    Summary

Early-'90s hardcore rap crew Onyx are coming back together this year to release brand new album #Wakedafucup. Produced entirely by German crew Snowgoons, the forthcoming set seems to feature a throwback East Coast sound to match the record's reminiscent name - Onyx's 1993 debut LP was dubbed Bacdafucup, for those who missed the boom-bap history lesson. Snowgoons produced the last M.O.P. album titled Sparta as well produced the Goondox project consists of EPMD's PMD & Sean Strange. The feature list goes from Sean Price, Reks, Cormega, Dope D.O.D., Snak The Ripper, Papoose, Makem Pay to A$ap Ferg.

Comment: There is always a hater around " he voice of reason" what you mad about bro, I don't give a sh*t about Malik socking Fredro or Malcolm exposing Sticky. You're no gangster so chill with the internet tough guy sh*t. Onyx is still around and still making solid albums, deal with it.

Comment: But really though, this sucks. Onyx has been exposed. Sticky got beat up by a white boy and Charlemange made a bitch of Fredro on The Breakfast Club. These guys are 40+ year old wannabees who aren't fooling me. Such a corny group now, I can't believe people are giving 5 star reviews calling this "real" lmfao, this is the fakest sh*t ever! ASAP Ferg has the best verse on here. I wish Onyx would disappear again, but this time forever.

Comment: Nice to go back in time when hip hop was done by real heads. A time when if you didn't come correct you had beer bottles thrown at your head.. THIS SH*T COMES CORRECT! Snowgoons killed the beats, Onyx brought the heat. Props to our boy SNAK THE RIPPER as well. Full scale BANGER here.

Comment: I don't really understand you muthaf*ckas. This dude said best album of the last five years, HAHAHAHA, how old are you, 13?? Idiot. All you dudes constantly do is throw out 5 stars like it's nothing. This ain't even CLOSE to 5 stars. Snowgoons just aren't that good. They progressively get worse and worse. Their best material was "German Lugers", their first album. Most of the beats on here are average at best! This is a 3, nothing more!

Comment: Bangin' album. Fredro and Sticky bring back the same formula that made them DoPE!! With the energetic rhymes that you can feel. SnowGoons did an excellent job here. With some of their best beats I've ever heard of theirs. I gave it four stars due to Dope D.O.D. They ruined a banger with their verses. Besides that everyone should support this release. Go buy it you phuckers!!!

Comment: Sorry for the mis-information. Big DS was the former Onyx member that passed away in 2003 from cancer RIP and Suave still alive but seems not to be part of Onyx in the mean time. Pretty much been out of touch with Onyx since 93 -96….. Still a fan and I know a ton of people who shaved their heads bald in 93 because of Onyx like a post apocalyptic cult LOL.

Comment: Allow me to disclose a little bit more… if I were to choose out of ONYX the persona that appeals and always has a sinister dark aproach to his delivery is STICKY. If it were my persona id deliver the way he does and contribute this feature to the collective. Everyone has their preference."STICKY FINGA PRINTES". And to add to that if it wasn’t for JAM MASTER JAY…ONYX wouldn’t be around RIP. And if you relate to what I just said then peep out the song "Whoop Ass" W/STICKY off of OHNOmite (MADLIB'S BROTHER) and off of a real dope label FIVE DAY WEEKEND maybe affiliated to Traffic Entertainment Group… so it’s a must you better know who they are in the Hip Hop game or else….WHUT LOL…and….im….OUT!!!

Comment: I take back my previous review. The 1st time I heard this, I was around like 50 milfs listening to this album on my headphones & was expecting something 2014. Later that day I went down & sat in a bench next to the Hudson River staring at NYC traffic & played this sh*t in peace. & this sh*t took me back to being 15 yrs old again via that classic 93, heavy coat, cold azz weather & disgusting music era. Sticky is as nasty as ever! & these cats destroyed every beat they rhymed over with their evil & raspy flow! Can't complain, they came out disastrous & hungry. Other than some wack features, I shall consider this a raw modern day classic!

Comment: I can't really deal with the fact that Snowgoons produced this. I mean, 2 groups that is known for the lack of new shit is onyx and m.o.p and that the goons was able to get exclusive albums with both them groups is just WHAAAAAAAT, you know.. The only track that’s a banger here, or even close to it is We don’t fucking care, only thing is awack ferg is on it, jesus christ!

Comment: LOOK THIS UP.... maybe on youtube...."Ooh Whatcha Gonna Do" song by RUN DMC. they made quite a cameo and did the hooks on the video if anyone payed attention. and RIP to Jam Master Jay and Suave. and if anyone remembers the song by RUN DMC "Down With The King" and Onyx also Made a cameo on that video. Onyx really did shine in 93. and 'Last Days" on single cassette was always on play in my walkman waaaay before 8 mile blew it up years later. the battle scene in 8 mile and the whole movie was soooo corny because of Hollywood's interpretation of what the underground Hip Hop expected to ....SHOULD look like to be acceptable to the Mainstream. and Mekhi Phifer with dreds was halarious for me....kinda threw me off. he did a better job acting in Spike Lee's Clockers then after that that was it for me LoL...Sorry went of topic, just wanted to share some memories with people who grew up on the Boom Bap Golden Era.

Comment: Pay no attention to the haters of this album! This is straight fire. No one wants to admit it, but onyx is one of the best hip hop groups of all time hands down. Have they ever gone soft? no Did they ever conform to appeal to the pop masses? no. Have they tried to rob their fans with half ass albums? no But for whatever reason, they don't get the respect they deserve. And they did it up with one production team. I'm buying this record. And I'm going to pick up some of their old albums that were also slept on.

Comment: Big ONYX fan back in the day. First 3 albums were fireee... Again, to go over what others have said, I don't understand the Snowgoons production movement. Everything I have heard from these dudes all sounds similar and while that can be a good thing at times for other producers such as Premo, Pete Rock, etc. The goons just don't really have a great sound to begin with. It's just ok. Generic at best. Onyx did their thing as best as they can on these beats. A song needs all things in place to be classic. The half that's missing on here is the production. Unfortunate, but hopefully Onyx keeps it moving and like M.O.P., finds the right production partners in the future.

Comment: If this album came out back in the mid 90s, it would be a strong ass album to f against with…but thangs have changed immensely.. Lyrics & word-play have enhanced 100x's since then & that's the hugest flaw on this cd aswell as some dumb-azz guest appearances. The good is that these motha-foes can make some catchy & raw azz hooks that are explosive,, opposed to most underground acts who got the best lyrics out there,,but NO form of ability of making a good hook making there tracks sound boring & uneven half the times. Like my name,,, I dunno,,,I dunno about this one,, YOU be the judge.

Comment: OK, I gave it a few listens and I just don't like the Goons production… The effort and Onyx passion was there but the opera beats don't wk..This doesn't touch the original ONYX sound… This is not 90's hip hop it's imitation 90's… Havoc, Premo, Beatnuts, Sebb, les, RZA, Buckwild, EZ Elpee, El P, Charlamange & Marley Marl are the 90's sound not this mess.

Comment: @ Dirty Porcelain I totally agree... Boring Opera, roman beats don't do it for me... Maybe this one will be different, But I like only a few singles and that depends on the artist...

Comment: Asap Ferg is wack. It would be complete if they didn't have his wack ass on it. It completely ruined the song. I made an edited version without his verse on we don't fking care.

Comment: every time I hear "all we got is us" I get chills down my spine, takes me back to that very moment in my life when I realized hiphop was for me, although I will say this sounds good and they seem to be hungry, but recreating something classic back fires, I like snowgoons but their beats have this unique sound, almost shouting "hey these are my beats and these guys are rappn on em" where as good producers blend in the backround and customize their sound to the artist for a real feel, rather then heads coming together for an artificial recreation

Comment: Hell yeah Nick. I remember it being my freshmen yr in highschool in February of 93 & these guys tore up this lil dingy theater a few blocks from my house rocking Carhartts dropped jeans & bald heads. "Throw ur Gunz" was THE local anthem in my school.
