Jailhouse Rap: Sheriff Doesn't Want You To C-Murder in His Prison2/25/05
By: VanStylez
In a recent performance behind bars, while decked out in his prison issued orange jumpsuit, Corey Miller, known to the rap world as C-Murder, spit venomous verses about racial profiling of blacks as part of the video for his upcoming album's lead single "Y'all Heard of Me." Apparently this posed a problem for Jefferson Parish Sheriff Harry Lee, who claims he wasn't aware of the filming until the Associated Press asked for an interview with Miller on Wednesday. Little did the Associated Press know that the interview they were going to get would be with the warden himself who added, "I'm not pleased…The only thing I'll say is he will not make another video while he's in my jail." The video will feature fellow Cash Money member B.G. performing in front of a crowd at the housing projects where Miller's brothers Percy a.k.a. Master P and Vyshonne a.k.a. Silkk the Shocker were raised. Miller's lawyer Ron Rakosky said the footage was being recorded with the approval of the sheriff's office by film crews from Court TV and another local cable-access program. Miller has spent the last three years in the pen after being convicted in 2003 of second-degree murder for the killing of 16 year old Steve Thomas at the Platinum Club in Harvey, Louisiana on January 12, 2002. The conviction was overturned last April and Miller is currently awaiting a new trial. Miller's 17 track album The Truest Shit I Ever Said is scheduled to be released on March 22.

Bad To The Bone: Arrest Warrant Issued After Krayzie Skips Court2/25/05
By: VanStylez
Bone Thugs N' Harmony's Krayzie Bone, born Anthony Henderson, was issued an arrest warrant Wednesday after he failed to appear for a plea hearing at the Butler County Common Pleas Court in Ohio. This is only the latest segment in the ongoing child support battle Henderson has been waging over the past three years. Henderson, who is 31 and currently resides in Los Angeles, had begrudgingly forked over $40,000 to his baby's mother once a paternity test revealed he was the father. He has since disputed the results and only when the Butler County Child Support Enforcement Agency brought the case to prosecutor's attention in 2002, did Henderson dish out another $35,000, narrowly escaping the grand jury. The current plea hearing stems from Henderson's no show in court last August after being indicted on two counts of fifth-degree felony, nonsupport of dependents charges, for discontinued child support payments since 2002. Unfortunately for Henderson who could have paid off what he owed and possibly been put on probation, skipping court could result in up to 18 months imprisonment. Henderson's son is now 6 years old and my guess is that in another 10 years that kid is going to be mighty pissed when he discovers his Grammy award-winning father wasn't willing to throw down on his childhood development. In music news, Krayzie Bone's third solo release Gemini: Good vs. Evil was released earlier this month.

Quannum Conquers The Country2/25/05
By: VanStylez
Quannum emcee's The Gift of Gab and Lateef the Truth Speaker will be kicking off a North American tour on March 18. The tour which will last though May will feature Gift of Gab focusing on songs from his debut album Fourth Dimensional Rocketships Going Up, while Lateef plans to stick to material from his collabo with producer Chief Excel on the Marrons: Ambush album, along with cuts from his work with Lyrics Born as the group Latryx. Upon finishing the tour, Gift of Gab plans to link up with Chief Xcel to promote the new Blackalicious album The Craft. The Quannum crew will be getting attention beyond the road however, with a Blackalicious twist on an old Kurtis Blow song lending some hip-hop credibility to an upcoming Microsoft television spot. This commercial exposure won't be a first for Gab however, whose "Way of Light" was twice incorporated into recent international Diet Pepsi campaigns. It tickles me to think that while many distributors dismissed hip-hop in the not-so-distant past as taboo, they're now stuck on the culture like flies on sh*t when it comes to reaching consumers. In that same vein, it no longer takes an inner-city slum scene or a drive-by for viewers to peep rap music in the movies. Lateef's 2004 collaboration with Fatboy Slim "Wonderful Night" is set to appear on the soundtrack for the upcoming film Robots.

Jay-Z: Going Out Of Business…2/25/05
By: VanStylez
Yeah right! Hova announced Tuesday plans to open the S. Carter Academy in the big-apple this spring. A commercial starring Jigga and the New York Knicks' Jamal Crawford will kick off in March to promote the school which will be primarily for students interested in music, sports and fashion. Enrollment will begin that same month. In other not-so-new and/or surprising news, Jay-Z has announced plans to release yet another album, this time under his real name S. Carter (I guess by "retiring," Jay just meant the moniker). Meanwhile Jay has also had a hand in cementing the deal on the Biggie Brooklyn Mint clothing line, and one of the shirts even features Hova himself above the title "Brooklyn's Finest." This is of course all going down despite a recent lawsuit standoff with R. Kelly. Notwithstanding all the above along with his recent take-over as president and CEO of Def Jam, Jay has still somehow found time to return beef in a heated rhyme exchange between himself and The Game. Damn, for a guy who "retired" from rap less than a year ago, Jigga can't seem to keep his hand out of the hip-hop cookie jar.

New Game Cap Supports The United Negro College Fund2/25/05
By: VanStylez
It's always hot sh*t when hip-hop culture works in conjunction with a quality cause. New Era's Capture the Flag series allows artists to be designers while also choosing a worthy home for a portion of their products proceeds. Thursday's release of The Game endorsed red and black Capture the Flag 59FIFTY cap which comes complete with a wool visor, red satin lining, black wool base and black suede under-visor, can be viewed and purchased at www.neweracap.com. The front of the cap features a raised "B" surrounded by a circular label bearing The Game's Black Wall Street label and motto: "The Black Wall Street; Live for Everything, Die for Nothing." Adorning the back is the label's logo, and as a bonus Gangsta-esque twist, even includes a hidden stash pocket inside. Past celebrity designers have included Fabolous and Fat Joe, and will continue with the Sacramento King's Chris Webber on April 28. A portion of the revenue from The Game's hat will benefit the United Negro College Fund. In other Game news…JT The Bigga Figga plans to release the second segment of unreleased The Game tracks recorded before the artist was picked up by Aftermath/G-Unit. JT is featured on 9 of the 14 tracks composing West Coast Resurrection which will be released by his own Get Low Records as a follow up to Untold Story and prelude to a time before the Billboard topping The Documentary.

Ladies Love Cool J Sues For Us By Us2/25/05
By: VanStylez
James Todd Smith, who is better known as LL Cool J, is filing a lawsuit against FUBU for not compensating him fully for the years he's spent endorsing the brand. FUBU was founded in Smith's home town of Hollis, Queens in 1992 by CEO Daymond John, who took out a $100,000 loan against his house to begin producing the line along with Carl Brown, J Alexander Martin, and Keith Perrin. In 1993 Smith became the poster-boy for the brand which just last year grossed about $380 million. Smith who had his own clothing line in the 80's called Troop, is currently creating his new James Todd Smith line which he plans to introduce in more upscale retail shops.

50 Cent Gets Sirius2/25/05
By: VanStylez
Sirius Satellite announced Thursday that 50 Cent will co-host "G Unit Radio" with DJ Whoo Kid beginning on Saturdays in March on Shade 45. For those of you who aren't up to speed, Shade 45 is an uncensored rap channel which was launched on Sirius this past October. The channel is co-hosted by Eminem and provides a viable alternative to an increasingly risqué public rap radio environment, especially since the FCC raised the fine per indecency on the airwaves from $35,000 to $500,000 this month. With the most profitable label in hip-hop joining the satellite station alongside Howard Stern, I for one am kicking myself in the ass for not having cashed in on some Sirius stock sooner.

Road-Trippin' With Quas2/23/05
By: Food Stamp
Besides being a hunchbacked freak, Quasimoto, the rapper that goes unseen, is more known for his high-pitched verbals than his freakish nature (arguably so). It looks like Lord Quas (if you don't know this is Madlib) is coming strong with his sophomore release The Further Adventures Of Lord Quas which will bless your ears on May 3rd. The album is stacked with 27 tracks and is a complete Madlib Invazion on the boards. Collabs will come by way of M.F. DOOM and fellow Stones Throw brethren M.E.D. on this release, one that will be nothing short of ethereal. In other news from the ST camp, Oh No, Pecee P, and Wildchild are about to embark on a 21-stop European tour starting this Friday.

How To Rob: 500 Angry Fans Blow 9 Grand On Fake DMX Show2/16/05
By: VanStylez
After around 500 fans blew an estimated 9 grand on tickets to see DMX at the Orr Building on Illinois State Fairgrounds on Saturday February 5, it was discovered they all had been duped…oops! To make the scam sting even worse, it wasn't discovered until 9:30pm the night of the show that the devious duo who had posed as Ruff Ryder management, had stepped outside for an "emergency phone call," and bounced with all the cash. I guess the two had been pretty convincing considering they had hired local police, advertised on Kiss 99.7, and hired a limousine to take them from a hotel they weren't staying at, to a concert no one was playing at. Meanwhile DMX was in Arizona recording his upcoming album. Damn…looks like these cats graduated magna-cum-laude with double majors in acting and business.

No More Mind Tricks For Jus Allah2/11/05
By: Food Stamp
It seemed as if something was missing from Jedi Mind Tricks' Visions Of Ghandi and Legacy Of Blood LP's. It wasn't dope beats, we know Stoupe had that locked; it wasn't the bellicose microphone fire, we know that Vinnie Paz blessed that; but what the albums were missing was the stormy consciousness of Jus Allah. News from Babygrande today is that Jus Allah and his other two JMT counterparts have reconciled and will again be making music together. Jus and Babygrande also reached an agreement this morning to release Jus' solo album in May. Furthermore, Jus Allah will also be included on the long-awaited and highly anticipated Army of the Pharoahs' album, The Torture Papers. JMT and Babygrande seem quite happy about the reconciliation noting, "We've missed him and his creativity. Welcome home."

B.I.G. Mints Some Hot Threads2/10/05
By: Food Stamp
In 1997, The Notorious B.I.G. was shot and murdered, and in the tragedy's wake there was a passionate wave of sorrow. The preceding year is the one that Biggie started and conceptualized his own clothing line, Brooklyn Mint, but before the launch of the line his life came to a sullen end. After seething attempts to bring to justice her son's murderers, Voletta Wallace has embarked on building the line herself. On March 9th, a day that marks the 8-year anniversary of the BK rapper's death, Brooklyn Mint will be releasing its line of tees. The full line will be in stores in 2006 and will be inspired by the "culture and diversity" of Brooklyn. One of the line's first tees features the image of Jay-Z tagged "Brooklyn's Finest." Although every rapper has tried to capitalize on the clothing end of things with mixed results, expect B.I.G.'s posthumous line to make big waves.

Ras Kass Adheres To Caution2/10/05
By: Food Stamp
It seems like G-Unit's bread and butter has been the full exploitation of the beef gimmick (check 50's highly blabbed about "Piggy Bank" where he shoots at everyone), using it to propel sales even further up. Recently, fresh out da pen Ras Kass has denied that he dissed G-Unit/Aftermath rapper The Game on his mixtape joint "Caution." A great deal of the issue comes from the song's lines, "Fools is acting like they what I always was/ West Coast lyricist with East Coast love/ you was made to run/ get a thousand tattoos and won't raise your gun/ so when you get merked I'ma raise your son/ Ras is a son of a beeyatch, you the son of a coward/ your pops went to jail got f*cked in the shower."

Ras admitted that the track was not aimed at any artist particularly, but "If the shoe fits, find a matching skirt." He further noted that he would never poke at someone's kid as The Game's son appears frequently in the artwork of The Documentary. Similarities between the song and The Game stem from The Game's Compton upbringing and his love on the right coast. Either way, Ras plans to lace us with beaucoup joints like "Caution."

Sway & King Tech Get Basic2/10/05
By: Food Stamp
Arguably, once Sway left Tech and the eternally loved Wake Up Show for his MTV future, not much has gone on musically for the pair. Noted for breaking artists on their highly syndicated radio show and their premier LP, the duo is set to release their sophomore joint Back 2 Basics. The album features the verbal likeness of Canibus, Common, Royce, Self Scientific, Kam and plenty of other up-and-coming talent. "It's going to help open the door of innovation and expansion. Projects like this will come out to balance a lot of this cookie cutter, quick-fix music that is out," noted Sway in a statement. The album is set to release in May and will feature the sonic blessings of DJ Premier, DJ Khalil, Kwame, Jake One, DJ Revolution, Hispanik and several others.

Master P And Silkk The Shocker Face Felony Gun Charges2/3/05
By: VanStylez
After pulling over Master P and brother Silkk the Shocker near the UCLA campus at 11:20pm last Thursday for having no license plate, the LAPD discovered two loaded guns in their leased Chrysler 300. Both brothers were arrested and charged with felony weapon possession and have been released on $35,000 bond each. No court dates have been set. Meanwhile, KOCH Records will release P's other brother C-Murder's new album The Truest Shit I Ever Said on March 22nd. The album is being served up from prison where C-Murder is doing time for an August 2001 shooting at a Baton Rouge Club. For better or worse, it just goes to show that a little jail time is only a bump in the rode for these dirty south brothers.

Hot 97 Attempts To Make The Heat Die Down2/3/05
By: VanStylez
Hot 97 and Emmis Communications have announced the termination of comedian Todd Lynn and producer Rick Delgado from the "Miss Jones in the Morning" show. Former producer of the now defunct "Opie and Anthony" show, which happened to be scrapped for indecency, Delgado was fired for writing, producing and airing the "Tsunami Song" parody of the 1985 single "We Are the World." Lynn was fired for both participating in singing the song, along with making his own comments about killing Asians. In addition, Emmis plans to donate $1 million to the Tsunami Relief organization Give2Asia. Other members of the show, Miss Jones, DJ Envy and Tasha Hightower have each been given two week suspensions, with their salaries being redirected to Give2Asia till they return to the show on February 9. Asian co-host Miss Info who refused to take part in the song was not suspended. As a major player in the broadcast media, the fact that Hot 97 is reinstating anyone remotely involved with airing a song mocking victims of such a serious catastrophe is, in my opinion, sending a dangerous message.

Lawsuit Remix: Countersuit Alleges Doggfather Guilty Of Rape2/1/05
By: VanStylez
Only weeks after a preemptive lawsuit in which Snoop claimed he was being targeted in an extortion scam, the woman in question, Emmy Award winning make-up artist and 2002 Emmy winner for her acting in HBO's Six Feet Under, Kylie Bell filed a counter lawsuit at the Los Angeles Superior Court. Bell alleges that Snoop and four associates drugged and raped her in his dressing room after Snoop co-hosted ABC's Jimmy Kimmel show in January 2002. Bell is seeking $25 million through a legal document naming ABC News, the Kimmel show, and Walt Disney Company as defendants, partially liable because the room was allegedly stocked with "large quantities" of champagne and marijuana. A settlement had been reached in October 2004 however; the alleged deal fell apart on January 18, when Snoop's insurance company refused to foot the bill.

Legendary Status, Finally…2/1/05
By: Food Stamp
If you live in NYC then you know Percee P. He's probably handed you his headphones or turned up his speakers so that you can taste his freshness outside of Fatbeats. For years holmes has been hustling, and after all his legendary battles (see Percee P vs. Lord Finesse), and dues paid, Percee is getting his just status as a legend. Legendary Status, which is an aggregate of his freestyles, older joints, and even some new fiyah, should be hitting the streets soon and don't be surprised if Perc is moving sh*t himself. And, this is just a bit to get your mouth salivating before he drops the Madlib produced full-length on Stones Throw. Look for the first single from that album to drop this spring on ST. Talk about someone who has been on the grind…for decades. Deserved, yes; anticipated, yes; hotness, yes.

Roscoe Returns From The Dead2/1/05
By: VanStylez
Kurupt's brother/rapper Roscoe, narrowly escaped death on January 2 when a 19-year-old female drunk driver, collided with him and his three passengers causing their car to flip twice through traffic before being wedged between two cars. Roscoe sustained injuries to his collarbone and head and was pronounced dead by on-site paramedics and toe-tagged only to begin breathing 15 minutes later. Talk about f*cking up… those paramedics must feel like serious asses! Miraculously Roscoe is currently at home recovering. Here at UGHH.com we wish him a swift recovery and can't wait to cop his upcoming mixtape, Cali Untouchable Radio Pt. 5: YA.

#1 Selling Album…But Is It Worth The Price???2/1/05
By: VanStylez
Following the G-Unit/Aftermath blueprint, where acting out the hardcore image has been an integral part of building a buzz in the industry for rappers Eminem, 50 Cent and just recently, Young Buck, it is no wonder that following the release of his album The Documentary, The Game is facing allegations that he and his entourage assaulted Maryland radio host Xzulu after appearing on a radio show in which the DJ made a comment about his manager Jimmy "Henchmen" Rosemond's mobile phone earpiece. This incident follows a recent shooting at The Game's Compton six home mini-compound / headquarters for his label Black Wall Street. If these allegations prove true, it will seem that the five bullets The Game often reminisces on receiving during a botched robbery at his dope house on the outskirts of Compton in November of 2001, weren't enough of a wake-up call to convince him to steer clear of the gangsta lifestyle.

Who Shot Ya? Lil' Kim's Manager Says He Did It!2/1/05
By: VanStylez
Lil Kim's manager Damion Butler pleaded guilty last Friday to his part in a shootout in front of Hot 97's New York offices on February of 2001. Prosecutors accuse Butler and bodyguard Suif Jackson of shooting at the Capone-N-Noriega camp following heated words over the CNN song "Bang, Bang" which features Foxy Brown giving Lil' Kim a tongue lashing. Kim who has appeared before a grand jury three times claiming Butler was not present during the incident, and that she didn't even know Jackson (whom prosecutors point out, she has thanked as a member of the Junior Mafia in her album's liner notes), claims to have left before the shooting, despite reports that a surveillance camera caught her limo fleeing the scene with the gunman. Kim is free on $500,000 bail, and will stand trial along with Jackson and friend Monique Dopwell on Feb. 28.

ODB's Mom Sues Over Dirty Exploitation2/1/05
By: VanStylez
ODB's Mom and former manager Jarred Wesfeld have filed a $1.8 million lawsuit against AGU Entertainment, claiming the firm failed to follow through with written obligations to produce a DVD documenting ODB's life as he re-recorded his latest studio album, while continuing to use ODB's name to attract investors. ODB had signed a recording contract with Roc-A-Fella Records shortly before an accidental overdose of cocaine and a prescription painkiller this past November. Look out for the upcoming posthumous album titled The Party, which is scheduled to be released this spring through Damon Dash's new label, Damon Dash Music Group featuring production from the Neptunes and RZA.
