By: Trees HipHopDX is reporting that Freddie Foxxx's long awaited Crazy Like A Foxxx album is finally seeing the light of day. Fat Beats records is preparing to drop the shelved classic on July 29th of this year. The 1994 Freddie Foxxx sophomore release was mysteriously shelved by the label after promotional cassettes and vinyl were sent to radio and press. The existing copies of the album have been fetching serious $$$ on ebay and at trade shows for the last fourteen years - and it has achieved an almost cult like following amongst rare hip hop record collectors and diggers alike.
According to their article: "The initial 1993 demo version of Crazy Like A Foxxx features production exclusively from D.I.T.C.'s Showbiz, Lord Finesse and Buckwild. As an added treat for listeners, Fat Beats and Foxxx have included these unheard versions on the bonus disc of the two CD set, also available digitally. The emcee, who released his debut album in 1989, added, "The D.I.T.C. version got turned down by Flavor Unit. I actually liked it better, but I had to go and produce [the album] myself, and that was the [version] they accepted. A lot of emails and MySpace blogs were comin' in about how people liked the Crazy Like A Foxxx album. I was [thinking] I don't know how they like it if it was never put out. Somebody leaked it on a cassette, and people were just listening to the raggedy old, nasty-soundin' cassette version. I said, 'You know what? Let me just put it out.' It's really about the fans all day."
Of course - UGHH will carry this release so check back soon for pre-order info.

By: Mark DiSalvo Kanye West may be taking a que from his "big brother," Jay-Z. Mediatakeout.com reported today that "a very influential music executive" is saying Kanye West may be contemplating retiring from hip-hop, looking to enter the fashion world.
Before you take anything from that, remember this news comes from a gossip website that used an unnamed source. However, the timing raises eyebrows. Last week, Kanye West incurred the wrath of critics and some fans for his apparently shortened and tardy performance at the Tennessee music festival Bonnaroo.
West responded to these critics via his blog in a passionate written response. He argued that Pearl Jam's set ran an hour over its scheduled ending time, and that mismanagement by the festival's stage crew and organizers almost made his stage impossible to accommodate. His show must also be performed in the dark (it is called Glow in the Dark, afterall), and his start time of 4:25 AM left little darkness to perform a full set. Fans also reportedly littered the stage with garbage and damaged a large screen that's part of Kanye's performance.
West also said, "Call me any name you want.... arrogant, conceited, narcissistic, racist, metro, fag whatever you can think of.... BUT NEVER SAY I DIDN'T GIVE MY ALL! NEVER SAY I DIDN'T GIVE MY ALL!"
All signs point to the festival dropping the ball on this, increasingly making Kanye look like the one who was right in all of this. Nonetheless, we'll see if "retirement" is a rumor or something said in frustration.
By: Mark DiSalvo New Common for ya! Common and Pharrell have a track floating around, titled "Announcement." There's no word on whether this is a part of the new project he's working on, or just a leaked collabo. Either way, it's streaming here.
By: Mark DiSalvo The Non-Phixion vet and UGHH favorite is about to drop a new album. The Hour of Reprisal, set to hit stores August 26 has an underground all-star roster of features, from more than just the hip-hop world. The album will feature Immortal Technique, Raekwon, B-Real, Tech N9ne, and former metal group Sepultura frontman, Max Cavalera. The CD will also include a free DVD of an Ill Bill performance at New York's CBGB. Even better for the fans, you don't have to wait to hear some of it; below are two leaked tracks (credit: Soul Assassins Blog).
By: Mark DiSalvo Wale is continuing his ever-growing buzz and movement, without even dropping an official album (that will come this fall). Below is the video for "The Artistic Integrity," a single from his new mixtape The Mixtape About Nothing.
By: Mark DiSalvo The silence of Ras Kass these past few years has confused many, and left the hip-hop world begging for more. After a barely promoted release earlier this year, Ras Kass is prepping a major release for August 5th, titled Institutionalized Vol. 2. While many details are a mystery at this point, we have a release date, and a label, Babygrande Records. We'll bring you more as we learn more!
By: Mark DiSalvo It's not quite a milli, but Lil' Weezy managed to squeeze out 309,000 in sales of Tha Carter III in it's second week. That brings the total sales to somewhere around 1.4 million. In all seriousness, the reason I have tracked Lil' Wayne so diligently and endured hate mail for it, is because his album is a barometer for where the music business is right now. The sales of this album have huge implications on how music will be marketed and available to the world.
By: Trees Jealously & Envy. Two emotions I try not let get the best of me. But when I have to watch two friends party hard in the land of the most beautiful women in the world - those two emotions cannot be controlled by even the strongest of buddhist meditation techniques. By: Lolly As reported in the New York Times, M.I.A. repeatedly told the crowd at Bonnaroo on Friday that they were witnessing her “last gig ever.” Is M.I.A. really never going to hit the road again? Her announcement at Bonnaroo came just after the cancellation of all her European tour dates, which were to take place from June 21st to July 20th. She told NYMag.com that the reason for her cancellation was, “because I feel like physically I just have to stop for a second. It’s too insane.” She continued by explaining that since she makes club music, it’s as if she’s been clubbing every night for the past six months, which “takes a lot out of you, physically.” Although you won’t be able to see her on tour, you might be able to look forward to an upcoming album. “I’m going to put out a new record instead [of touring],” she told NYMag.com, “At the end of the day, I’m here.”

By: Lolly Sadat X has recently signed with Affluent Records to distribute his fifth solo album Generation X. The album, produced mostly by Will Tell and Affluent Records’ CEO Oscar Sanchez, features 10 tracks. Songs include the biographical radio single “This is Your Life,” the club hit “Never,” and a track featuring Thirston Howl III. Sanchez boasts, “Generation X is Sadat X at his best…I am very honored to be working with Sadat on this one.”
By: Mark DiSalvo Fresh off the retail release of Little Brother's And Justus For All, Phonte is already talking about another album to drop as soon as next month. This won't be a typical Little Brother LP, it'll be much more… 80's. Phonte will be teaming up with Little Brother collaborator Zo! to do an album of 80's covers with Phonte showing off his vocal abilities. "It's our way of paying homage to the stuff we grew up listening to," Phonte told HipHopDX, saying the album started as something that he and Zo! did for fun, but they ended up recording. If you're wondering what classics Phonte and Zo! cooked up, you'll have to wait, but he did reveal he'll be flipping "Take On Me" by A-Ha, "Africa" by Toto, and a remix of "Steppin' Out" by Joe Jackson. The album, Zo! and Tigallo Love the 80's, will only be released on CD, in very limited amounts (2,500 numbered units). "No iTunes, Amazon, or other any digital spots will have it," Phonte told HHDX, "once we sell out, its gone forever." There's something very 80's about that distribution.
By: Mark DiSalvo One of the missions of any hip-hop news site is to broadcast and report on the impending beef wars between titans of rap. Identifying them is not always easy, but G-Unit has made it painfully easy for us since April, starting with Young Buck's removal from the New York collective.
To recap the drama: Earlier this year, Young Buck was kicked out of G-Unit for good, by 50 Cent. The reasons for Buck's departure were cited as "inconsistent behavior" by 50. By this, 50 Cent reportedly meant what he perceived as a two-faced quality of Young Buck: he appeared with Lil Wayne on-stage, and turned around and dissed Weezy. 50 was also unhappy with Buck missing recording sessions for G-Unit.
The whole feud didn't end there, as both sides have aired out their sides of the story the past few months. The beef was reignited this week however, when 50 Cent leaked a taped phone conversation between him and Young Buck. In the conversation, Buck is in tears, asking 50 to be reinstated into G-Unit, citing money problems, among other things.
Young Buck was quick to respond yesterday, claiming the conversation took place over a year ago, long before Young Buck's final departure from G-Unit. Buck also dropped a diss track aimed at 50 yesterday, titled "Taped Conversation."
Blue Williams, Young Buck's manager, also came out today to tell AllHipHop that Buck will be squashing the beef, and that he convinced Buck to take the high road (conveniently after the diss track dropped). "I am sure if need be there are plenty explosive G-Unit secrets that he could put out there from the inner workings of the crew, but he's going to take the high road," Williams told AllHipHop.
It'd be hard to believe 50 will just let this sit. If a taped phone conversation can put Young Buck on the defensive so much, it's hard to imagine what 50 will do next. This isn't over, that's for sure.
By: Mark DiSalvo If you've ever seen The Roots live, you know they don't just perform their catalog like clockwork. A lot of times, they don't even do their own songs. Proof is below, with the Roots and Bun B performing "International Player's Anthem" together live.
By: Mark DiSalvo The Golden Era of Weezy of the Week has been upon us for weeks now, and is reaching its climax. The biggest release of 2008 officially arrived last week, with Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III selling over 1 million copies in its first week. Those numbers are Nielson Soundscan certified too. It's been three years since an album went platinum in its first week; the last one to do it was 50 Cent's The Massacre in 2005. Unfortunately for Weezy, this will likely be the only milli he sees in sales, as recent history suggests sales will dramatically fall off by the end of the month.
There is a bright side to the drop-off however, as Weezy confirmed to MTV this week that rumors of him and T-Pain forming a "super group" are true. We're eagerly awaiting the billing of the duo as the biggest group with dreads since Milli Vanilli, and as monumental as Pete Rock and CL Smooth (editor's note: get ready for the hate mail Mark). Hopefully they can pick up where Kels and Jay-Z left off (and maybe finish a tour too!).
Finally, Weezy does indeed have a tour to support "Tha Carter III," slated to begin on June 27. Dates are still TBA.
By: Mark DiSalvo I know I'm not the only one who raised an eyebrow at The Game, 50 Cent, Fat Joe, and Nelly being KRS-One's top guest MCs in his new Stop the Violence Campaign. Well, today, The Teacha explained to AllHipHop that he received very little support from self proclaimed "conscious rappers." He wasn't willing to give any names, but said to AllHipHop "You know what the conscious community said? Oh KRS again, stop the violence, he needs to just retire, why is he still rhyming?" Wow!
In more interactive KRS-One news, The Teacha is featured on a new joint titled "Today's Lesson" by a pair of Chicago MCs, Prime and Que BILLAH. Grab the track right here.
By: Dobs 2008 is sure to be a great year for Jedi Mind Tricks & Babygrande Records. This summer look out for them because they have a whole lineup of JMT related gems dropping including their first DVD and some new heat from the studio. Their first ever DVD is titled Divine Fire: The Story of Jedi Mind Tricks and said to be the explosion of underground roots and the exclusive insight into Jedi that you've been waiting for.
As well as their first DVD release this summer, Jedi gets together with Army of Pharaohs fam on three records including Doap Nixon’s Sour Diesel to come out July 22nd. This is Doap's debut even though he's been on the independent scene for a minute now. You might know Doap from his performance on Army of the Pharaohs' underground smash Ritual of Battle and from appearances with the AOTP clique.
Followed by Doap is King Syze's album The Labor Union set to release August 5th and Outerspace's God's Fury out September 30. If that isn’t not enough for you, save the date for Jedi Mind Tricks' sixth album A History of Violence to be released October 14, 2008. And for all you anxious cats peep the first track "The Wait Is Over" from Doap Nixon's album feat. Reef The Lost Cauze & Vinnie Paz here.
By: Dobs Uh-oh. Ice-T is mad. He's mad that hip-hop is dead and according to him Soulja Boy is the killer. Yeah you heard right, Ice-T the current Law & Order actor, gangsta rap veteran, and composer of 1992's controversial track "Cop Killer" drops some not too nice words for Soulja Boy Tell 'Em on the new DJ Cisco mix CD. Specifically stating "Fuck Soulja Boy! Eat a dick! This nigga single handedly killed Hip Hop." OUCH! But Soulja Boy isn't the only victim of Ice-T's wrath these days. Apparently Ice feels that Hurricane Chris should also sit down and "take them fucking beads out your hair!"
