New LB's Free Download2/26/07
By: The Dance
(Better late than never. We forgot to post this earlier. Oh well.. here's the article which The Dance sent me two weeks ago ~Trees) The loss of 9th Wonder hasn't slowed Little Brother down. Phonte and Big Pooh are back on the scene with a new mixtape called "And Justus For All." Maybe the whole DJ Drama drama has them shook because the duo has opted to release the mixtape as a free download instead of stacking that mixtape scrilla for a new chain to hang low. You can download the mixtape at the following sites: www.rappersiknow.com, www.hallofjustus.com, www.mickboogie.com.

Forgot About Dre?2/22/07
By: The Dance
Forgot about Dre? Well, the veteran producer and hip hop pioneer is taking steps to refresh your memory. On Big Boy's Power 106 radio show in Los Angeles, Dr. Dre recently confirmed that the long-awaited Detox album will drop this year. He said, I'm trying to get everybody that I've ever worked with over the years to appear on the records. I'm tryna put 12, 13 songs on the album. I'm not totally sure about the month but it will be definitely be out this year. Look out for this one, it could be "B-A-N-A-N-A-S" or it could be crap, whatever.

J-Zone Breaks It Down2/22/07
By: The Dance
Disillusioned hip hop fans of the world unite, J-Zone has come to the rescue to voice your concerns! In a recent blog on his MySpace page Captain Backslap outlined the top 5 reasons why hip hop is on the decline: 1. Clans, Posses, Crews and Cliques 2. Too Much Music 3. Too Cool to have Fun/No Balance in Rap 4. Law and Order 5. The Internet. If the headlines themselves don't get you fiending, I must say that this article is one of the most well-written and accurate pieces I have read concerning the current state of rap music, clearly J-Zone knows his shit. Clearly UGHH also knows it's shit because J-Zone is hosting the next installment of Fresh Produce, which is popping off this Saturday night (2/24). Come see the man himself and get it crackin with real hip hop fans at Boston's hottest of soirees.

El-P Afraid Of Flying?2/22/07
By: Trees
Describing the team up for Flyentology, the new single off of his I'll Sleep When You're Dead album, El-Producto was all smiles. "Working with Trent was amazing. I've been a huge fan for years and first worked with him when he asked me to remix the NIN song 'Only.' I think he's a genius and one of the few out there that has truly crafted his own style -- often imitated, never beaten. Bringing him into my soundscape was something I wanted to do for a long time, and i think it worked incredibly."

The story behind Flyentology is nothing short of incredible. It was written by El-P after he experienced a near fatal plane crash. The emcee/producer has always had an intense fear of flying, and his worst nightmare came true on a recent flight. Shortly after take-off, one of the engines exploded and the plane had to make a rough emergency landing. In the aftermath of the traumatic incident, El-P reexamined his thoughts on faith and religion. "I realized that my spiritual life exists only while on planes. During the experience I found myself praying, and I don't even know how to pray. So this is my song about religion, which I think a lot of people can relate to. It's my admittance of being an asshole who thinks he's better than God until the very moment when I realize that not only am I not, but I really, really want God to love me and take care of me,"
The Adult Swim produced music video will premier on Comedy Central soon. I'll Sleep When You're Dead will be released on March 20th and features guest appearances from The Mars Volta, Aesop Rock, Cage, Cat Power, and is available @ UGHH w/ a FREE DJ Food Stamp Essential El-P CD. Cop it.

M.O.P. Gettin' That Shady Subliminal Advertising Scrilla2/22/07
By: Trees
M.O.P. is getting their drank on with Sizzurp. The Mash Out Posse will promote Sizzurp with product placement in new song lyrics, music videos, and while on tour worldwide with tour van wraps, stage banners and on-stage pours. M.O.P. is about to launch their first worldwide tour after being signed by 50 Cent for his label G-Unit. G-Unit will distribute the new CD, which is expected to be released in May 2007.

The music from "7:30," M.O.P.'s first song to be released from the new CD, has been picked up by CBS Sports for their basketball broadcasts and the New York Knicks, both of which are using the music in their "sound beds." The video for "7:30," which has Sizzurp placed in the video, is now being re-edited for MTV and is expected to be broadcast nationally by March 1, 2007.

Sizzurp is the first product to roll out from Straight Up Brands following their recent acquisition of Rappin Brands. Sizzurp, a Purple Punch Liqueur, is a blend of premium imported cognac, vodka and exotic fruit juices. In related news, I'm officially sponsored by Steel Reserve.

Beanie Sigel Saga Continues2/22/07
By: Trees
More developments in the saga that is Beanie Sigel's criminal history. Yesterday Prosecutors extended probation for the rapper after he failed to inform his probation officer that he was recently stopped TWICE by Philly police while driving around with convicted felons (i.e. his friends?). Mack also tested positive for codeine and morphine in a December drug test. Oh Beanie! The probation stems from an earlier arrest in 2003 when he was involved in a police chase and officers found a stolen gun, a cache of prescription drugs, and a small bag of marijuana in the vehicle.

Special Teamz Signs With Duckdown Records2/21/07
By: Trees
Duckdown Records, home of the Boot Camp Clik, have taken another step towards label supremecy. Late last night papers were signed by Boston based hip hop supergroup Special Teamz officially adding the group to the heavily respected independent label. Special Teamz, which consists of rap legend Edo.G, Slaine (of La Coka Nostra), JaySaun (of the Kreators), and DJ JayCeeOh have been generating a huge buzz since they dropped their debut mixtape in the fall of 2005. The 'as yet untitled' album is slated for a summer 2007 release and will feature production from some of hip hop's most notable names, including DJ Premier and Pete Rock. No word on whether or not we can expect to see the likes of Heltah Skeltah, Buckshot, Smif N Wessun, or O.G.C. rhyming along side the trio on the album, but the probability is very high at this point. Stay tuned to UGHH for further developments on this breaking story.

Cage Show in Ann Arbor Ends in Chaos2/12/07
By: Trees
A near riot broke out over the weekend at a Cage show at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor MI when an announcement was made over the PA that Cage was denied entrance and the show was over. The crowd stood in disbelief until the house lights lit up and security began ushering people out. Things took a turn for the worse as the unruly crowd began chanting: "Fuck the Bling Pig" and security began violently forcing people to leave the venue. No word on whether the Ann Arbor police will be investigating the situation, but Cage did issue a statement on the event via his MySpace page:

"I was denied entry over not bringing I.D. I have played hundreds of shows and I have never had to show my I.D. unless I was drinking. I left my wallet at the hotel. I have never had a club break my balls. I was unable to perform because I was being fucked with for reasons I do not know. I would like to applaud the meat head security team and management that ruined everything and could later be seen flinging teenagers into walls when they began shouting fuck the blind pig and refund. I have never seen anything like this in my life. I want to apologize to everyone that paid to get in and or were attacked by the blind pig security. Young college kids are great to beat on eh pigs? A Fucking Shame it was packed."

50 Cent Drops Diss Video Towards Killa Cam'ron, Teenagers on Internet Go Nuts!2/10/07
By: Trees
In other hip hop(?) news 50 Cent and Cam'ron are up to their old tricks again. With another 50 LP on the horizon, I was wondering who would be the next rapper to fall victim to the "King Of Connecticut's" marketing tactics. Well, it appears to be Dipset honcho Killa Cam. I can never get enough rap beef. What year is this? Anyway not that any of you haven't seen it by now but "Funeral Music is a video and single by rapper 50 Cent that first debuted Feburary 9, 2007 at 12:00 AM. It was a "diss" song to Cam'ron. After only 15 hours, the internet website, YouTube, was talkin about puting the video in the YouTube Hall Of Fame and they said it was one of the most viewed videos on the website. It received over 23 Youtube honors in less than 13 hours. After less than 20 hours, the video had already recieved over 220,000 views." Judge for yourself: Click Here

Dujeous Crankin' Out Hits..2/10/07
By: Trees
Dujeous members Dave Guy and Taylormade have teamed up with Chicago MC Rhymefest to craft the theme for the new season of everyone's favorite puppet-laden prank call show, "Crank Yankers," on MTV2. The appropriately off-the wall song features the lush trumpets of Guy and hard-edged production wizardry of Taylormade, while Kanye West affiliate Rhymefest weaves in and out of the beat, dropping his patented sidesplitting rhymes. The result is straight bonkers, big band meets boom-bap. Tune in for the loony tune when the new season of "Crank Yankers" premieres next Friday, February 9th, at 10 PM EST on MTV2. And in case you missed it, download the exclusive Mark Ronson remix of Lily Allen's smash hit "Smile" featuring Dujeous by clicking here. (Credit: Dujeous MySpace)

Bun B and Barbara Bush?2/10/07
By: Trees
What does Bun B, Barbara Bush, Richard Linklater and Larry Dierker all have in common? They're all Underground Ground Kings? Nah, they are all hosting various screenings of movies at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. The series, entitled "Movies Houstonians Love" will have Bun B performing Master of Ceremony duties at a special screening of Style Wars in the auditorium of the Houston MFA. Bun B will introduce the film and give a little talk about hip hop and it's beginnings - in New York and for him. The film will be shown and afterwards Bun B will take questions from the audience. He's also bringing in Kay Slay who was in the film Style Wars as a youth and is now one of hip hop's top DJ's. It's nice to see Bun B giving a little something back to the culture.
