| The Return Of The Count | 9/27/06 |
| | By: Trees Dwight Farrell, aka Count Bass D, will release his fourth full-length album on FatBeats Records. Entitled Act Your Waist Size, the album is filled with 20 genre-defying tracks that serve as further proof that the Count has never been one to linger within the confines of convention in the cut-and-dry music industry. On "Act Your Waist Size", Count Bass D once again demonstrates his unique ability to showcase various styles in a hip-hop context. In addition to his trademark boom-bap and instrumental tracks, he reinterprets two 19th century standards, sings a self-penned ballad, and offers his own version of the southern sound. Lead single "Junkies (Hanging Out At The Store)" (To Download Click Here) rides on a laid back southern bass line while new-wave keyboards percolate over the top. Second single "Internationally Known" (To Download Click Here) comes in at just under 2 minutes and features Count flowing over a jazzy glissando loop backed by toy-like drums. Given the success of artists like Outkast and Gnarls Barkley, it's clear that creativity from a rap artist can be embraced by a larger audience, but you won't find Count Bass D worrying about such trends. No, he's busy just being one of many musicians trying to make it in Music City USA, and he's doing it his way. Act Your Waist Size will be released nationally on FatBeats Records on October 17th. | Get To Know Exposition | 9/27/06 |
| | By: Trees Some of you may have noticed UGHH.com is doing an in-store today with local MC Exposition. Many of you have emailed me asking just exactly who the hell Exposition is. Well, in Boston everyone knows dude. In addition to fronting Boston's award winning "Best Live Band" Audible Mainframe, Exposition took home the award for "Best Underground Artist" at the 2006 Boston Hip-Hop Awards. His new LP, Take A Penny, Leave A Penny is an introspective mixture of reflections, socio-cultural commentary, and freethinking manifestos of life in new world New England. The new album comes just two years after his initial offering, The Metro but after the first listen seems like it was recorded light years after. We'll be posting up the videos of the in-store later this month, and will also feature an interview with the MC on tonight's Wednesday Night Live Radio Show. Check for Expo. | | | | Subscribe RSS |

| Louis Logic To Perform Last Hip Hop Show for CBGB's | 9/19/06 |
| | By: Trees Words from Louis Logic: I am honored to announce to you all that JJ. Brown and I have recently been given the opportunity to play the last rap show at New York's legendary CBGB's before it closes down forever. Those of you familiar with the incredible history of CB's know that some of the great pioneers of the do it yourself ethic made their mystique on that stage; The Ramones, Blondie and Talking Heads to name a few. Though it has always been a crucial stop for punk bands on the rise, recently, the landmark venue has acknowledged the growing parallels between punk and rap, and opened it's doors to beats and rhymes. None of us want to say goodbye, but if we must, it's only right that we close the book with a proper farewell to rap music. That said, I reached out to the CB's staff and arranged a bill featuring some of New York's most beloved and respected independent hip hop artists, including J-Zone, The Juggaknots and Louis logic & J.J. Brown. On Wednesday, September 27th 2006, you can be a part of history and help me say goodbye to one of the coolest live music venues ever. The doors open at 7pm and the show wraps around midnight. J.J. and I are scheduled to play at 10:30pm. Check out the attached flyer and line up schedule below for a detailed breakdown of the evening's festivities and mark it on your calendar. Thanks so much for your continued support and I do hope you take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity. | | | | Subscribe RSS |

| | By: Damino Welcome to the carnival! Whirlwind events over the last several days have set two West Coast icons at odds and lit the Hip-Hop news machine ablaze. Here's what we know: Game and Ras Kass were involved in a physical altercation last week at a Los Angeles nightclub. All other details should be processed depending upon whether you are a fan of Black Wall Street or Re-Up. According to the Game camp, Ras was knocked out one punch into a one-on-one altercation stemming from lyrics directed at Game and his son on a recent Ras Kass mixtape. The Re-Up version of the story has Game and 30 of his closest friends attempting to jump Ras, smacking him about the noggin with a bottle with a blow that did not drop Ras. We won't pretend that you probably don't already know about all of this…and we won't go into further detail. There are YouTube videos, message board posts, and all kinds of other info available on the internet regarding the event. All we can ascertain from any of it is this: both parties admit that there was a physical altercation. After that…it's anybody's guess. Ras Kass's camp indicated that he had no desire to pursue this beef…then a dis track popped up on his MySpace page. So, for those of you eagerly waiting for the battle tracks to arise from this altercation, have a field day. For those of you (like myself) who smell blood in the air, cross your fingers and hope the beef-hungry consumer base doesn't help kill another of our heros. (Editor's Note: Both rappers have albums coming out in the next two months..)

| Surprise! Jay-Z Un-Retires.. | 9/19/06 |
| | By: Damino In news that isn't really news to anybody, Jay-Z has finally announced that he is officially ending what he refers to as "…the worst retirement in history." Since The Black Album, originally intended as his last studio album, Jay has worked harder than most working musicians. Check the resume: since throwing in the towel, Jigga has taken over as President and CEO of Def Jam, bought a portion of the NJ Nets, contributed vocals to many other artists' albums, and toured the world. According to the Associated Press, Jay officially called an end to his retirement in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, confirming the suspicions of virtually everyone to ever purchase a Jay-Z album. His return to record store shelves, Kingdom Come, is due this fall, and he indicates that this effort will be more The Black Album than The Blueprint, featuring tracks from Timbaland, Dr. Dre, road dog Kanye West, and even Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. "I've been experimenting with things," Mr. Carter explains. There you have it…Jay-Z is officially un-retired. And despite Jiggaman's belief, it's nothing worse than the second retirement in Hip-Hop. Master P "retired" too.
