Andre The Giant Is Back!9/29/04
By: Food Stamp
It looks like Bronx-bred emcee, Andre the Giant (A.G.), has hooked up with DJ Design, among others, for a new album slated to drop early 2005. Although his partnership with Show is well intact, this new album will feature the production of J Dilla, Madlib, Oh No, Design, and Jake One as well as guest shots from D.I.T.C. members Show, Lord Finesse, and Party Arty. One of the nicest joints on the album features the production of Jay Dee with Andre taking classic hip-hop lines and morphing them into an entirely new story. A.G. has been in the Bay Area for a minute now putting this album together, and you'll be able to catch a glimpse on the new, October-released, Grip Grand single "Poppin Rockets (remix)," which is also out on Look Records. While we're talking about some Stones Throw people, Peanut Butter Wolf is releasing a mix CD with the ST DVD, which drops this November. The CD will feature new and unreleased joints from Quas and Medaphoar as well as Jaylib and Madvillain remixes.

Some Fresh 2na9/29/04
By: Food Stamp
Although we're going to have to wait until January for Interscope to release Chali 2na's solo debut, Fish Outta Water, our appetite for seafood should be satiated with his mix CD, Fish Market. Known as the most distinctive voice of Jurassic 5, Chali intends to use his baritone vocals to start a little fire for his new album with this 17-track mix of exclusive joints- flames will be sparked on October 26th. Fish Market features spots by many west coast staples, a list that includes Rasco, J5, Swollen Members, and Rakaa from Dilated Peoples, while the mixing comes by the hands of Slum Villa's DJ Dez. Also, 2na and his buddies should be dropping the new J5 joint in March 2005, but until then you can catch the group this fall touring with The Boss on the "Vote For Change Tour."

Special Ed, The Oldest In Charge9/29/04
By: Food Stamp
In 1989 heads got a dose of what a focused youngster can do when the then 16-year-old Special Ed dropped Youngest In Charge. Now over age 30, Ed plans to drop a new album, an album proving that 15 years after your debut there is a chance you Still Got It Made. Although his debut and follow-up, Legal, made a wave, his third installation, Revelations, got slept on. Now, armed with original producer "Hitman" Howie Tee (who is now co-executive producer), Ed is aiming to show his aged refinement. The album will be released on Ed's own label Semi Records and should be in your walkman on October 26th. While Mark Sparks and Special Ed handle all the production on Still Got It Made, the album features a potpourri of crowd-movers, a list that includes Snoop Dogg, Daz Dillinger, Soopafly, Young Rascoe and several others. Although this album could be a fresh dose, Ed's complete disappearance over the years could make this project suspect to weakness.

Geto Boys Brace For War9/29/04
By: Food Stamp
It was in 1989 when we first heard the Geto Boys in their classic line-up (Bushwic Bill, Willie D, and Scarface) on Grip It On That Other Level. 15 years later the group is returning with their 9th studio album, War & Peace. Slated to drop on December 7th on Rap-A-Lot Records, this album has a lot to do with the pressure that fans placed on the trio. Willie D said that after the 6-year hiatus, "Fans were really wanting a new album from us so I took the initiative to get at everybody one by one." So, what should we be expecting for a sound? Willie D claims, "The only thing that is really different about the album is that the beats are more up-tempo…We're still Geto Boys for life!"

Kurt Gets His Trailer-Hitch Ready9/29/04
By: Food Stamp
Following the so-so collab with Kool Keith on Diesel Truckers, it looks like Waxploitation Records will be releasing the new KutMasta Kurt album, Redneck Olympics. The album will feature a boatload of unreleased joints, b-sides, and tracks that somehow got lost in the shuffle. Although the beats come from the always bouncy Kurt, vocal lendings come from Planet Asia, Mr. Lif, Mos Def, Dilated, Del, PMD, Beastie Boys and of course Kool Keith. The album is slated to hit stores before January, but Kurt had a little bit to say about this project in a press release. "This is a collection showcasing some of my best and favorite works…. It took me many years of hard work in the barn to put this here sonic hoedown together, so enjoy and doesy-doe your partner."

Redman Goes To The Darkside9/29/04
By: Food Stamp
As most of us know, Fox has pulled the plug on "Method & Red," leaving the dynamic duo a little bitter. Redman, although the music tip has been slow for him, has scored himself another role acting. Coming to theaters on November 10th will be the fifth installment in the comedic horror, Seed Of Chucky, and will co-star Redman along with Jennifer Tilly. Redman will play, get this, a rapper gone director as the film actually centers around the making of a movie about Chucky and his wife Tiff.

Planet Asia And Evidence Team Up9/13/04
By: Food Stamp
After taking for what seems like forever to release a full-length, Cali Agent #2 dropped two long-playing joints on us last spring, The Grand Opening and CA's Head Of State. Asia has been busy lately as he's teamed up with Dilated's Evidence for his new LP The Medicine. When Ev and Asia have teamed up in the past it has been pretty lovely, so you can expect much of the same on this Battle Axe joint, entirely produced by Evidence (although there may be some Alchemist in the mix too). Of the album Ev said, "Asia ‘bout to show a lot of people how to rap." Besides this project, Evidence has 6 beats on the new Swollen Members LP.

Boot Camp On The DVD Tip9/13/04
By: Food Stamp
The BCC has a lot of music on the way, but what do you do when you got a few months before you drop bombs? Well, you drop DVD's. Last week the consortium dropped Puss N Boots, which is a self-described "Girls Gone Wild hip-hop style." The DVD is a journey through the Clik's run-ins with strippers and groupies as well as a look into their studio efforts. Making Of The Video DVD will be dropping on October 5th, which is a documentary on how the BCC uses limited funds to produce music videos. Get an inside look at all the pain that goes into the final product, as well as these full-length videos: Sean Price "Boom Bye Yeah," Black Moon "Stay Real" and "This Goes Out To You," and much more.
Smif n' Wessun's 3rd album will be dropping this January as well as Sean Price's new joint, Monkey Barz. Following that will be Buckshot and 9th Wonder's collab, Chemistry, slated for a March 2005 drop. Tek should be dropping a mixtape Elameen Da Don (November 2005) while Steele is working on a Bucktown USA joint.

JMT And Friends Going On Tour9/13/04
By: Food Stamp
A little more than a week after Jedi Mind's newest Lp, Legacy Of Blood, drops, JMT, 7L & Esoteric, and Outerspace will start a tour- under the same name- in Chicago on September 26th. The tour will be spanning all of the United States and even make its way into Canada (www.jedi-mind-tricks.com for more dates). Esoteric said that he and Paz will be working on the new, and highly anticipated, Army Of The Pharaohs Lp. "Me and Vin are choosing the tracks as we speak so we can get cracking on the conception of the album while we're on the road," said Esoteric. In other related news, 7L and Beyonder are working on Vinyl Thug Music Volume 2, while Main Flow and 7L have hooked up for a collaborative effort.

Setbacks At Psycho+Logical-Records9/13/04
By: Food Stamp
Not that there are any problems with the Necro/ Non Phixion camp, but some tightening up has to be done before Necro releases his new album The Pre-Fix For Death, which has been pushed back to a September 28th release date. One-third of Non Phixion, Goretex, will also be dropping some heat on Psycho+Logical-Records, but at a later date than previously announced. The Art Of Dying, which features Necro beats and the throat-slitting narrative raps of Gore, will now be dropping on October 26th. For more info on either of these joints please check out www.necrohiphop.com.

Dirt McGirt Gettin' Sticky9/2/04
By: Food Stamp
Imagine smelling the 40 oz. inspired morning farts, pissing in random public spots, or tasting the fine kitchen remnants of the Ol' Dirty Bastard himself. This will all become the reality for some lucky individuals who partake in Spike TV's newest reality challenge, Stuck To ODB. The primary challenge tests the contestant's ability to stay within 10-feet of Dirt McGirt for five complete days. Now, you're probably asking yourself what the prize is for achieving such a hairy task?!? $25 G's isn't so bad of a take-home considering you have to fester along with the dirtiest of bastards. The program premiers on September 14th at 10 PM (ET) and will show every Tuesday night at 10 PM (ET) or 11 PM for you Leftcoasters. Gotta feel some sympathy for whoever is the first victim of ODB's underarm cheese.

Ultra Magnetic Reprises9/2/04
By: Food Stamp
Experimenting with uncouth flows and cosmic beats was definitely pioneered by Ultramagnetic MC's, a group who brought such beauties to table as Critical Beatdown and The Four Horsemen. After a slight departure, the group's most peppery beatsmith, Ced Gee (who was also the primary mind behind Criminal Minded's beats), and partner Grafiq, have launched their new label Factshen Entertainment. Although the imprint has already picked up some new talent, they plan to re-release the group's second LP Funk Ya Head Up, as well as a reunion Ultramag album. After a seven-year hiatus, the original group (Kool Keith, Ced Gee, Tim Dog, TR-Love, and Moe-Love), along with new members Frank Beans and Philly's Grafiq, are hungry and plan to smack fans with that jeep-jockin' funk that we're accustomed to hearing.

What's The Frequency, Q-Tip9/2/04
By: Food Stamp
Q-Tip has had his hands in a lot of pots lately, such as Spike Lee's She Hate Me and a N.E.R.D. remix, but solo and ATCQ work has been slow. In the same vein as his Kamaal the Abstract dabbling, Tip is doing a joint with R.E.M., proving his ever-expanding experimentation. The track, "I'm Gonna DJ," which will be released on the group's October-dropping album, focuses on the WTO riots in Seattle back in 1999. Interesting as this could be Q leave us wondering (still!) when this whole Tribe reunion will come to fruition.
