Comment: Man, Pete Rock needs to pull out the SP1200 whether it's old or not. Hands down, PR's prod in the 90's was way better NO OPINION! His prod on Industry Shakedown ...nuff said.

Comment: I completly forgot about this upcoming release, when the date of release was finally approaching I got a little excited. When I heard the final product I unfortunatly didnt feel the same way. Pete rock has always been one of my favorite producers but this album dosent give me that warm fuzzy feeling like he usually does. This album does have some nice tracks on it but some other songs feel like he fell asleep at the boards. Smif n wessun have never been my favorites, dah shining is the only LP I felt was worth owning, but I must admit there have been many other bangers on their past albums, just not consistent all the way through for my taste and the same issue plagues this release. I could see how many of you might like this, it has potential, but I have a strict view that for me to consider a good album is an album that I like, feel and enjoy straight through for years to come. It dosent reach that level for me but for all the rest who dig it, keep poppin it!

Comment: One of those rare albums where the sound snippets don't do it justice, need to purchase, and play this one in your deck, to hear all the scratches, the continuity, and see that this is quite definitely by all that defines an album as a 5, a 5, at first was concerned to many guest, but they weave cohesively and make for an incredible listen track after track

Comment: Few real good cuts on here. Even though the good cuts could be alot better. Hate to admit my fav producer seems to have gotten lazy on this LP. Too many straight up loops, not really what fans expect from The Creator. Lyrical nice effort from Tek n Steele. Although some of the features just didn't work. And oh yeah, that shit with hurricane g is an embarrassment. Between a 2.5 and 3.

Comment: If i've learned anything from past experiences, it's that most hip-hop albums require a few solid listens before offering up a proper constructive criticism. But here, Pete Rock's production just seems to lack the depth and intensity it had, once up a (SP-1200) time. With mostly, monotonous loops, and droopy drum patterns, the Chocolate Boy Wonder claims to have more versatility on the MPC2500with its 45+ minutes of sample time. Quite honestly, his sound seems stripped of all layers, with a simple kick-hat-snare and some bass notes and 16-pads worth of chops ala DONUTS. It leaves a lot to be desired... and by all means, I'm for simplicity in hip-hop... nice backdrop for emcees to get busy lyrically on. Still... so much more could've been achieved... moreso, everytime Pete's worked with a Wu-Tang member he feels it necessary to make the RZA-esque soundscape. Don't get that really, considering his best work on Soul Survivor was some of Wu-member's best work to date. There were a few stand out tracks, but the most annoying and disappointing had to be the cop-out BABE RUTH - THE MEXICAN joint... where he just chop/looped up more than 30 seconds of the original song: PUFF DADDY loops, loops, loops. Nothing exciting there...

Comment: Yo yo yo....for real man, I was expecting a lot better from Pete Rock. I agree with a few of you dudes below sayin that PR's production really hasn't been anything amazing in the last 5-8 years maybe..Maybe even longer. You listen to the beats on Soul Survivor and then you listen to this, and you're like HUH?? Beats on Soul Survivor were fuckin AMAZING. The beats on NY's Finest were much better than this. But there are a couple bangers on here, "That's Hard" is definitely one,"Top of the world" and "Feel Me." But most of the other tracks are average. BTW, I wouldn't have expected Pete to re-use certain overused samples that have been used by countless producers. Pete, you can do better!

Comment: Maybe this record will grow on me. IMO, but Pete's production is boring on this, which does make the album kind of boring itself. I think if the production was better, we'd have a better vibe from Tek/Steele. I have not really been feeling Pete's production the last few years. It's okay, but just sort of bland. No disrespect to PR/SnW, but this is just not as bimpin as I thought. I will try to listen a bunch more times. The collabos are good, and a couple tracks are nice, but overall Im a bit let down. What happened at the release party though, damn, fuck them NY Piggies!!!!

Comment: Was debating whether this got 4 or 5 stars, went with 4... lemme break it down real quick... This album is a grower. I know many peeps be expecting some Dah Shinin vibe... basically it's still that gritty NY ish, just not as dark (obviously the era and production play a main part) Get that out ya head and the albums will be that much better for it. Production wise, Pete Rock came thru on this one... his beats are supreme, a few styles over the album but always fresh, always real hip hop, always NY!!!! SnW are on point as well... they always work well together and Tek has kinda slowed down his style some what but Steele will always be a lyrical great and he doesn't let up on this one either. Guests... all except Black Rob & Memephis Bleek come thru hard. I wish they got Eternia or Invincible instead of Hurricane G on the "Do It" track, that woulda made the track an instant classic. All in all a great achievement from producer and MC's... dare I say it, it's Smif-N-Wessuns best album since Dah Shinin and Pete Rock continues to elevate his legendary status bystaying true to the hip hop art form and keepin it fresh for 2011!!!

Comment: Ive been looking at all the comments and everyone has a valid point. I'm a big P.R. fan also.. The Soul Brotha is my favorite but I too was a bit disappointed. And I think the main resaon is because Smif and Wessun & Pete just didnt mesh together as well as we all expected. As true fan.. I still bought the album. And who knows ..it maybe that we have to listen to it for awhile to really grasp it. some tracks didnt hit me right away, but the tracks that did were Night Time, Feel Me, Roses, and Fire. Eventhough I expected more...... im still glad I got it.....And lime my man ''The Jeneral J.U.-ICE'' stated... I too hope that they put out an instrumental Album......Peace

Comment: I can see why some people were disappointed with the album as far as Pete bringin' heat on those beats. It did sound like a different PR, but overall I still thought the album was pretty dope. It's one of those albums you gotta listen to over and over for it to grow on you. Overall I give the album 4 stars. I wasn't really disappointed with the album.

Comment: Dope shit indeed...it only makes sense that an album with PR and Smiff-N-Wessun should definitely hit the streets. Plus the line up of guest spots on this is dope! This album makes me think of those old Tony Touch, Doo-Wop, and Lazy K mixtapes that had shit back in 95' on up with INI, Pete Rock, CL Smooth, Black Moon, Heltah Skeltah, Smiff-n-Wessun and the whole BCC. The mid 90's were also great years in hip-hop music too! This shit here is gonna be fire! J.U.-ICE

Comment: p said: "I been heard the song"....don't try to come at me with grammar like that little boy. go back to school with your little p-p. you probably dropped out of PS 76. I highly doubt you gradated to IS 39. No wonder NYC can't get a school chancellor to keep a job with idiots like yourself.

Comment: I just saw an article that said duck down confirmed a june 20-something release date for this? what the f- can someone confirm this? that would be pushing two years since the announcement and well over a year of push backs from the first date.

Comment: anyone who follows duck down has already known about this for a year plus. LARS only schools the fools who don't even know what they are doing in the hip hop world. but respect to LARS it means he is a fellow hip hop head who does his research, cant hate on that! although chill homie, a lot of us have known this was in the owrks for sometime now. YO TEK AND STEELE: LETS STEP IT UP FROM THE LAST GO-ROUND YA? (FUCK "THE ALBUM")
