that it was groundbreaking like this new Kanye release... Simply put, there's nothing that I DON'T like about it. No slump songs whatsoever, every joint has potential to be the leading single. Especially "Power", "Devil in a New Dress", and "Lost In The World"... And the concepts are ill, complex, and well thought out... I can understand why people can't stand some slackin ass rappers in the mainstream, but Mr. West isn't one of em. He ain't catering to NO "target" audience! He's making music for the love of making music, no matter who likes it. Shouldn't that be the driving factor of a true genius at work?

Comment: To me this is not a good album...Not just because it's popular, or because he's a mason or has corporations backing him...The reason I don't like it is because the beats don't bang... Progressive doesnt mean that they shouldn't sound good...Kanye has moved on to another crowd and are not his target audience...If you want a good progressive album get kno's latest album...To compare this to Celphs album is just foolish...Celph's lyrics kill Kanyes... He is overrated just like little way, Rick Ross, Drake and JayZ...Compare this to a rock album or eminems last album because they sound simular..Celph is the album of the yr by far....Subject matter, beats, Cadence, guests, lyrics...This shit sucks and is for the Radio........I'm Kanye and I'm so deep an cool, if underground cats had his budget and technology it would be lites out for real....

Comment: d-stroi, have you heard Kanye's album? The music and songwriting on that shyt is incredible. There is nothing incredible about Celph's album. It is a good album but nothing groundbreaking. We heard all of it before, back in the 90's. He just re-did that type flavor in a nice fashion. But this album by Kanye.......it is the magnum opus of his storied career. This album puts him in a catergory that is not just "hip hop"...it is a blend of all types of music. The production Kanye did on this album makes guys like Dr.Dre look like Swizz Beats circa 1999. Kanye is easily the best producer in hip hop and one the best in music overall. He is also one of hip hop's best song writers. Don't sleep.......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Either way it sucks HARD, like the new Dyson vaccuum... (British accent) One hundred THOUSAND times the Earth's natural gravity. THAT there is Kanye. If you were concsious when all this started happening you would realize that he is ONLY the (so-called) best that the mainstream has to offer, which is not saying much. He blows like chunks after a tall warm glass of month milk. You taste it? Comment: What up yHATE! Happy Thanksgiving to everyone... This is in response to Lukus from London... He brought up a very good argument... Saying that Kanye tries too hard to be profound and ends up sounding pretentious... This is true. But I think it's a little bit of both... Kanye uses his controversy and extra media attention to reflect some thought-provoking shit... "So Appalled", "Runaway"... He's human just like anyone else, except he's caught up in the glamourous life, battling his own ego as well as the egos of others. Not only that, his drum selections are polyrhythmatic and undeniably HOT! "All Of The Lights", "Lost In The World"... That dude has done his homework on Hip-Hop history! And it shows through his production! But overall, I can't convince anyone who just doesn't like Kanye. It would be in the same sense of how Funk Flex just made some comments recently sayin he didn't like 2Pac... I could preach how Pac was spittin some soulful, revolutionary topics... But if you think he was just being vulgar for the hell of it, then that's you...

I knew this fuck wouldn't be "taking it back" to 90's boom-bap. he has a real opportunity to change the way a lot of people look at hip hop music, change it for the better, and instead he tries to be so epic and so different with all this artsy bullshit. and dont try and tell me he collabed with pete rock because all he did was rhyme on one of pete's worst beats from '97. one of the problems with kanye west is he puts fashion, award shows, and social networking ABOVE his actual job. if yall want real hip hop, listen to damu the fudgemunk. no fucking hoop-la, just dope beats, and dope rhymes. this hip hop shit really ain't that hard man.

Comment: Straight up, this is some ill shit Kanye... I can tell he put an arm and leg into making this album! That track "Devil In A New Dress" is a HEAD-BANGER! And I think "Power" might be the best song he's EVER made! You know, it's funny how people are quick to label someone "Illuminati" simply because they fear what they don't understand... Some of his concepts are just too damn genius for people to grip their hands around. That's cool, but do be aware that EVEN IF Kanye West was "Illuminati", that doesn't mean he represents a demonic force! "Illuminati" and Satan are two completely separate entities... Do your research! I think that's just comical the way people misinterpret Kanye... I would believe Sarah Palin and John Boehner have more "New World Order/Illuminati" influence than lil old Kanye... Next subject. Can the brotha even gets props for collaborating with Raekwon, RZA, and No I.D.? Probably not from the weak-hearted...

Comment: Kanye should retire. Better than 808 but still a poor effort. This one is not even close to his first two releases.

Comment: Of course George Bush doesn't care about black people... Duh. Kanye just had big enough nuts to say it. My hat's off to one of the top producers AND lyricists of the game today! That track "Power" is probably one of the best in his entire discography... And the video for "Runaway" is pure genius... Mr. West is on Michael Jackson Thriller shit right now!

Comment: He should change his name to Kan-gay west, make him sing with autotune while Drakes dick is in his mouth. I miss that chi-town based emcee that he was when he did college dropout. Now he is a disgrace to his town and a disgrace to rap music for that matter.

Comment: i cant stand this dude, but i've been hearing that he had madlib put aside 5 beats that may be used on this album. madlib is the shit, kanye is not. if I find these beats interesting ill find the instrumentals. kanye is pop music not hip hop.

Comment: 1) the gumby cut was ill 2) kanye has real beats, you all hate because he get's more exposure than underground artists 3) if madlib is on this album I will be so happy to see him get commercial success and be on the top 40. Not only will I be happy for madlib, but for the countless number of people who will be hearing him for the first time !! that's what's good in 2010
