C-Rayz Mentors On MTV4/14/05
By: Food Stamp
It's always nice when you get to see one of your underground rhyming superheroes championing on MTV. It looks like freestyle-fanatic, the real metaphor-maniac, reppin' Stronghold Crew to the full, C-Rayz Walz has gotten picked up to be a freestyle mentor on MTV's Made. For an entire month Rayz will be doing verbal push-ups and microphone mathematics with an emcee from Minneapolis in order to get him doing his battle thing. The episode will air on June 10th and you'll get to watch C-Rayz take a no-name emcee and try to get him into a big time battle.

Rappers Among World's 100 Most Influential People4/14/05
By: VanStylez
Time magazine has delivered the final blow to all those skeptical and/or scared sh*tless middle-aged moms and pops who had spent the 90's hoping hip-hop culture would be nothing more than a passing phase without any serious social significance. The reputable magazine has diminished this misconception by naming Outkast, Jay-Z and Kanye West, three of the world's 100 most influential people. Along with these hip-hop luminaries, the list also includes actors, buck-tooth politicians, fugitives, talk show hosts and white collar criminals such as Martha Stewart, Jamie Foxx, Clint Eastwood, Oprah Winfrey, Secretary of State: Condoleezza Rice and terrorist leader: Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. In a statement made to the Associated Press, Time's editor revealed that the reason the magazine chose such an eclectic mix of people is that "influence can be defined in a myriad of ways." Although recent Reebok ads and SoundScan statistics leave me skeptical over which artists actually harbor the most influence, parents should be thanking their lucky stars that Kanye and Outkast made the list over the criminally minded chart toppers from the G-Unit camp.

50 Cent And The Game Give Back To The Community4/14/05
By: VanStylez
The Game and 50 Cent donated checks totaling $200,000 last Thursday April 7, to the Compton Unified School District to benefit the district's floundering arts and music program. The District Superintendent, Jesse Gonzales was extremely appreciative announcing, "This magnificent donation couldn't have come at a better time. For the first time in many years, we can purchase musical instruments and provide music programs for our elementary school students." The Game pointed out that his label Black Wall Street, is all about "Building an empowerment within our community," and added, "I've seen first hand what music can do so I'm hoping this can make a difference in people's lives." Fitty' Cent added his 50 cents saying, "G-Unit's goal is to lend a hand to the people who need it most. This donation is just the beginning of what we're hoping to do." The Game and 50 Cent held it down for the east coast also last month, donating a total of $253,500 to the Boys Choir of Harlem after announcing a cease-fire to their pseudo-beef. While the less inspiring gangsta image clearly had a huge part in catapulting these two superstars to their current money making platforms, it's good to see they're donating at least some of that "Blood" money (figuratively & literally…think: The Game) to quality causes.

GZA Aboard At Babygrande4/5/05
By: Food Stamp
Aight, we know that Babygrande Records has been making big moves in the last few years. They've reunited Jedi Mind members, dropped a nice Brand Nubian LP, picked up a deal with Immortal Technique, and now have announced a signed deal with the GZA. Noted for being the poetic and lyrical genius of the Wu-Tang Clan, GZA will now bring his touted vernacular to Babygrande in the form of GZA Presents. This album should manifest as an official Maximillion mixtape with the deal potentially leading in the direction of his fourth LP. Look for this to drop later this year and keep your fingers crossed that Babygrande's in-house producers, mainly Stoupe of JMT, will eventually be blessing The Genius with some grimy heatrocks that harken back to the day of Wu-Tang prominence. Stay tuned to www.gza-genius.com (coming soon) and UGHH.com for more information.

Diamond D Still Diggin'4/5/05
By: Food Stamp
When Diamond D dropped Stunts, Blunts, & Hip-Hop he had people going crazy while he boasted the title of "best-producer-on-the-mic." It's been well over a decade since its drop and the BX bred emcee/producer has been busy ever since lacing joints for ATCQ, Busta Rhymes, Pharcyde, and The Fugees as well as several solo projects. It looks like the D.I.T.C. member will be blessing us this fall with his new LP Needful Things. Set to appear on the album are the likes of Slum Village, Grand Puba, Jay Dee, Nottz, Fat Joe as well as other producers. Also in the works for D is the new D.I.T.C. album which, although highly rumored, is set to happen possibly this summer. Fat Joe has admitted to signing a deal with Lord Finesse for the album, and as of now the crew, if they can all get in the studio, will try to make up for their semi-disappointing first release with a rugged newborn LP. As of now Diamond is shopping Needful Things to some majors, but is fully willing to drop it on his own (much like his first classic release).

Crime Doesn't Pay For Shyne4/5/05
By: VanStylez
Damn, it never paid to be a Bad Boy for Shyne. The drama began when Shyne and a crew including Bad Boy CEO P-Diddy and Diddy's then girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez, got into a dispute with patron Matthew "Scar" Allen, in Club New York back in ‘99. Gunfire ensued, leaving two people shot, while others were injured in a rush for the exits. Shyne eventually admitted to letting off shots in "self-defense" and was sentenced to ten years after being convicted on two counts of assault, reckless endangerment and gun possession. The same trial had far more desirable results for Diddy, who was acquitted thanks to a top notch defense team spearheaded by Johnnie Cochran (RIP). Now 26-years old and serving time at Clinton Correctional Facility, Shyne is again getting shafted in more ways than one, after a Brooklyn Supreme Court Judge cited the "Son of Sam Law" in his ruling to have the payola Shyne makes off his deal with Island Def Jam, including all royalties from his latest album Godfather: Buried Alive, held in an escrow account under the statute that bars convicted offenders from profiting off the crimes they have committed. Keep it locked on UGHH.com to find out if this has any effect on Shyne's plans to link up with Mark Wahlberg for a documentary they had planned to release in conjunction with Shyne's third LP next summer.
