Product Details

This winter, RJD2 returns with the highly anticipated 4th solo LP "The Colossus". Marking the 10th year of his career, the album showcases the myriad of styles RJD2 has spanned as a maverick, respected producer for himself and others. Collaborating with emcees, vocalists, and various instrumentalists, it displays an urgency and sophistication rarely seen. Weaving together his trademark rock solid drums, soulful vibes and horns, samples, and anything else available, the album is a kaleidoscopic look both forward and back. Part Impressions, part Daft Punk, part Thin Lizzy. He is helped along by vocalists Kenna (Star Trak), Phonte Coleman (Little Brother), Aaron Livingston, (The Roots' 'Guns Are Drawn'), as well as several underground emcees and horns, woodwind, and strings. A sound to behold.

Comment: Good stuff. Rjd2 is arguably the illest live- dj right now. I'm really into how he switches style with this one. Just when you suckers got comfortable he brings on a new style. This is good, artist ned to constantly evolve with time, if not, they stay stuck in the past. So most of the songs are really nice, some are quite weak(mostly on the vocal-song part of the album). Not his best but a nice one all-in-all.

Comment: RJ's last two cd's have been really disappointing for me. I used to love his style, but now he makes stuff that isn't for me. The best track he's made recently was "The Sleepaway" on the EP preceding this album. THE EP! He put the best song on the EP! (and I know he agrees it was the best because it was track #1)

Comment: I give it 3.5 half the album is singing which I don't like, but the other half is some dope intrumentals by Rjd2. That is what makes the album. "Let their be horns" is a rjd2 classic. Can't get with the tracks that have singing just not into that. peace
