| Super Chron Flight Brothers Emerge | 4/26/07 |
| | By: Trees Billy Woods & Priviledge are the Super Chron Flight Brothers, the duo are both members of The Reavers collective and dropped the MF DOOM produced 12? Dirtweed earlier this year. Emergency Powers; the world tour is their debut LP and it features guest appearances by Cannibal Ox, Trife da God, Marq Spekt & The Reavers, as well as production by MF DOOM, Nasa & Bond. Politically charged, lyrically inclined and unmistakably weed-scented, Emergency Powers is the Flight Brothers driving a truck bomb into underground hip-hop. Customers ordering from UGHH get a brand new project from Backwoodz Studioz in-house producer James Bond called Tour Support. A 32 track blend of instrumentals, Super Chron remixes, mash-ups and exclusive non-album cuts, as well as guest appearances from Megalon of Monsta Island Czars, Marq Spekt, Vordul Mega, Goldenchild, HiCoup and The Presence, Tour Support is the definition of a great bonus item. | | | | Subscribe RSS |

| Phat Kat Makes An Impact On New LP | 4/26/07 |
| | By: Trees Whatchu know about First Down, the rap duo comprised of Ronnie Cash and a young Jay Dee? If you're either a rap geek or a Detroit city native, you probably know a thing or two. Ronnie Cash, for those that don't know, is now known as Phat Kat and Jay Dee is of course the legendary J Dilla. First Down put Phat Kat on the map in the early 90s and solidified himself as a heavyweight Detroit spitter. Since the First Down days, Phat Kat has been staying busy building his rep. He appeared on the Representing The Streets compilation with the now-classic "Front Street," contributed to albums by Dilla and Slum Village, and in 2004, after inking a deal with Barak, he released his first solo album The Undeniable LP. Phat Kat is now set to release a new solo effort entitled Carte Blanche. Carte Blanche marks the first time Phat Kat has had complete creative control over his own project, and let me tell you.. the project turned out dope. As a Detroit veteran, Phat Kat could have had his choice of mainstream Detroit MCs on his project, dude gets respect like that. He instead chose to shift focus to the up-and-comers. "The people I got on my album is just as hot as people that's out," explained Phat Kat. And with appearances and production from Black Milk, Guilty Simpson, J Dilla, Young RJ, and Slum Village who could argue that?
"We all knew Detroit hip-hop had some real lyricists, more than the drug dealing, violent types that everyone assumed Detroit would be full of and whether it was in 5 or 15 years the songs we were putting down would get their due. Unfortunately for Dilla, he had to be gone for people to come out and say he was the greatest I've always said that," says Phat Kat. In the wake of Dilla's passing and with the national spotlight securely focused on Detroit Hip-Hop for more than a minute now, Phat Kat puts it on his shoulders "To give the world a crash course of Detroit Hip-Hop. This is what it is." Look for Carte Blanche, May 8th.

| New LPs From Yak Ballz, Slow Suicide, and more FloSpot News | 4/26/07 |
| | By: Trees Last year when we received our initial copies of the now classic first Slow Suicide Stimulus album, I remember thinking ‘These guys are going to be big'. Since that time the group has been touring relentlessly, garnering fame and accolades worldwide. Luckily, I've been able to keep in contact with the crew even during their busy touring schedule. Slow Suicide member Charlie Chan recently sent me an email with an update on his FloSpot Records family. I told him I'd pass along the word and things certainly look busy for the upcoming months.
First off, Slow Suicide Stimulus and Yak Ballz have been confirmed to open for El-P during his ISWYD North American Tour. The tour starts May 1st in Boston (you know I'll be thurr). Next up, Yak Ballz, who is currently working on his FloSpot debut, Scifentology 2. Described as "Yak's breakout album". Scifentology 2 drops 7/16/07 and features production from Camu Tao, Govone, Mondee and up and coming producer Chapter 7. Chan calls the album "str8 monkeyfood for Yak to show his fuckin skills. shits real blazin. We are amped on all the joints so far, which is basically 85% done". So far Tame One is the only confirmed guest appearance who apparently drops "one of the hottest 16s of 2007" on the album.
What else should we expect from FloSpot in 2007? Well, there is another Slow Suicide Stimulus LP in the early stages of recording and of course the much anticipated new Tame One solo album.
And finally, be on the look out for the FloSpot roster to shine on the new DJ Melski mixed STFU. A mixtape laced with never before heard material from Tame One, Cage, Camu Tao, Grandmaster Caz, Yak, Vast Aire, Ill Bill, and C-Chan, the Dusted Dons, Swel 79, live recordings from Yak and SSS, and gems from the SSS sessions. | | | | Subscribe RSS |

| Can Ox Not Broken Up | 4/10/07 |
| | By: Trees This past March when he was asked if a new Cannibal Ox record was coming out anytime soon Def Jux head El-P was quick to express his disappointment, stating "I really doubt it. The fact of the matter is that everyone has been crossing their fingers, including Def Jux, hoping that Cannibal Ox would get their shit together as a group, even to the point where I resigned them. I really hoped and prayed that they would get their shit together, thought they were at a certain juncture in time. At this point I can't pretend anymore or cover for those guys. They haven't been together for a long time, but they tried to get it back together again, but it's proving to be an impossible task."
A new album has been rumored almost since the day the Cold Vein hit stores in 2001 however since that El-P interview at the end of march, rumors have been spreading like a wildfire that group had finally disbanded for good. Vast Aire silenced all with a quick myspace blog revealing some interesting information about partner Vordul Mega, "Many people want to know what's been up with the follow up to our classic LP ‘Cold Vein' the truth is Vordul Mega (aka Shamar) has been suffering with clinical depression for years and this has hurt the progress of Cannibal Ox projects. Yes we are still friends and yes we do still record music. Some of our new music will be on my solo rec. Dueces Wild coming soon!! I hope this clears up any thoughts on us." | | | | Subscribe RSS |

| Unsigned MC? Scion's Here to Help | 4/10/07 |
| | By: Trees How can you hate Scion at this point? I don't care if you buy their cars or not they are one of the only major corporations that are constantly putting money into the independent scene. Their latest venture is a contest aimed at helping unsigned MCs get their name out there. The contest, entitled "The Prospect" gives contestants a chance to get into the recording studio with super producer HiTek and put them in front of the camera to create their own music video. Beginning April 9th, unsigned emcees will have one month to submit their fiercest song to scionprospect.com, with the hopes of becoming the next Prospect. A formidable judging panel including executive editor of The Source, Ryan Ford, Def Jam's Vice President of Artist & Repertoire, Lenny S and HiTek will review all eligible entries. These experienced players will be looking for the best flows and most imaginative lyrics to select one finalist in July 2007. Get your flows up kids and good luck. | | | | Subscribe RSS |

| | By: Trees Got an email from J-Zone the other day. I felt special until I realized it was the same letter he posted up in his new myspace blog. Regardless, I'll let Chief Chinchilla speak to ya. Here it is:
Check my lil feature, "The Big Bang", on page 28 of the May-June 2007 issue of SCRATCH in the "Crossover" section. No, "Crossover" doesn't refer to me making pop records with Brittney Spears, although her baldhead a** will call me about reviving her career any day now (Brittney + a J-Zone beat + Miracle Gro=Brittney on top again). Nor does it refer to a basketball move I used to do that has lost its effectiveness in my (getting older) age. Its a spotlight on me and my quest to bring $leazy Li$tening (porno music) to the forefront. That's right, I make bedroom (or backseat of the car, movie theater, etc.) soundtracks, so check me out. I'm the Beethoven of $leazy Li$tening...and don't y'all ever forget that. Available at all news stands this week (unless you live on the polar caps).

| JJ Brown Mashes Jackson 5 and Ludacris, Results = Very Good | 4/10/07 |
| | By: Trees If the Jackson 5 and Ludacris released an album together, the combined classic sound of Motown and the tongue-twisting flow of the southern rapper would sound a lot like Re-Release Therapy, the new mash-up album from acclaimed Brooklyn-based producer J.J. Brown. When Brown was a child, he dreamt of being the next Michael Jackson in the same way kids today wish to be the next Ludacris. Ultimately, the producer most notable for his work with indie hip hop favorite louis logic chose to re-work Luda's latest because the "soulful rapper" has the lyrical chops to hold his own next to the Jackson 5's musical legacy. Unlike many discordant mash-ups that conceptually sound like a good idea, Brown's effort doesn't just throw the two artists' sounds together. Better described as a harmonious match-up, Re-Release Therapy plays like an actual collaboration. "Re-Release Therapy be viewed as a full-scale production album where I virtually put Ludacris right into the studio with the Jackson 5," Brown said. "It's as if they were my orchestra and I got to play the conductor." The best part about this, is that you can download the whole thang for FREE.
