B.I.G. Accused Triggerman Dismissed10/30/04
By: Food Stamp
After being accused in the B.I.G. wrongful death lawsuit, Amir Muhammed has been dismissed by Biggie's mom, Voletta Wallace. Muhammed, being accused after having similar facial qualities based on a police sketch, and who has also offered to take a lie-detector test, is not totally off the hook for the 1997 shooting in Los Angeles. Wallace is still suing the city of Los Angeles and David Mack, a former police officer and member of the Bloods street gang, for an alleged conspiracy to gun down her son. Without Muhammad, reports said it will be difficult to prove that there was a conspiracy among the LAPD to help gun down her son.

Talib Preps Follow-up Mixtape10/30/04
By: Food Stamp
After The Beautiful Struggle has received lackluster reviews and has been subject to die-hard fan blasphemy, Kweli is set to release the second of his mixtape series, The Beautiful Mixtape 2. In this day and age it's quite normal for an artist to release a prelude-to-a-full-length mix to hype the album, but now we may get a chance to hear some joints that didn't -and maybe should have- made the LP. After the first mix received a cease-and-desist order for the track "Lonely People" (c'mon, didn't we learn anything from the Dangermouse situation?!?), the second installment is hoping for a bit longer of a shelf life. Mixtape 2 will boast the talent of some of the industry's finest, an A-list that includes Mos Def, Ghostface, Saigon, Wordsworth, Common, Luda, Snoop, Dead Prez, Jean Grae and a boatload of others.

Mixing Politics With Hip-Hop10/15/04
By: Food Stamp
Eminem has a lot on his plate lately- a SIRIUS radio station, a new album about to drop, and now he's teamed up with mixtape aficionado DJ Green Lantern and the Young Voter Alliance to release a pro-Democratic mixtape. The aim of the CD and the YVA's Trick Or Vote campaign is to recruit young democratic voters for the November 2nd elections. Sirius Bizness, which is hosted by Em, has about 24 tracks and includes the Mos Def featured "Bin Laden," which is a hot to def cut. Also, as Emimen anticipates the release of his new album Encore on November 16th, he may be encountering some legal trouble with Michael Jackson over his new video for "Just Lose It." The video, which features Emimen in a parodic fashion dressed as Jacko, has already been pulled from BET. The King of Pop is threatening to sue since Em depicts the sensitive child molestation issues, Mike's detaching nose, and the incident where he set his hair on fire. Although Jacko is threatening, the video is clearly parody, and would also not constitute libel since he is a public figure.

Babygrande Immortalizes10/15/04
By: Food Stamp
It has become clear that Babygrande Records is no longer a fledging label as they've put out countless underground gems in the past few semesters. As for Immortal Technique- he's hustled the hell out of Revolutionary Vol. 1 and 2, moving a significant amount of units. Well, both of these entities have combined forces as Babygrande has announced, in a partnership with Viper Records, that they'll be releasing Tech's highly anticipated Middle Passage LP. The album, which supposedly "will bring Technique back to the streets," is slated for an early 2005 drop. Viper and Babygrande are also discussing a deal to release a DVD documentary on Tech's life as a loved, hated, and controversial hip-hop artist.

50 Cent Staying Hydrated10/15/04
By: Food Stamp
If you know anything about 50 Cent, you know that the Queens-bred emcee does not drink liquor or beer, thus he has got to stay hydrated somehow. Well, his choice beverage is Glaceau Vitamin Water Drink, and 50 recently just invested money into the company. As a result 50 will be releasing a grape flavored beverage that is called Formula 50. Despite his name, this juice will not be close to a half-dollar, but instead will run the thirsty minions nearly $2 a pop. Want a taste? If you live in NY you got a chance to sip some Formula 50 since it is being tested at select stores in the state. In other 50 news, his second album, a follow-up to Get Rich or Die Trying, which was slated to drop this summer, should be pushed back due to quality issues.

Mixtapes Sell Cars10/15/04
By: Food Stamp
People who have attended any sort of hip-hop related event in the last two years, or watches even a modicum of television, probably knows about the Toyota company Scion. Thus far Scion has been successful in cramming their noses into every major hip-hop event, even sponsoring some, in an attempt to exploit hip-hop to sell cars. Well, their newest ploy, and it's a mighty nice one at that, includes the recruitment of Tony Touch, Madlib, PB Wolf, Jazzy Jeff, and Pete Rock to judge in the second annual "Free Up Your Mix" national DJ contest. Scion is calling on DJ's from across the world to provide their best live 30-minute mix in a chance to win $2,500, tons of DJ gear, and mix a sampler that will be pressed into ½-million copies. DJ's have until the end of October to submit their mix, but for more information please check scion.com/mix.
