    Summary

P.O.S returns with Never Better, the follow up to 2006's critically acclaimed Audtion. Written mostly in a moving car, P.O.S raps at full clip to ride rolling drums and revving distortion. There's an urgency that he keeps in careful check, and then unleashes for spring-loaded verses that represent his best work. Never Better enters a room like bombshell with a black eye, badass, noisy, and impossible to ignore. Feedback and relentless drum rolls are only occasionally tempered by sung choruses and clean, chiming guitar lines.

With an unlikely punk rock past and an ever growing loyal hip hop fan base, P.O.S proves he is a rapper with range, a real musician and an unstoppable performer. Don't mistake Never Better for some hybrid or some contrived crossover project because for P.O.S genres are as they ever were: permeable.

Comment: I'm sorry to Bill from Indy who posted 3/5/09 P.O.S. does not sound like Slug at all. For people who keep saying artist sound like each other, eventually if you run in the same clique your going to have similar styles but P.O.S. does NOT sound like Slug.

Comment: Yo this is a dope album. Good shit. Even P.O.S. produces for the album. Can't knock this one. Dessa even kills it on Low Light Low Life.

Comment: I love this shit. Been rockin it for a while now, and still keep coming back to it. Only a couple of tracks that get skipped. Definitly not for the narrow minded.

Comment: P.O.S. won me over a couple years ago with a truly spirited & amazing in-store performance @ UGHH for like five people on a weekday. Just saw him kill it in Boston a few weeks ago, definitely one of the illest shows I've seen in years, he is a true showman. 'Never Better' is a brilliant album, a true fusion of hip hop and hardcore without cheezy power-chords a la the Judgement Night soundtrack or the slew of wack 'metal remixes' that have been popping up lately, he actually gets it right, maintaining the soul of both music forms while creating something new and original. Gotta love an emcee referencing Fugazi's '5 corporations'. Aside from the slammin tunes, the packaging for this is crazy ill and worth copping for that alone. A true artistic experience from the tracks to the booklet, 'Never Better' is a slamfestival.

Comment: I've never heard of Doomtree, but have heard of P.O.S. I picked this CD up strictly because of the reviews and the item summary. I wanted something different...I got something different. The beats and production are dope! The rapid snar seems a little over used. I realize P.O.S. is from Minnisota and is on Rhymesayers, but he sounds an awful lot like Slug...still very hot!

Comment: So rich with grooves, and aggressive drums and flows. Very tight! '09 is looking like the a '87, '93, '96 'early rawkus type of year ... Someone tell Nas to buy this one and see Hip Hop is not dead, and make certain the breakers in Jpn get this one

Comment: Been a huge fan since Ipecac Neat, and this doesn't disappoint. I would say this is BY FAR his most complete album to date. While it doesn't have quite the peaks of Audition, it is much more consistant and much more filling, if you will. Dope shit P.O.S.. P.S. Dessa's verse was fuckin' beastly on that one song...
