Summary

July 27th 2023:

Lieutenant Gaviston speaks of a recon mission in Kabul, Afghanistan where he discovers classified information that changes EVERYTHING that he believes about this W.A.R. This information is uploaded & transmitted through time. If you eventually hear this; you have been ordained or genetically pre-exposed to have received this information. What you will eventually hear is a WARNING.

These words are powerfully delivered by Idris Elba to set a tone for Pharoahe Monch's upcoming album W.A.R. (We Are Renegades). The material presented is a consistent message from start to finish with new epiphanies exposed after various sets of songs. The order of music helps the listener see the vivid stories that Pharoahe is painting through the use of his lyrics.

The production compliments Monch's delivery & takes on a genuine art form that could easily stand on its own. Live instruments resonate at the start & end of certain tracks, such as his title song W.A.R. featuring Immortal Technique & Vernon Reid. Producers Exile, Marco Polo, M-Phazes, Fatin, Diamond D, Mike Loe, Samiyam, Adam Deitch, Eric Krasno & Pharoahe Monch himself help shape the album into what will be Monch's greatest work to date.

Pharoahe Monch's vision for the album is supported with guest features that provide an eclectic mix of sounds. Fans can look forward to material with Jill Scott, Styles P, Citizen Cope, Jean Grae, Royce Da 5' 9," Immortal Technique, Vernon Reid, Phonte, Mr. Porter, Mela Machinko, Showtyme & DJ Boogie Blind.

Comment: Wow for the 1st time I agree with Lars. This album is lacking in the production. Monch really doesnt have a good ear for beats but overall the album is decent nothing to brag about. Royce Da 5'9" had the best verse on the whole album!! Monch needs to holla at Apollo Brown, STatik Selektah, Jake One, IDE, Kno

Comment: This album is great for these times but back in the days it would have only be a 3.5 out of 5. It is not bad, but not great...I think it will forgotten in years to come. Dope rhymes...Ok beats, A bit complex to the passive listener but the hard core fan will love this album. It will probably sell less than 150,000 copies.

Comment: Pharoahe, god's gift to vocabulary! I never leave a comment until I bought the album or at least heard it played through many times, but... This album is too anticipated for me and came through with Pharoahe's flavor at it's best. Beyond expectations, which were very high after desire and internal affairs. Need to buy now!

Comment: This is cool. I would prefer some grittier darker beats but it sounds pretty solid how it is. A little too clean sounding though, the beats could hit harder. The Exile beat on "Evolve" is nothing special. 3.5 stars. Lyricism is 5 stars, beats 3.

Comment: While I liked his last album Desire more for its musicality, I am not here to compare and judge based on his last record. Shit's lame........He has evolved his style with this one, as good artists should. I love the hardcore lyricism and tight flows, and the beats are original and shit, pick this one up no doub.t

Comment: What ever happened to listening to an album BEFORE dissin' it? At minimal listen, this should at least get a 4, Fam. After 2 or 3 listens, I expect bad opinions to eventually change. Dissin' this indeed demonstrates that our world have been poisened too long in this fast food generation. Cats need to understand this album's sound is supposed to be "punches to the gut." Listen to the lyrics and take in the production. The often stabby production lays that canvas. Wake the hell up people!!!

Comment: Pharoahe is the Daewon Song of HipHop. Technically untouchable! "Internal Affairs" one of my favs and all the Organized material is legendary. Some of the beats on this project are a bit too much and noisy...but Pharoahe could rap to the sound of one hand clapping and still drop knowledge. One of, if not the GOAT!!

Comment: This is a solid album. I don't know who could hate on Monch, the man has been an underground killer for longer than most of us have been breathing. @Yer Pa: Man anyone who grew up with hip hop listened to Organized Konfusion and got the real from it. It's no wonder wy Technique and others would spit on his album; it's a huge honor. The man is legit real recongize real.

Comment: To E to the D Pharoahe Monch is also in my all time list but I'm not sure about best ever. However your argument is strong but don't forget the Freestyle Fellowship MCs especially Mikah 9 and Aceyalone (material not so good now. Also as for Monch since 91? more like 87 with the classic old school debut single 'Memories of Love'

Comment: Through all of the release date pushbacks, and all of the complaining by everybody, the time for knowledge stacking is here. While insignificant to this discussion, I do believe Pharoahe to be the best emcee ever, and I feel he truly is original, technically absurd, with the difficulty of rhyme schemes, and has been that way since 1991. He is an even mix of brilliant and dominant, with at times graphically CRAZY (padded room crazy), in order to portray widely known truth in a complete fresh way. All praises due to the Mighty Pharoahe Monch.
