Summary

Slice Of Spice is proud to present a project fans of THAT Lord Finesse sound, have been waiting for the last 20 years. Finesse dug deep into his floppy disk and DAT tape archives to help bring us a monster 25 tracks of unreleased and previously unavailable SP1200 heat.

As always no expense has been spared to ensure we provide y'all with a superior sound and quality vinyl. After Finesse hooked-up the E-mu Systems SP1200 and Akai S950 to transfer and sequence these tracks, we had Eddie Sancho mix then, and Tony Dawsey master them.

The sound is going to blow you away...HE'S BAAAACK, AND HE'S BAAAAD!

Comment: PS: I just saw the photo with LF in the studio with his SP1200 sitting on top of the S-950. So, yes he used one. But people, the S-950 is a huge part of the magic of 2nd golden era hip hop! Gritty but warmer sounding than the SP-1200 and it had an infamous low pass filter for making those murky-ass bass lines we all know and love.

Comment: I'm not sure why some reviewers are pissed 'cause LF used a 950. First, he may not have. For instance, he might have sampled and sequenced the drums on the 1200 and then ran the sequences to Pro-Tools where he then added Moog, etc. This is completely legit. It is also completely legit if he sampled on the 950 and went via midi through the 1200 and sequenced, as was done in the day by lots of producers. It's important to remember that besides the gritty 12bit samples the SP-1200 produced, the sequencer with its unique swing (to my ear unique even at 50% which is technically no swing) that made this instrument so cool. I think it’s kind of harsh to dis LF for jacking us because he didn't call the record "SP-1200, S-950 project". All this said, I agree that not all the beats are thrilling. I'm still happy to have gotten the discs as I find a number of beats to be really sweet.

Comment: D*ck Smith once again is laughing his way to the bank on all this BS, I'm getting tired of everyone using the SP as a gimmick to sell their products. This LP was 10% SP and 90% 950, SP project my assh*le. I am done with Slice-of-Spice, riding off of Finesse's d*ck nonstop.

Comment: Electric Impression and Cali Tides 2 Siberian Pipelines are the best track on both CDs :) Very happy to buy this but I know it isn't only an SP used here because 5 second tracks aren't like these ones, because you can see there is more than 5 second in timing of some samples.

Comment: WTF is wrong with you? I know what it is…Anytime you hear something that resembles the '90s, you muthaf*ckas bug the f*ck out and act like sh*t is a f*ckin masterpiece just because of that reason. No way this is a 5. You wanna know why? Most of the beats on here are just "average" beats for that time. Throwaway beats he never used. Why is it that the ones that WERE used like "Straight Outta Now Rule" and "Suicidal Thoughts" absolutely sh*t on the other ones? Because those were actually dope as f*ck! Take his "Awakening" album for instance. All those beats are off the f*ckin chain. Most of these beats are just decent. Of course they sh*t on a lot of stuff TODAY, but that ain't saying sh*t. 3 at best!

Comment: Well worth the price of admission and for the "Love vs Hate" instrumental. We need more D.I.T.C.! This will not disappoint true Hip-Hop heads. Thank you Lord Finesse!

Comment: These are great instrumentals. However, why isn't Lord Finesse rapping over these? It just isn't the same without some clever lyrics from him. Hip hop really needs that from him.

Comment: Misleading, this is not ALL SP beats, this is 90% S950 and 10% SP, why is everyone capitalizing on the SP, false advertisement.

Comment: Two discs of absolutely beautifully orchestrated instrumental greatness. No other way to describe some of these beats than to say they are gorgeous - that's a strange verb for me to use to describe a hip hop instrumental but the beats are that soothing and melodic. Listen to the samples and you will no doubt agree that this CD brings you to a different era. I hope this is what heaven sounds, because I can't imagine it sounding any better than this.

Comment: Production from Lord Finesse never disappoints!! These are the joints that should remain in constant rotation while riding around town or just chillin' at home. Tracks like Hear The Vibe, Smooth, Vibe Out, and Abstrakt Neo Synopsis take this to a higher level.
