Where can you hear the sound of Kanye West and Santogold colliding? Or Tom Waits and Kool Keith? The story of N.A.S.A. (an acronym for North America/South America) goes back five and a half years when Squeak E. Clean (aka DJ/producer/composer Sam Spiegel, brother of director Spike Jonze) and DJ Zegon (aka DJ/producer/professional skateboarder Ze Gonzales) met in Sao Paulo, Brazil and were instantly drawn together over their mutual love for rare Brazilian funk and soul records. They decided to share their experience and create a record that similarly brought people together from different musical genres, races, religions, politics, countries and languages and ignoring these boundaries that keep people divided. In order to fully-realize their mission the two created some of the most unique musical pairings ever recorded, all within the backdrop of Brazilian funk. The result is The Spirit of Apollo, connecting people as diverse as David Byrne and Chuck D, or Karen O. of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Ol' Dirty Bastard, the latter two singing together on the late hip-hop star's last known recorded track.

Comment: Really enojyed the lineups on this cd. Tom Waits and Kool Keith was everything it should have been. Really enjoyed the track The Mayor as well. Also, anyone checking out the album stay in tune for the bonus track with RZA, the beat is amazing. A couple dance type tracks that weren't really my thing but suited the album.

Comment: I don't know why Tim B. & Diego didn't like it but I will say if you aren't into alternative hip-hop it might not be for you ,but I will go as far by saying this is the closest in this day in age of hip-hop that we will get to the classics like The Fugees - The Score, Any of the A Tribe Called Quest classics and the early Outkast stuff that have a very original sound to it. I would highly recommend this to almost all of hip-hop fans.

Comment: Pure Garbage. This is a good example of trying to make a new sound and failing.

Comment: This is groovy, and the artist brought their B+ games, and some their A games to the project, the many sounds are tight! yet unified unlike so many compilations nowadays, this is an early '09 gem

Comment: Yeah I'm probably going to buy this solely revolving around the fact that tom wait and kool keith are doing a song together. this just might be that new thing everybody likes to hear.
