    Summary

Corey Woods aka Raekwon The Chef, aka Lex Diamonds, aka Shallah Raekwon has been a staple in the Entertainment industry since his debut in 1993 as an integral part in undeniably one of the greatest Hip-Hop groups to date, the legendary Wu-Tang Clan. Rae's verbal ability took center stage early in the original cult classic "Protect Ya Neck", but little did the world know as we bopped our heads in unison to the mesmerizing Wu-Tang catalog, that we were merely indulging in delicious appetizers delivered by Rae. It wasn't until 1995, when Raekwon The Chef emerged from the kitchen and invited the Hip-Hop faithful into his personal chamber and the world was privileged to partake in the perfectly sautéed full course meal cooked by the Chef himself culminating with the album that changed the game as we knew it...Only Built 4 Cuban Linx.

Only Built 4 Cuban Linx is a Hip-Hop classic that would serve as binoculars for not only how the general public would view Hip-Hop artists, but also and more importantly, how Hip-Hop artists would view themselves Raekwon has influenced many of the Hip-Hop aficionado's such as Wyclef, Outkast, The Game, Mobb Deep, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Eminem, The Lox and the late great Big Pun. Never before had the game seen the flashy swagger, coupled with the Mafioso undertones that so eloquently fit, along with the use of numerous aliases by an artist, the unprecedented skits, the Staten Island slang and the verbal techniques that Raekwon The Chef so effortlessly demonstrated in the Platinum classic album that would withstand the test of time. By possessing these rare qualities and Iron Chef credentials, the Brooklyn born "Shaolin" bred MC became one of the most versatile Hip-Hop artists that the industry has ever seen and considered by many as one of the Greatest MC's Of All Time. Much like the career of one of his favorite artists, Marvin Gaye,Raekwon not only appeals to the male dominated street community but he also possesses the unique ability to attract a huge female following. The hoods all across America have been craving for it, the streets have been starving, and now the country is famished for the release of Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Part II (The Purple Tape).

With years of valuable experience from working alongside some of the most influential figures in the recording industry to date, Raekwon is ready to navigate his ship with the formation of his record label, Ice Water Inc. and reemerge his urban flair to the masses with the sequel to the aforementioned blockbuster...Only Built For Cuban Linx II (The Purple Tape). This Shaolin Island legendary flamethrower, gave fans something to chow on with the 08 release of the "Vatican" Mix-tape and now he has prepared a delicious plate and his lyrical recipe has been groomed to make his presence felt nationally with the OBFCL II ‘09 release. With the smash hits " Mean Streets" and " We Ain't Going No Where" featuring Busta Rhymes, this lyrical juggernaut has been marinating and is now ready to assume the throne and his rightful position as the flashy Don of Dons and Hip-Hop ambassador in the entertainment industry.

The album features cameos from many industry heavyweights such as The Wu-tang Clan, Jadakiss Styles P, and many others. OBFCL II also features blazing tracks from the who's who of extraordinary Hip-Hop producers such as the RZA, Eric Sermon, Dr. Dre, Scram Jones, Pete Rock, Marley Marl, Allah Mathematics and J Dilla, layered with Raekwon's melodic flows, thought provoking visual content and street orientated delivery, Only Built For Cuban Linx Part II (The Purple Tape) will produce the dish that true Hip-Hop heads have been salivating for many years.

Comment: sorry not even a good effort. cuban lynx was a genre defining classic. yes times have changed and so hasnt the style of production and lyrics but this album comes off as lazy to me. alot of the samples on here have been used before forever adding to the less than fresh ideology of this release. lets not forget that the formula that made the original so successful was the unique ( still to this day) production sound of the rza. understandably hard to live up to. this album IMO has issues competing with some of the great and even the OK releases in recent years. its unfortunate that such a great lyricist has been plagued with inconsistencies throughout his career but the man had a great start. and most emcees cant even claim 1 classic album. and to be truthful if it wasn't for that 1 classic and the WU release before it almost 90 percent of you would be singing a different tune. dont let nostalgia govern your point of view. I listened to this album as a fresh start with no prior albums in mind and this is how I came to that conclusion.

Comment: This album is gold and a stone cold classic. If it wasn't called cuban linx 2 you'd all love, but because it is you can't help but compare. This is where hip-hop is, if it sounded like 1995 you'd all bitch about that too. Just enjoy some decent WU for a change!!

Comment: STOP RATING ALBUMS MULTIPLE TIMES, FAGS! Solid album with solid production and lyrics. Though not as good as the original Linx, Rae still delivers. (I'd give it a 4.5/5 but a 4 star would be to low since people rate shit multiple times)

I gave it 3 stars simply because of where hip hop is at these days P.E.A.C.E.

Comment: i dont understand how anyone can rate this album under 4/5. the album was dope. not 1 single bad track on there. and people who say wu-tang is done? obviously not, because look at all the 5 star ratings. people who dislike this album just dont like wu-tang, and theres nothing wrong with that. just admit it. because wu-tang has released only like 4 weak projects... ever. and thats counting every one of their solo albums.

Comment: the wu tang formula is still good to me, but not as effective as it was when their first wave hit in the 90's. the changed the game, but never improved. there's only so many times I can listen to a grown man talk about selling coke. as a matter of fact, most of the emcees I listen to still talk about the same crap they did when I first heard them 15 to 20 years ago. what the hell is wrong with me. hip hop sux. I miss billy ocean.

As for Datn*ggabeon1 your hiphop knowledge is clearly limited at best as you continue to hide behind your PC and type absolute garbage!!! You've also used different aliases to support your arguments and the immature personal attacks on others in addition has revealed your young adolescent age!!! However many adolescents are true peeps in the game but all everyone sees here is a fake little boy!!! Please grow up son!!!

Comment: This is my last post on this album, after listening to it for a month here is my take...Lyrics are really hard but the overall production has me wanting more....Out of the 22 joints I'm only bumping like 6 joints...The next go round I need all RZA or a combo of 4th D, Bronze & True Master... The Dilla ason track was Ill but Dre and Rae don't sound good... I still like the album but it's no classic & it's not the best of the yr.... Much respect to Rae for his work but its a 3.5 all day.....

Comment: If these Radio play cats wore dry dog shit on medallion plates then they could convince nations of inspired bitch made nonsense! Fuck the influence... Seriously... I don't want to be able to "dance" to my HipHop and I damn sure don't want the song to BE the new dance inspired by the ass the track smokes. Just want to close my eyes and zone out. You won't hear MY shit in the club, we don't do that like that. The club is where pussies go to… get… pussy? I was likely stabbin’ like the Hillside Strangler when millennium club junkies were still dribbling mother’s milk into their shitty diapers … to each their own but study before you tell me that real HipHop bangs in the club. The only time is when it's live!!!! LIVE baby!!!!! Stage and all. Have you ever been to a SHOW? A real HipHop show? I don’t mean Souljah Boy and his back up dancers or his entourage. I mean a show… DJ… Mic… MC? Just that. Cutting… Scratching. My boy just moved back here being in Germany 12 years and I envy what their HipHop culture is. Graffiti is LIVE and still art there and unfortunately there is not even enough talent left in the flaccid little finger of our once great nation to claim SHIT!!!! You may just be a little too young because if you were a big-boy you would know it was never intended to be POP… EVER! I see you are coming around a bit though... come on in dude... the water is fine and real HipHop still boils and bubbles over.

Comment: first of all.. wu tang isnt mainstream..the first album was all underground..the next couple of albums werent mainstream the production was just wack..some of these muthafuckas dont know the meaning of mainstream when it comes to music..if you go mainstream it means your album crossed over to a broader audience and its gettin mention on radio and t.v..thats what it means..now some do cross over lyrically too on purpose to get that crowd (and I say fuck them all) but the ones who are reppin real hip hop just b/c the mucis crossed over deonst mean they did.. how the fuck is raekwon a mainstream rapper when he only put out a few album bangers and none didnt cross over..wu just needs to get the production tight on the albums and they can hold the crown again...the 4 elements of hip hop...( breakdancing, graffiti art, djing and mcing)

Comment: Dig it... BUT no one has made the claim that they are or were underground. Cats in Japan know who Aesop is. Cats in Europe know more about this precious culture than even me who is a well versed aficionado of all things HipHop. When mainstream (like Kid Cudi) had me ready to call the quit I embraced the underground. Meth... (hated ALL of his albums) yeah sure... Jeezey (whoever the hell that is). This dude was waiting to be the next gimmick. If it is in heavy rotation and has a video (which are for chicks mind you), the world appears to love it. Let's be mindful HipHop wanted an audience and got it but who are they? A bunch of teeny bopper club junkies. The club don’t bump unless the stage is set and the MIC is on. Oh and let us not forget the DJ. You know… HipHop. And you KNOW what I mean when I say mainstream... So so def style. Some cats take it to the extreme and some cats want a little cash but when I say mainstream please allow me to clarify that I mean blatantly selling right dee phuk on out... Quite simply from Jay to Z... see what I did there? Snoop SUX too! So does Dre. Raekwon waited like 5 years to perfect this. He did it... it simply can't be denied. $hit was without radio play intended. It is FOR us. Me and you. So you are either hungry or you’ll just have a salad and some water. This ONLY and I repeat ONLY has to do with what IS HipHop. I don’t give a $hit where Mia comes from. If she has ears and a mouth she is a person albeit minmally talented, a person nonetheless.

Staten Island? street? hood? no....where mia's from, staten island would seem like fort lauderdale on spring break. get this nerds..wu tang has never been underground...when they first dropped 36 chambers it went mainstream..they still are mainstream...if everyone knows u in the world? how are u underground? theyre like snoop.,,but .east coast gangster rap..basically its gangster rap..now lets connect the dots..if theyre not underground but mainstream. and theyre east coast gangster rap. then their counterparts..would be jeezey, weezey, and rick ross. no fucking difference.

Comment: I will admit RZA dropped the ball on Digi Snacks. MIA has swagger? What? A. What the PHUK is swagger? Is that some new millenium slang $hit? She sux! Rae doesn't have the fire lyrics????? WORRRRrrrrrd? Hmph... That's odd! The Dre production is mediocre but GOOD thing Chef is a SMITH or the $hit would have failed and the mainstream terrorists (i.e. Weezy and nem gay-rods... Cudi included) would have won... again! I LOVE the underground and give it all props but for something released on a major label this album sounds to me like exactly what were his intentions for it. Not a beat skipped. Good times!

Comment: Cudi SUX... Kanye SUX (twice… but only because he… well… SUX)... Mainstream HipHop SUX!!!! I don't even know who half these b!tch-made is be's (present tense has-been) are, let alone the nobody's they are about to become. What is with these rap faggots loving whatever is the new radio trash Top 40 club bangin' pecker pumpin' dookie shoot filter product to DEATH??? Snazzy hooks and weak production… It is all trash... Chef on the other hand... I have been waiting quite impatiently for this album. He delivered by not allowing himself to be made what THEY (you Kanye and Cudi fans) wanted. I am insanely impressed. I don't see it as arrogance; just who Chef has always been and who he continues to be. If you listen correctly, a story is told. You might not get it waiting for pop’s newest larger than life sensation to croon a beautifully melodic hook. Not out of Chef’s kitchen, Homie. Sorry ‘bout that… what you want is down the street a taste. By the way, The Blueprint 3 is the most unimpressive piece of dung I have ever had the displeasure of hearing yet divine pleasure of throwing away. Just a testament you can get cheap whores to blow dick all day. “But Jigga’s rich tho’ son”… Jigga is an industry skeezer and needs to get the phuk off the porch!!!! It is a good thing he came back too… as it turns out even HE realizes that the Black Album was nowhere near worthy of a retirement LP. Chop it up!

Comment: Generally an ok release although no where near the spectacular Cuban Linx debut, but then again no one expected this to surpass the debut. As for the production Jay Dee, Pete Rock, Marley Marl,Rza kept things tight as they have consistently done over the years but Dre's production notably track 'About me' (feat Busta)made me cringe in particular(Dre definately the weakest link on this CD as I also feel that he is over rated.) Ghost's presence has really blessed this joint with his charismatic sharp delivery with other guest Wu mc's deck and my fave Gza and off course Rae remains on point. May be this will grow on me after each listen and a vinyl pressing would be nice.

For me it's a 3.5-4.0, it's a bit long for me & some producers /production just didn't fit... This is an album that gets better the more you listen to it so my bad, but I did want it to be more headbanger & it's not...Lyrics are really sharp and he went for his on ea track..... Comment: I would like to take a moment to apologize to Raekwon for doubting him in all of my comments leading up to this post. I finally listened to this album for over a week and the verdict is in....OB4CBII IS THE BEST RELEASE IN HIP HOP IN THE PAST 4 YEARS!!!! All I can say is WOW! I am floored, shocked, in awe. Not only is the album that dope, but it officially brings NY back and the WU!!! YO!!! The beats...BANANNAS!!! The lyrics..INCREDIBLE! The concept...PERFECT!!! This album is what hip hop is all about. I was sooooo wrong about this album. Raekwon actually brings the HEAT on this album. His verses are classic!!! Ghostface does his thing (his verse on Gihad is my fave on the whole damn album). The beats on this album are specatcular! Dr.dre unfortunately is the weakest link here but fluck it, he's overrated to me anyway. RZA did his phukkin thing with the beats!!! I am SHOCKED!! Much respect to the Ason Jones track...one of the best tribute songs ever in hip hop and long over due!! This album is dope from start to finish. I could listen without hitting the fast forward. I am so glad Raekwon made me eat my words, Sept.4 2009 was a GREAT DAY for hip hop!

Comment: Dear rea, Why is it that everyone talks so much shit about the rza, but the two hottest tracks (new wu and black mozart) are produced by him. The 3rd hottes track is Fat lady sings( hot) but rae turned that track into a snippet. (damn!) This is definately not a classic more like a mixtape. and wha ever happened to the elton john sample track, and the chick track that reas made a video for, their not on this cd????

Comment: @ Ramesh (once again) Exposed? What the hell are you talking about? Only thing that has been exposed-and I say this again-is how much of Rae dickrider you are. You're essentially bitching because everyone isn't giving this ablum 5 stars. I had a similar argument with a guy over slaughterhouse, because he kept giving the album a 1 star over and over and over; and, like you, I told him how pathetic it was. Like anyone gives a rats ass about the user reviews on this site. Difference here is, he wasn't like acting like religious fanatic. You are. Hell, I bet you return to this one album, every other hour, to see if I responded. So amusing. I anticipate another, "you've bee exposed, you're descrediting Rae," reply. Break a leg n*gga, I must retain my sanity.

Comment: So, everyone has to love this album like you? God forbid anyone doesn't consider it a classic! God forbid that anyone doesn't feel it was completely worth the wait! And you claim Rap-reviews is biased against the Wu? Clearly you haven't read their reviews for many of Wu-Tang albums; since they gave respectable scores to albums that, IMHO, sucked. And, since it matters that much to you, I've read several reviews that have scored this album less than a 9. I'd really give this album a 4, but since you'll probably keep coming back and giving it a 5 again and again and again. I have to keep you in check.

Comment: bottomline the first 10 tracks is classic. then I think it a bit up & down as far as the beats go. but rae stay consistently sharp on all em. the pete rock joint is the standout. only problem with the album is I dont think kiss the ring was a fitting ending for the whole joint & the dre beats are lame. Let me put it this way. Stop expecting the classic formats to pop up again..be a realist, it aint gon' happen. too much business involved.. but look at this album like you do supreme clientele. It's a dope LP that revisits that legendary sound at a time we are thirsty for it more than ever. supreme clientele wasn't all RZa had Juju, 6 july etc. but still had that dope sound.. same way with this. the gems are the ones produced by PR, Marley Marl, Rza and Dilla. I think Rae's next line of work should be a EP with Pete Rock. His flow on PJ's was so smooth but sonnys missing even better got that dark ominous vibe to it

Comment: Can't touch the 1st CL, but damn near close. The vibe is there from the 1st one. The crime stories are portrayed crazy, Rae is a beast with this storytelling just like Nas is. Production is overall great. I'm diggin the RZA beats and Necro, that beat was tripping me out last night zoned out. Dre's beats were cool, but a little too simple and I'm a big fan of the Doc. This is getting 5 stars though, it was much anticipated and it did it's justice I must say. This is one of those breaths of fresh air for Hip Hop. My opinion; this smashes BP3 into pieces and then gets snorted up. Wu Tang Bitch!

I think the use of too many producers made this album jump around for me and I couldnt really tune in. the first album obviously had that gritty feel throughout and was an consistent album. however, this album is definitely worth the 10 bucks. Not quite sure why rae had dre beats. the beats were corny and felt like eminem was going jump on the track lol. either way its a good album, but not 5 stars

Comment: I agree totally with you, D-Train. To Ramesh, OK there are good tracks, but honestly, too many slow snoozy tracks to match a true Wu classic. "New Wu" and "Kiss the Ring" are the real shit we were waiting for !! "Gihad" is dope too, the Dre tracks are nice, but the rest is just plain OK to me. It is a quite nice Rae album, but I wouldn't have dared to call it "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Pt 2"... And to Killa J : I don't listen to the shit you mentioned. I listen to Killarmy, La Coka Nostra, Ill Bill, Slaine, Cymarshall Law, etc... TRUE hip hop.

Comment: CLASSIC!!! This album is bangin from start to finish. The production is flawless and the lyrics are the best on anything thats come out this year. If you don't like this you are probably a wack ass Atmosphere or Eyedea fan.

Comment: Just previewing until I get out of work to buy it. This shit is HOOOOTTTTT. I love the original, and didn't expect the same from this. Rae comes so hard. One question, are there bonus tracks on some import version or some shit? I'm trying to get all the songs possible when I buy this.

Comment: of course its not same as purple tape. its not all one producer, but this a dope album nonetheless. raekwon is on point my only problem with it was the end it dies out. last 3 songs didn't do much for me, didn't really like either of the dre songs and the beat on the song with dblock gets boring quick but other than that finally a album worth spending the loot on.

Comment: Carlos I agree with you on many point about Rae's callobo's..that was him at his best..Rae can drop hot 16's but his albums have been lackluster overall with the exception of his debut classic. Rae has very little to do with Ghostface's albums. He may be on a 16 bar here and there. Ghost BLAZED Rae's debut...he was all over that album. Rae never gets that shine with Ghost's albums. In fact, when Rae is 100% solo, he seems to flounder on tracks and those joints seem to pale in comparison with songs he does in callobo with other artists, mainly Ghost. I am hearing good things about CL II..if it is as good as I hear it is, I will be happy as I have not heard a great hip hop album in quite sometime. I am a hip hop fan and I CRAVE dope music. I will come back on the site and prop the album if it is hot or trash it if it is not. Right now, it appears that Rae will make me eat my words, and for that, I am happy!

Comment: I just previewed this album and it is hot! Of course, it is hard to capture the fire of the original classic 15 years later but I think that Rae has expanded on the original idea and this will be one of the later Wu member albums that is something you want to hear more than just a couple of times. Rea was smart to limit RZA to 5 tracks and I bet he had to prod him to keep production relevant. As a producer you have to balance your own personal style and what the fans want. I think RZA has difficulty with this and usually his work tends to go off the deep end like Digi Snacks and some other stuff of his that I've heard. Most of the beats on CL II are great, a couple are questionable. Lars you are being unreasonable with your criticism on Rea. It's established that Rea isn't your favorite and true he hasn't been as successful as Ghost. (whom by the way is also my favorite from the Wu)But you should admit that Rae's flow is nice especially on collabo's with Outkast, Cocoa Brothas, Mobb Deep , etc and mix tape tracks like Baggage Handler's, The Heist, and RAGU. Ghost is the best of the Wu but Rea is not too far behind and his voice is unique. Plus he is the only one who can occasionally outshine Ghost. Lars it seems you know Hip Hop well and while you claim that this Cuban linx 2 is Ghost's creation what would Iron Man, Supreme Clientelle, Bullet Proof Wallet's, Fishscale be without Rea to balance those albums out? GFK and Rae compliment each other well much better that with Trife the God. They are a true duo. Ghost album's certainly would have been different ablums without Rea. Notice that Ghost's worse album, the pretty Tony Album lacked Rea completely. I'm not saying you have to agree but be fair in your criticism and give the man a little more credit.

Heather B's album was tight to me...she is underrated..I miss her skillz....There are so many other albums people slept on...like '93 Til Infinity, CMW It's A Compton Thing, Brand Nubian In God We Trust, King Tee Act A Fool, Masters Of Ceremony Dynamite, King Sun XL, Just Ice Back To The Old School, T La Rock Lyrical King...I can go on for days about lost classics....I hope Rae does have a banger here, but I am not holding my breath...early reports say that this album will live up to the hype...this remains to be seen.....once I get the rapidshare advance of this album, I will make my final analysis here for the UGHH community....

Comment: I can name names in hip hop...I know more about hip hop than 95% precent of people alive today. I will put my hip hop knowledge up against anyone's. I know sample origins, whenever an artists bites another artist's rhymes from back in the day, I have well over 5,000 cds in my collection, about 4,000 of them are hip hop..of those 4,000...most of them are pre-2000...I have every single classic album pre-1996...I am here to inspire, my old school legends have been letting me down and the new kids out there are taking over. Have the old school artists lost their hunger? I seem to think so...if that's the case, then hang up the mic in the recording stuio and do shows of your golden stuff, leave the new records to the young hungry boys...

Comment: I'd rather listen to the Teryaki Boys than this crud. Kanye is better than Rae. I am not pissed off, I think if I complain about something rather than blindly embrace, it just may inspire someone to do something GREAT. Don't just warm up a frozen dinner in the microwave and tell me you cooked me a home cooked meal. Give me something fresh and new. I hope I say makes artists angry and get hungry to go in the studio and make something spectacular. The guys I am hardest on I have seen do great things in the past, but now I think they got fans in the bag and can put out any ole garbage and we will still spend our hard earned dollars on it. My answer to that is NO MORE! There are dozens of artists who are working harder and pumping out joints and our old school faves...It's time for these lazy old men to get a shot of viagra..LARS is that medicine!!

Comment: Lars, I thought you have found already your CD to dance to. Lil` Wayne gives you a whole CD full of dance music. I begin to wonder why you are actually visiting this website at all. As it seems you are a pissed off dude that has nothing else to say then negative things. Apart from speaking about Lil`Wayne of course. Rza is not washed up...I wonder if you have followed MC Hammers recent history. Mate I can probably name 1000s of people who have Lil` Wayne on their Ipod next to Mariah Carey(oh sorry she just released a track with Gucci Mane-must be HipHop then),Beoncye and Linkin Park. Does not speak for Lil` Wayne as a true Hip Hop act. Reakwon rocks for real, while Wayne rocks the pop charts.

Comment: If GFK held Rae's hand through the delevopment, it will be a classic...otherwise it will just be another radom Wu release. Rae is NOTHING without Ghost. Get off my nutsack "P"...b/k/a "penis".

Comment: Okay, the cover really is ridiculous... coming from someone who came up on this music and wishes Rae nothing but success with OB4CL2. It just seems like he is too afraid to step out of the box again like he originally did when the first album was made - what made it such a landmark album in the first place. All he's doing is trying to revive the feel of the first effort... which is impossible. This album cover is to the first one as Criminology II is to Criminology. I believe that Rae is a better emcee now than he was then, but I wish he just took to his poetic side one more time with the skill and knowledge he has now... "Rae is a very intelligent man." Truth be told the OB4CL legacy is to many of you the embodiment of what Wu stood for... creativity. That's why the second album should, after over 15 years, be NOTHING BUT THAT.

Comment: It keeps getting pushed back cuz Rae is full of s***. He keeps plugging this album just to get people talking about Rae so he can do shows and have people show up. Otherwise, this album is going to keep getting pushed back. Rae is in the twilight of his career and he knows it (1995 is soooo 14 years ago!). No one is going to go see this dude in the near future.

Comment: Raekwon is a fraud...GFK was the key to the Purple Tape..with out Ghost that album would have been as wack as Rae's follow-up albums! Rae needs to find new employment...go to school, learn a trade, hip hop has past you by son! No one is checking for a wu tang has been (ask Meth!)...Rae blew his load long ago on a few 16 bars here and there..now he is washed up like Canibus. Ghost picked those beats for Purple Tape and had the concepts...Rae aka "BUCKY", as he is known on Staten Island, is the ultimate bird!
