Summary

The P return with their highly anticipated 9th studio album, 12 Step Program, a self produced, psychedelic, sample laden journey solidifying PUTS as a group completely comfortable in their own unique lane. Though the sound may be reminiscent of early 90s hip hop albums, the duo eschews the golden era pitfall of rapping about rap with decidedly now topics covering everything from LA gang violence and Instagram to Rob Ford while complementing each other with back and forth wordplay. As classic as any release in the P cannon, the 12SP is a high enjoyable ride over beats that feel both classic and fresh at the same time.

Comment: "Like a greatest hits album of all new material." Some 15-16 years in and they're still managing to produce some of the most aesthetically *and* technically beautiful hip hop out there. I'm well into double-digits on the listen count (got the CD, Vinyl, and Cassette, hehe) and can safely say this is my favorite PUTS record. After building the Piecelock 70 studio and mastering their sound there on Highlighter, it seems that they finally feel comfortable with the control they have over the technical process. With that on lock, they were able to focus their creative energies on the aesthetic aspect, and it's paid off. Thes mentioned that "this one's for the fans!" But it's way more than that: this is one for the ages. This is one of those rare timeless gems of uplifting hip-hop, equal parts classical and romantic, deep and light-hearted, layered with clever wordplay, running PUTS jokes and themes, and intricately laced with masterfully arranged samples. My first listen through headphones had me alternating between flinging them off my head from dancing too hard and flinging them off from nodding too hard. By the end my neck was sore and my tear ducts dry. Need I say more?

Comment: This is a solid album. Much better than their last few in my opinion. Don't judge 1 up til the sun up by the video(which is filmed great and edited great just weird kinda). I was worried I'd be disappointed but this is a SOLID release.

Comment: Dope album but could have done without the song about being in love with some random girl on the internet that you never met? And they did a dance for it? Lol, breakup music was a little wack to. Other than that it's good.

Comment: Been a big fan since day one. Nice beats and rhymes, this is much more like their original style funk with boom bap. Their last albums lacked boom bap material.

Comment: Agree with quest. Yes I can is just too dope and is defInately my favorite track. The colored vinyls are beautiful. It's amazign what Thes One does, there's a dope booklet and the blue tape sounds so good! It bumps in my cassete player in my car.

Comment: This is the most refreshing album out of the new releases to hit UGHH in quite some time. Straight up boom bap, classic P.U.T.S. sound. There are many bangers on here, so much so that I'm actually getting neck cramps from nodding my head so much to these joints. Check out the audio samples and you'll be nodding within seconds. Must purchase if you love hip hop.

Comment: Will definately purchase this right here. P.U.T.S are one of the most consistent crews in hip hop history as they are yet to release a shitty album. That's right, not one sh*tty album to date IMO as I own them all! Just can't wait for this one!

Comment: Even after hearing 1 Up Til Sun Up and not being impressed, I'm still excited for this joint mainly because this will be their first album since The Next Step to use 100% samples, breaks and loops!

Comment: If I don't end up liking this as much as other PUTS albums, then I'll probably end up liking it more in a year.
