| Binary Star Reforming?? | 5/31/06 |
| | By: Damino One Be Lo (formerly known as OneManArmy) and Senim Silla have announced that they are reuniting as Binary Star for a show in Ann Arbor, Michigan. After dropping their masterpiece, Masters of the Universe, in 2000, the group disbanded, and with the popularity that One Be Lo has enjoyed in his solo ventures, the chances for a Binary Star reunion seemed slim. While there is no indication that this show will lead to a new Binary Star album, it is certainly an improvement from the note on the Binary Star myspace page which says, in part, "One Be Lo and and Senim no longer record, perform, or function in anyway as Binary Star." Despite this pronouncement, One Be Lo's personal tour calendar does explicitly state that the duo will be performing together for the June 9th gig, which will also feature a beat battle for aspiring producers. | | | | Subscribe RSS |

| Raekwon Signs To Aftermath | 5/30/06 |
| | By: Damino On May 28th, Wu-Tang Clan's official website, Wutangcorp.com, announced that Raekwon the Chef signed a deal with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Records. While it was widely known that Dre contributed beats for Rae's upcoming Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 project, and that recent Aftermath addition Busta Rhymes was acting as one of the album's Executive Producers, this contract should come as something of a surprise to many. Though the agreement's details are still somewhat murky, wutangcorp.com does confirm that OB4CL II will be released as a collaboration between Aftermath and one of Wu-Tang's enterprises (Wu Music Group or Wu-Tang Productions). While the pairing of a highly revered MC and a legendary producer would generally be cause for celebration, expect the streets to be up in arms on this matter, particularly in light of Aftermath's release of Rakim and the ever-growing wait for the new joint from Busta. | | | | Subscribe RSS |

| Royce & Primo Collabo | 5/26/06 |
| | By: Damino If you're like me, every Royce Da 5'9" album brings the same reaction: "It's nice, but it ain't Boom. Now, if Royce could just get some more Premier tracks on his record…". Well, the wait is almost over. According to mixtapedetroit.com (and reportedly Royce himself, while onstage in Chicago), Royce and DJ Premier are hard at work on Royce's forthcoming album, produced entirely by the Gangstarr DJ and underground demigod. The two expect an end of the year release for the album that heads all over have been dreaming about for years. And you thought the Christina Aguilera album meant Premier had sold out. Jokes on you, Jack. | | | | Subscribe RSS |

| Set Yo Tivo To Stunna! | 5/24/06 |
| | By: Trees The Bay area is the spot right now if you're down with the Hyphy movement. The Hyphy movement's origins are hotly contested, and to some hardcore hip hop heads it's meanings are obscured with confusion. For those that are looking to pick up a pair of Stunna shades and get down with the cause the hyphy movement is essentially hip hop music rowdier than the Dirty's crunk sound with all inhibitions stripped away. The movement has its own dances, slang, fashion and car culture (ghost ride the whip!). For those that are really trying to educate themselves on the Hyphy craze tune into BET next week as Rap City gets hyphy'd up. The schedule for the week long showcase is as follows: Monday 5/29/06 - Too Short: A Day in the Life. Tuesday 5/30/06 - Hyphy: A subculture of Hip Hop. Wednesday 5/31/06 - E-40: His second wind. Thursday 6/01/06 - Hieroglyphics & Davey D: The Past, Present, & Future. Friday 6/02/06 - Bay Area: The Road Map. Shake dem dreads! Yip Yip! | | | | Subscribe RSS |

| OutKast Gets Idlewild | 5/24/06 |
| | By: Damino By now you probably know that the soundtrack to Idlewild, the Prohibition-era film starring Andre 3000 and Big Boi, is scheduled for an August 22nd release- three days before the release of the film itself. However, unless you copped the May 26th issue of Entertainment Weekly, you might have missed some interesting news about the duo. While it should come as no surprise that EW paints OutKast as a group on the verge of a major schism, the article reveals that Dre and Big Boi currently record in different studios and further quotes Big Boi as stating, "That sh-t's f---ed up, for real", referring to Dre's unwillingness to tour as a member of OutKast. EW further reports that the duo only appears together in three of Idlewild's scenes and that the accompanying soundtrack features very few songs with vocals by both members. Ultimately, no one interviewed by EW is confident enough to explicitly predict the group's demise and since those interviewed include both Dre and Big Boi (and since we've heard this story before), I would wait to hear it from the horse's mouth. However, I thought you'd like to know. | | | | Subscribe RSS |

| | By: Trees Gnarls Barkley is my shit right now. Dangermouse is killin' the game and Cee-Lo has been that dude for a minute. But before Gnarls, there was DangerDOOM. The pairing of underground hip hop's heavyweight champ MF DOOM and Dangermouse brought us the hugely successful Mouse & The Mask LP last summer. For 2006, DangerDOOM is serving up newness for FREE. Adult Swim, responsible for the last DangerDOOM LP and the future Stones Throw roster album, is offering the new DangerDOOM EP on their website piece by piece. | Get Familiar With Kanye and Busta On Memorial Day | 5/16/06 |
| | By: Trees I've got to admit. Clinton Sparks is living the DJ's dream right now. Dude just signed a multi-million dollar syndication radio deal with Superadio, which means that Smashtime radio will now be broadcast worldwide. To commemorate the news Mr. Sparks has teamed up with Mr. West on his Memorial Day syndication jump off show. Kanye will be hanging out the entire length of the show and chopping it up on a variety of subjects; including his fascination with pornography, getting aroused while kissing Pamela Anderson during the filming of the Touch The Sky video (who wouldn't?) and drop some exclusive information on the new projects he is working on (Common, Consequence, Game and maybe even news about the much rumored Jay-Z comeback). He'll also be dropping a freestyle or two and some exclusive tracks and remixes.
In addition to doing it all, Clinton Sparks has also announced that Memorial Day means a new collaborative street album with Busta Rhymes entitled; New Crack City. The album, produced entirely by Clinton Sparks, features 24 brand new exclusive Busta tracks. This is of course to hype up Busta Rhyme's new LP on Aftermath, The Big Bang. Busta is showing the gods how to promote with this Big Bang shit. The dude's been hyping it for nearly two years and has dropped countless teaser singles, mixtapes, magazine covers, and interviews about it. Let the followers follow.

| Tribe Reunion Talks Heat Up Again | 5/16/06 |
| | By: Trees Pretty much since that day in 1998 when I opened my mailbox and saw the cover of the new Source magazine proclaiming that A Tribe Called Quest were disbanding I've been fiending for news of a reunion. They teased me a few years ago when they released the I.C.U. (Doin't It) 12inch with Erykah Badu and then teased me again when they announced an reunion LP release date of Winter 2004 (this was back in 2003). They also teased me with release dates about solo joints such as Q-Tip's Kamaal The Abstract, and his Open project. Now, Ali Shaheed is poppin' off about the possibility of a Tribe Reunion tour this fall. Here's what the former Tribe DJ had to say to MTV about the tour, ""We're looking at October, November. As far as doing any albums, there's still a question mark on that. We're not that far along yet. We're going to take these shows and see how it goes. Q-Tip is working on his next solo record; Phife is doing the same thing. I'm working on my second solo album. I know people are like, 'Enough with the solos. Can we get a Tribe joint?' For us, that kind of love makes us feel really good. We never knew that [after] all these years, people would be interested. When we disbanded, we never had any intentions of coming back." Hey yo Ali. People want another Tribe album.. How could you not know that? | | | | Subscribe RSS |

| J-Zone Shifts Focus To Production. Two New Projects This Summer | 5/10/06 |
| | By: Trees Fresh off the heels.. or uh.. hoof of his successful Bo$$ Hog project, the old maid billionaire J-Zone is back in the lab crafting two new projects for a summer time release. The first project drops in June and is titled Experienced!. This is a highly limited edition instrumental tribute to one of his all time favorite musicians, (he hasn't revealed who but I think it's obvious based on the title of the album.) The second project is a soundtrack to a nonexistent movie. What the hell do you mean by that J-Zone? ""I finished the soundtrack before I could get the movie done, so f*ck it. It has the music, a storyline, narrator, characters and is easy to follow, but there's no rappin'. It'd be dope if different people get a hold of it and add vocals for fun, maybe people do their own versions. I'm trying to focus only on production for now." | Slaine Goes Hollywood | 5/9/06 |
| | By: Trees Even without an official first album under his belt the Boston mic terrorist known as Slaine is already getting calls from Hollywood for movie roles. Slaine, who hails from Boston's notorious Irish south end, has been cast in a new movie entitled, ‘Gone, Baby, Gone'. Ben Affleck will make his directing debut on this adaptation of the novel Gone, Baby, Gone, by ‘Mystic River' author Dennis Lehane. This ain't no low budget joint either, Touchstone Pictures is dropping this film. Set to begin shooting this fall, the movie also features Ed Harris, Casey Affleck, and Michelle Monaghan. Slaine has also been keeping busy with his La Coka Nostra crew, Special Teamz, and of course his solo projects. His new single, Rich Man, Poor Man debuted at #20 on the college charts. | | | | Subscribe RSS |

| ?uestlove Is Such A Tease | 5/9/06 |
| | By: Trees The Roots are playing two sold out shows at Radio City Music Hall next week. I got my tickets, but chances are if you don't have them by now, urshidouddaluck. Both shows are sold out and ?uesto promises fans close to a 3 hour performance each night. He revealed in his myspace blog that there are over 20 guest slots filled for the show and appearances will be dispersed over two days. So far only 5 guests have been announced and it more or less seems like that is all that is going to be revealed. Rumors are circulating internet message boards on just who is planning on showing up. Lauryn Hill, Nas, The Jiggaman, Beanie Sigel, Mos Def and Kan-yeezy are just some of the names being tossed around to fill up those 20 slots. Regardless, I could watch a 10 hour Roots show without a single guest star. The show will make history- period.

| Bomshot & Jus Allah Beef Update | 5/2/06 |
| | By: Trees That Devilz Rejects project with Jus Allah and Bomshot is literally flying off the shelves here @ UGHH. The product is actually a great listen even though I was admittedly suspicious of it at first due to the controversy surrounding it. By now, everyone is familiar with the Bomshot/Jus Allah beef, but many people are not familiar with the story behind the creation of the Devilz Rejects project. In a recent interview Jus Allah held with ArtOfRhyme.com, Jus stated, "I think Bomshot is the wackest rapper I've ever heard in my life! He was more of a fan that turned into ‘Yo let me rhyme on your tracks'. I've never recorded one song with Bomshot. Honestly, you never hear me say his name on any of my songs. All the songs [on Devilz Rejects] he super-imposed himself on." I asked Bomshot to comment on that quote from the AOR interview and this was his response, "Me and Jus Allah formed a group together after we left Omnipotent records [Devilz Rejects]. I helped Jus get his music back from the label- forcefully. He then told me he wanted me to be on all his songs and we would look for another label to put them out with. We recorded the first two GZA songs at DJ Drama's studio. We recorded the Chief Kamachi joint at my studio as well as the others. I completed this album after our beef started because I didn't want to lose the money, time, and effort I invested into this project". I guess the two will have to agree to disagree for now. Time will tell how this situation pans out. | | | | Subscribe RSS |

| | By: Trees I can't keep track of Kool Keith anymore. Dr. Octagon was a classic, yes. But everything since then has simply confused me. The man has so many seemingly endless aliases, side projects, un-official releases that I seriously can't even begin to decipher what is what with this guy anymore. Either way, Kool Keith is dropping an official sequel to Dr. Octagon June 27th. No, I'm not talking Nogatco Rd. or Dr. Octagon II or Project Polaroid I'm talking The Return Of Dr. Octagon. To hype up this release a crew of producers, DJs, and MCs have embarked on a interpretation/remix project of sorts and will put their remixes up on the internet for fans to download. Some of the remixers include Aesop Rock, Prefuse 73, Spank Rock, and Rob Sonic. For more info peep Dr. Octagon's Myspace Page @ here. | | | | Subscribe RSS |

| Hip Hop Appreciation Week | 5/2/06 |
| | By: Trees The 9th Annual Hip Hop Appreciation Week kicks off May 15th – 22nd. Since 1998 the third week in May has become a time to reflect upon our roles as citizens of the international Hip Hop community and to recommit ourselves to the meaning of hip hop and hip hop's relationship with the principles of peace, love, unity and safely having fun! Hip Hop Appreciation Week has featured a central theme in years past. Previous themes have included Faith (2005), Freedom (2004), Forgiveness (2003), Charity (2002) and Peace (2001). This year's theme is ACTION! The Temple of Hip Hop issued the following statement as a suggestion to heads worldwide, "Be active! Walk more. Exercise more. Speak out more! Think more! But also remember that inaction is indeed an action as well. Silence is also an activity. Rest and stillness are also activities. Fasting from food, sex, gossip, war, drugs and the needless spending of money are also actions. The point is to be conscious of your actions this year". Personally, I think I'll celebrate Hip Hop week in my own way. My hip hop actions will more than likely consist of firing back a chronic laced backwood and listening to Criminal Minded on wax. | | | | Subscribe RSS |
