Product Details

Louis Logic splashed onto the indie rap scene "party foul" style in 1999 with the drinker's anthem "Factotum". He spawned a laundry list of collaborations with artists like Jedi Mind Tricks, MF DOOM, Malik B of the Roots, and even pop rapper Travie McCoy from Gym Class Heroes. His 2003 debut Sin-A-Matic cemented him in listener's minds as a standard for dark romantic comedy and shock rap. Louis' taste for musical exploration grew with the release of his most mature record to date, Misery Loves Comedy (2006), on which he officially partnered with longtime producer J.J. Brown. It was then that Louis executed his most mysterious and adventurous move yet, retreating into monastic seclusion to study voice, piano and music theory. When he emerged, it was touting a new Copenhagen, Denmark based live Surf/ Hip Hop/ Balkan fusion band, Spork Kills, which he debuted with the Beaches Love Us EP (2009) featuring the video that garnered his first MTV exposure, "Night of the Hip 'N Dead". He continued to tour worldwide throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, cultivating the theatrical live show that managed to amalgamate rapping, singing, piano playing and even stand up comedy. After 7 years of radio silence, music study, extensive touring and artistic exploration, Louis will follow up his 2006 record with his first self-produced album on progressive indie label Fake Four Inc. Titled "Look on the Blight Side", it's a rap record in an indie-pop, singer/ songwriter style, completely sample free, with original arrangements written and played by Louis. This dark collection of songs gives fans a revealing look into his long journey of self discovery.

Comment: Louis Logic has consistently got worse since his very 1st 12" and hasn't made one single good track since he was on Super Regular Recordings.

Comment: You can't review the album on samples alone. This is way leftfield compared to most of todays hip hop but this is a good thing. If you go in expecting more of the same from Lou you'll be disappointed, but if you just go clean slate style and listen with no preconceived perceptions then you may just be amazed.

Comment: The like the carnival-esque vibe to a lot of the songs. I think there is a slight vaudeville/pop undertone to the most of the production. Also, there are a lot of intriguing concepts in the lyrics too. However, the vocals are a little too quiet in the mix, imo. Regardless, it is a fantastic collection of diverse and dynamic compositions that anyone who truly appreciates quality music will enjoy.

Comment: Been a minute since Louis Logic has dropped a album. Great to see good music still in rotation. I'm looking forward to this joint. Over the years dude has been creating some music that speaks on the crazy shit happening these days, and does so without the fear of retaliation. Whether you think this album will be great, or not - one thing for sure is that it takes guts to challenge a lot of bullshit in the game, and society. Trips me though, the album isn't out yet, and cats are already pouring out hate. -- Murderous if you're really harping on that "stunt," he pulled. Take a good look at his past shows. Lou has never been afraid to challenge social norms, etc.
