Triple S Sets The Stage For A 2006 Onslaught1/31/06
By: Trees
If you were in attendance at any of Cage's Hell's Winter Tour dates, you are probably already up on the crew known as Slow Suicide Stimulus. If not, soak the knowledge. SSS consists of Tame One (Artifacts, Weathermen) and the Dusted Dons (C Chan & Govone). If you know anything about either of these hip hop acts you know they both rock the realness in every release that hits the streets. The group is currently prepping it's first official release in the form of a 12 inch single featuring the great O.G. himself Grandmaster Caz over some Mighty Mi drums. In April, Slow Suicide Stimulus will drop a full length project featuring the likes of Aesop Rock, Cage, El-P, Yak Ballz, and Vast Aire. It's apparent the Weathermen crew are still alive and well in the '06.

Apathy All Philosophical And Sh*t1/25/06
By: Trees
Hailing from the state that brought the country the Hartford Whalers, UCONN basketball, and two Indian Casinos, Apathy is now prepared to take Connecticut to the next level in the rap game. After years of anticipation, numerous delays, and several teaser releases, the man from the nutmeg state has announced a March 21st release date for his debut solo LP, ‘Eastern Philosophy'. A lot of you are probably wondering why Ap is dropping the debut on Babygrande instead of Atlantic Records. Well, the Atlantic release is still coming, Apathy simply wanted to satisfy the hunger of his huge underground fan base first. Apathy believes he's delivered a future classic piece of hip hop history and explained the concept behind the title track, "It sets the tone for the rest of the album. Hard drums, slightly retro east coast 90's boom bap and I talk about the little details people forget about the east". Yo Apathy, holla @ yo boy next time you roll through East Hartford!

File This One Under: Wait And See1/19/06
By: Trees
Well it's that time of year again. The ol' rumor mill is churning out some goodness these days. A source close to UGHH.com who works for Dr. Dre's production team out in L.A. has announced that the good doctor is going to be producing a majority of Jay-Z's upcoming LP. Yep, you read right; Jay-Z's upcoming LP. Rumors of Jay's return to the game have been rampant since the moment he announced his retirement, but the source confirms that Jay-Z has already laid down at least two Dr. Dre laced tracks for the LP, and states that the tracks are molten lava! Of course, nothing has been confirmed officially from either camp. If the rumor proves true, prepare for the Jiggaman to shut down the game in the oh-six.

The Push To Save Friday Night Flavas Has Begun Online1/17/06
By: Trees
After 8 years of providing the southern Californian hip hop community with the realness over the airwaves, Power 106 has pulled the plug on the legendary Friday Night Flavas radio show. If that injustice wasn't harsh enough, keeping with wack corporate radio policy Power 106 reportedly cancelled the show without warning or giving the DJs a final farewell show. Ironically, the slogan for Power 106 is "Where Hip Hop Lives", however they've done nothing but kill their credibility and helped enforce the current belief that terrestrial radio is in its dying days. It's time record companies realize that the lack of exposure for talented artists is truly what is killing the music industry, and internet downloading is simply a scapegoat for a much larger picture. As the industry continues to force feeds wack artists and radio shows to public, the public's consciousness of that fact does nothing but grow. An online petition to save the Friday Night Flavas radio show has been posted, and if you are interested in signing it please visit: The Power 106 Petition Page.

Ghostface Is Such A Doll1/12/06
By: Trees
By now everyone knows Ghostface is dropping a new album entitled 'Fishscale'. Yeah there'll be production by MF DOOM (5 tracks), J.Dilla, Pete Rock, and the Wally Champ himself but did you know Tony Starks is now trying to creep on your little sister's Barbie dolls? If you're a hip hop memorabilia collector, chances are you are already salivating after hearing the news of a limited editon hand-numbered Ghostface Killah doll (or action figure if you want to be all 'no homo' about it). The doll features a real 14K gold chain, a genuine Ghostface robe, a gold chalice with swarovski crystals and the option to pick up that ill Ghostface 'Bird' armpiece. In addition to that the doll also comes speaking real words. With the push of a button, the doll utters phrases like, "In a flashy penthouse that overlooks the vista", and "Yo bitch I f*cked your friend, yeah you stank ho!". Currently the doll is only available online through pre-order @ TheGhostfaceDoll.com. Crazy!

Handsome Boy Modeling School Closes Doors1/12/06
By: Trees
The last few years have been good for collabo albums. 9th Wonder & Buckshot, Dangermouse and MF DOOM, Slug and Murs.. but a lot of people seem to have slept on one of my personal favorites from the 2K-era, Prince Paul and Dan The Automator's project: The Handsome Boy Modeling School. Garnering critical acclaim, the album failed to generate the sales that the aforementioned clocked and certainly fell under the radar of even some of the most faithful hip hop heads. Well, now the group is no more. According to Prince Paul's statements in a recent Pitchfork Media story, the pair have permanently parted ways. Paul spoke on the split stating; "We were having some internal conflicts, I guess it is major. It was major enough for me to retire, hang up my moustache and suit. It's done, that's it." Any hopes of reconciliation seem to be slim as Paul described the relationship ending in a messy divorce. "When I announced my retirement, that was it. He didn't call me, his manager didn't call me, the Handsome Boy manager didn't call. Either they hate my guts, or it just didn't work out." But Prince Paul fans shouldn't fret. Apparently the legendary producer is trying to holla at the Metal Faced Villain to possibly collabo on a new album together. Prince Paul and DOOM?? Those mp3s will melt cho iPods.

Last Call For Alkaholiks1/12/06
By: Shadeed
West Coast legends Tha Alkaholiks are releasing their fifth and final album entitled "Firewater". To thank their fans that stuck with them throughout their careers, they are also doing a farewell tour and plan to retire the group after this last go-around. The Likwit Crew feels the need to represent on the last album. E-Swift mentioned, "We knew there was never going to be a second chance and we owed it to our fans to put everything we could into it right here, right now." Fans can hear early samples of the album at their website Alkaholiks.com and it will available at the UGHH store.
