| Illness Strikes Chappelle's Show | 12/27/04 |

We're pretty sure that everybody has been looking forward to the much hyped third season of the Chappelle's Show. Well, the forever-seeming wait will continue as Chappelle's recent illness and the writers' lack of material will stymie any progress on the third season. Not only are the new episodes going to have to wait until April or May, but so will the second season DVD (although a release date for the DVD is unannounced). That's right, as both were supposed to drop in coincidence on February 16th, you're going to have to wait longer to see some of Rick James' last performances, as well as tons of the season's other highlighted skits. Tony Fox, a Comedy Central spokesperson, told the New York Post, "Dave-- and his entire production crew for that matter-- got a bit of a late start on writing season three…He [Dave] was recently sick for more than a week." | | | | Subscribe RSS |

For years, the thought of M.F. DOOM and Ghostface on a single track together would be a hip-hop wet dream for most. Imagine the explosion of nocturnal emissions if the two were to do an entire album together. Although the details are murky, DOOM confirmed on BBC radio that he and Ghost are working together. Just imagine the uncouth wordplay and crazy rhymes schemes of the Supervillain and Tony Starks over the looped hallucinatory DOOM beats.
And if you think this is far-fetched, Ghost has already completed a joint with El-P called "H.Y.F. (Hide Ya Face)" that is produced by Prefuse 73 and will appear on Prefuse's forthcoming album. Furthermore, El-P also did a remix to the "H.Y.F." joint and that will surely be poppin' up somewhere. We can only keep our fingers crossed that the DOOM/Ghost project jumps off, but really, how the hell is DOOM gonna do it with a handful of projects in the midst? | | | | Subscribe RSS |

| ODB, Perils Persist | 12/27/04 |

Although most of us have gone through the lamentation process over the death of the Ol' Dirty Bastard himself, problems have and may continue to persist post-mortem. About 30-40 minutes of ODB performance footage was just sold on eBay for a reported $100,000. MTV allegedly also offered up a ransom of $100,000 for the rights to the footage. Apparently the footage, taken 2 days before his death, depicts ODB performing under the influence of drugs as he is shown smoking before getting on mic and even falling from the stage. Coincidentally, the ODB camp claims that no such footage could even exist since no video cameras are allowed into performances and that MTV never includes itself in eBay biddings. It just seems like nowadays if you're a rapper, or an NBA basketball player, who does some ish, you're going to be made an example of. Several days ago (December 20th) G-Unit rapper Young Buck was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. The charge stems after Buck allegedly stabbed a man on November 15th during the filming of the Vibe Awards. His arraignment hearing is scheduled for January 14th at the Airport Branh Courthouse in Los Angeles.
Buck was identified by investigators on the Vibe Awards' videotape as being one of several who assaulted Jimmy James Johson. Mr. Johnson allegedly punched Dr. Dre and may be found guilty of starting the whole melee. His arraignment hearing will be held on January 10th. Man, first Yayo and now Buck. It seems like the Gorilla Unit are personifying what they talk about in their records and there is some sort of respect for walking how you talk. | | | | Subscribe RSS |

Edan has always been known for his esoteric notions, both on stage and on record, and given his eccentricism fans keep coming back for more. Reflective of Edan's presence will be his new album Beauty And The Beat which is slated to blast your ears on March 29th. Although each of the 13 beats on the LP are crafted by Edan himself, he's enlisted the help of Mr. Lif, Insight, and one of his favorite emcees, Percee P, to help him with the lyrics. The full-length will also feature the previously released single, "I See Colours," and as we've come to expect from this Bostonian, this will be a fusion of golden-era hip-hop, jazz, rock, and any other type of music with a beat. | | | | Subscribe RSS |

After months of rumors, reports today confirm that Roc-A-Fella Records, home to some of the game's all-stars, has been sold. Hova and Dame Dash, who have denied such speculations of sale and bad blood for months, sold the popular label to Def Jam Records for a reported $10 million. Furthermore, Jay has been named both president and CEO of Def Jam. Although Def Jam had bought a chunk of the Roc back in '97, they have now purchased the last 50% owned by Jigga, Dash, and Kareem "Biggs" Burke. Currently, Jay is in negotiations with Def Jam for a head spot, may start a new label in conjunction with Warner Music and longtime business partner Lyor Cohen, and should also be releasing an album under the moniker S.Carter. Dash will continue with Dash Films, his production house, and Roc-A-Wear Clothing. Wonder how Kanye, Free, and Beanie are taking the news? | | | | Subscribe RSS |

Okay, after Shyne's album made during incarceration- Godfather Buried Alive- flopped like a fatman off a diving board, he's got to do something to game-up. Although there are plenty of odd couples in showbiz right now (ie. Flav and Brigitte Nielsen), none may be queerer than that of Shyne and Mark Wahlberg. According to sources, the two have teamed up to produce a documentary about their lives and their differences. The duo does have a couple things in common: 1) both "were" rappers; and 2) both have spent time in jail, but the disparities should make for the bulk of the entertainment. The untitled project is still in production, but supposedly features Wahlberg speaking with Shyne and his fellow inmates from Clinton Correctional, as well as interviews with hip-hop all-stars. The film is slated to be out this coming summer in association with Shyne's 3rd LP, which will include beats by Alchemist, Kanye, and Just Blaze. | | | | Subscribe RSS |

It seems that all too often rappers will suffer the ultimate pain- having a record shelved by a label. Such has been the peril for Cormega, but almost 8 years after its initial release date, Mega's debut, The Testament, will be released early next year. Recorded when he was signed to Violator/Def Jam Records, this supposed '97 release got pushed back so many times that it lead to its shelving. Mega said in a statement, "It was my first deal, I just got out of jail and I had a lot of things on my mind. The album reflects where I was at that time in my life."
