Comment: Got the overall ability to rhyme and make good beats. Love his flow, mad smooth. I hope he continues to make ill joints.

Comment: It's not like I'm saying the #1 Soul Brother is done, his last project with Edo G. confirmed that he's not. But it's good to hear someone today making beats the way it used to be, hard bass lines with a smooth melody. Kev Brown sounds better everytime I hear something new from him. With 'I Do What I Do' being his first solo album, you can simply tell by the music he's playing no games. Each beat is sparkling in quality, and his sincerity on the mic is indisputable. He’s extremely reminiscent of a young Pete Rock, where his beats outshine his rhymes, but that’s mainly because his beats are so excellent. Although I’ve heard “Alone Again” prior to this album, it’s still one of the best tracks out right now. Pete’s brother Grap Luva of INI fame comes through on a dope new track (they’ve worked together before) and a Kev Brown project wouldn’t be complete without a track with his main man Kenn Starr. Another part of his collective, Cy Young, is on two tracks, most notably the banging “Outside Lookin”, which has an ill bass line. LB’s Phonte kills his verse on “Beats N’ Rhymes” so bad, it makes you wonder if he saved any for The Minstrel Show (but you know he def did). This is a great debut album, but the instrumental version will be a MUST for every true hip-hop head.
